Media Media Bias

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Not serious media but it made me laugh looking at paddy power's twitter feed on Sunday and they were still trying to make jokes about spurs and zero about west ham going down. Doesn't really work when we end up as the winners in the situation

It's an account with 16 followers ffs, how is that 'the media'
Yeah, I know not technically... But didn't wanna trawl through the "Let's laugh at Gooners" thread, as it's not really about 'football rivalry, friendly or otherwise'

...this taps into a much deeper, darker psyche that plenty more than '16' followers have latched onto, and that a lot of the media have watched develop, and done nothing about to call it out...

The entire NATION wanted us down
... Don't tell me fir one minute that's ALL just football related ... Cos it really isn't!

Not getting into the the political thing but if you think that the nation wanted us down was to do with antisemitism I think you're massively off base. Our fans just have to accept that we're a big club and people want to see big clubs fall, would be no different to out top 6 rivals if they were in that position.

I think it has a large influence on things not the sole reason. Why do you think What do you think of Tottenham chant is so popular at festivals by the same people who were chanting for Jeremy Corbyn.

Because it's banter, people sing about Tottenham at the darts, WWE, boxing...we have become a bit of a meme club thanks to social media and the fact that we are very easy to pile on because we've been a complete ahit show.

How in the hell is that even linked to antisemitism??

I've talked to bantering mates a few times this season about why they mock us etc, and the reason was the same from all of them - we're spoken about as being a big club, one of the big 6 etc, but our trophy history, particularly this century, is woeful compared to the other five, making it comical for them that we are even mentioned in the same breath as the other five who have won plenty. And of course they are right about that bit of it. I did point out that it's often the media rather than us who call us a big club then mock us for not achieving the success of one, and they did see that point, but also said there are also plenty of Spurs fans who think you're bigger than you are, hence we will all laugh when you struggle or do 'Spurslike' (I'm not using that cringy word) things etc. Which all makes perfect sense to me, and explains why the mockery is so widespread.

I've never considered it to be anything whatsoever to do with anti-Semitism other than from a very tiny few, and I've seen nothing this season to change that. For me, people blaming it on anti-Semitism are deliberately looking for it to be that.

Edit: I appreciate I'm talking here about fans and the general public, not just the media, but that seemed to be reflective of some of the more recent posts on here. I've honestly got no idea why the media hates us so much (and they definitely do), but again I think anyone blaming anti-Semitism is making quite a leap...

Why is it Tottenham? The team that was once the best team in the country for over a Decade until recently was as shit as us and they got next to none of this "banter". Look at the abuse and questions that Kane the greatest player of a generation got until he moved to Bayern. Like a few titles that they always win makes a difference.

Thst is because they are your mates and their is truth in what they say but there is an undercurrent from some people which does have anti semetic undertones even when we were good we got abuse.

I don't deny there's always going to be an undercurrent in some people, I said that myself above, but that's always the case, just as if you go into any building containing 100 people at least one will be incredibly racist, at least one will be incredibly sexist, etc - but that doesn't mean it's what drives the general dislike of / agenda against us.

Agreed, if you go looking for it you will find it, case in point 1882 finishing an account with 16 followers which confirmed his bias about people being antisemitic.

We're a pure banter club in the eyes of the media and rival fans and TBH who can blame them, this club does fuck all to protect it's own image and continues to embarrass itself and our fans.

I don't see why our own fans take it so personal, people were desperate for us to go down which tells you how big this club is and if we get our house in order could potentially be a big threat. No-one wants to admit that Tottenham with De Zerbi is a potentially dangerous force, hence why there was a complete meltdown when Villa fielded a weakened team when we played them.

We're a big club, the media and our own fucking football club have gaslit this fanbase into thinking we're small time.

Not saying it's everyone...
Same as not everyone who votes Reform are racist.... But PLENTY OF RACISTS vote Reform...

Do you think people who have an agenda against a certain minority care what or where to vent it?
Why else did the National Front turn up at Chelsea matches in the 70s and '80s? It wasn't to cheer on Peter Osgood... They found a breeding ground for hatred and exploited it!

Tottenham are, like it or not, seen as a Jewish club
..
I know people who know so little about Football, they've never heard of Ronaldo or Messi ... and yet still think that Spurs are seemingly as a Jewish club...

It goes deeper than football.

I don't for one minute think that everyone wanting Spurs to go down is anti semitic,

But I betcha that PLENTY of anti Semites have found a new forum and traction for venting their hatred, by jumping on the Spurs NEED to be relegated bandwagon!

Yep, nothing much there for me to disagree with. But it doesn't disagree with my earlier post either - yes there are anti-Semitic people, always have been and always will be, and yes of course they will jump on the bandwagon, but that is NOT the main reason people in general ("the nation" I believe you said earlier) seem to have thoroughly enjoyed our struggle this season. That's all I was saying, and it seems you agree with that, so we're all good. 🙂
