que?

We competed in Europe nonstop for 20-odd years?

That doesn't pencil out.

We built the stadium to sell tickets and beers and prawn sandwiches twice a week.
to me it seems we made the necessary outlays to compete at the top of the league and get into europe because we needed that money to balance the books of the stadium build and now that it's built we don't appear to be spending at that level anymore. if you apply the same ratio of spending/earnings we made in the last years of the old stadium to our new revenues i think we'd have higher wages and better players. further, the league is much more competitive now and we can't just swing our bigger dick around anymore and finish top 5. it requires more investment than we seem to be willing to make. this is just my gut and i haven't looked at one balance sheet or financial statement.

I disagree - we are spending plenty - not in ratio to our revenue but we have spent a lot - its been just spent terribly -

To the extent that's true, the profit-maximizing move for ENIC is to sell the club.

Profits will be nonexistent, risk of relegation will be constant, and the selling value of the club will decline every year we're out of Europe.

Got to be honest, regardless of whether or not Vinai is a weasel and partly responsible (at least for this season’s car crash) , the club really is calling itself out.

They have absolutely nowhere to hide if things don’t improve.

We've unequivocally spent more money since moving into the stadium.

Never heard that from the club and board before. Oh, wait....

see this post from the other thread

Again, the club is trying to give transparency to what is happening and has happened. Isnt that what all of you wanted???

Let's give this new regime a chance. This rebuild on and off the field will be painful but the club has to go through it.

Now we have the right manager, the club is willing to break the wage structure and we are attempting to sign more experienced and proven players. Changes are happening!!

The effort to paint this as Year 1 of new ownership and a new regime is strictly to divide and weaken the organization and coherence of fan discontent.

If I may make a messaging suggestion

"ENIC: 26 years of excuses and counting"

we're spending more but not enough and not effectively enough. i think we haven't spent on competent people off the pitch and given them the assurances we'd spend like a big club on the pitch. it's not as simple as net transfer. we're not running the club like other big clubs who regularly play in the champions league and given the outcomes of the last two seasons and the way we've reacted so far, it doesn't appear like anything is changing either.

lets see over the next couple of months - we shall see - i am not convinced but we can barely do any worse

I’ve never known the club to make a statement like ‘decisions were not made with a view to maximising points on the pitch’.

He’s a grubby little PR man but he’s backing ENIC into a corner.

You’re more than likely correct and this is just another in a long line of drivel excuses and yes, maybe they won’t improve. However, if that comes to pass, there will be absolutely zero discussion about the manager and players. It will fall squarely on ENIC. Moreover, how the club is discussed in the media has changed. The media, as much as the fans, will demand change.

It's PR people scraping fan sentiment and telling them what they want to hear, feeling safe that they can finally blame someone else (Levy)

True - not true - they are very comfortable saying these things right now because they can

It's great to see isn't it.

As refreshing as the cold shower I'm about to take to kick off this stifling heat.

After so many years of grifting and lying and conning the fans....some transparency and acknowledgement of our failings being laid out in the open .

They've put the biggest target imaginable on their backs instead of cowering beneath 'we can't compete with the big boys' bullshit mentality fostered so blatantly under the previous charlatan milking our club.

I'm fairly sure I remember something about Levy saying they'd not been as great on the pitch, possibly after Conte/Jose got sacked, but I could be misremembering.

Either way, it's all very familiar, and until they actually show this huge ambition they speak of, I have my reservations.

Really... where have you been? This is the same recycled shite they roll out every year we underperformed which baring a handful of seasons is pretty much every season under this bunch of crooks. They didn't hide then and they won't hide next summer. They'll sack a few suits, rewind the tape and press play.

I don’t remember them ever saying that they had actively been making decisions where football was not prioritised.

You’re likely right. Maybe this is the next stage in their glorious gaslighting.

But if ENIC have not changed, the wider perception, especially in the media, has. Levy allowed for an element of smoke and mirrors. That’s gone.

It's the approach that needs to change as much as anything. Money has been spent, quite alot infact but we have waisted it through poor decision making. Too many seasons have I seen and heard battle crys from the club that they want to mix it with the best clubs but yet they send there managers into battle armed with a toothpick and wonder why it backfires.

Ultimately with the statement they put out they have well and truly backed themselves into a corner. I do feel the Lewis kids actually have the intent to achieve what this club deserves but whether they have the 'know how' is another matter.

I think they will put up the money, big money but if we come away from the transfer window with 2× odoberts, a tel and a takai then we may aswel pack up and go home.
