I can't deny he's definitely guilty of what you're describing: the beat a man then cut back and beat him again thing is annoying. But he also retains possession in situations where 90% of wide players would lose it and offers us something quite unique as an option out wide.

Ultimately I think it comes down to coaching and how we set up. If he's just one of those guys that is uncoachable, never improves his weaknesses and keeps doing the same shit then yeah, he's gonna be a squad player at best. But I'm curious to see how he looks under De Zerbi and think we've got far bigger problems in attack than him right now.
I never understood why he received the ball so tight to the touchline. It made it pretty easy for defenders to turn him inside or force a backwards pass. When he came a few yards away from the touchline it gave him the option of spinning in behind and made him much more dangerous. Why didn't Frank just tell him to do that?

I feel there are a couple of exceptions but most of the squad should scale up under a better coach.

Would expect a few of them to leave as well.

Most of the squad seemed utterly disinterested in playing for us until the last minute. They shouldn’t be getting the chance to scale up. No matter who the manager was last season, they are better than they played. Showed the lack of class in almost every one of them.

If you want to upgrade on Kudus, you're now saying you want a new RW AND LW- because we absolutely need at least one more quality winger.

We definitely need a leftie, no doubt there. And yes, I’d happily upgrade Kudus too, but not as a priority. Other fires to put out that are more urgent. But what I also wouldn’t do is buy a backup for Kudus.

We’re always buying backups, squad players, youngsters. When you are challenging for the title, you can buy a Norgaard for depth. But when you are trying to get there, it should be first teamers only.

We don’t have a single player that firmly deserves to be in our first team. They’ve all let us down or aren’t good enough. Fuck buying back up for them. Get them on the bench or out of the club.

There will be more howls from the people who hate all our own young players, but a few minutes for Tynan Thompson next season couldn't hurt.

Why, Scott is an excellent footballer and Hackney is an actual passer who is wanted by multiple premier league clubs and fits the profile of the type of player we lack. We ain’t getting Anderson or anyone of that ability or readiness.
We need game changers and neither are that.

If we get a game changer and one of them then fine but there will be no significant improvement if we bring in those two imo.

I can’t see Wharton or Anderson coming though and any foreign player baring the unobtainable like Vitinha will always be a risk bringing into the league just as much as Hackney coming up a league.
It's a bit of a catch-22. The proven 'game changers' are either aiming higher than us or already at top clubs, while the potential game changers from other leagues are unproven and, thus, a risk, or unappealing to fans.

6 months ago if we'd signed Rayan a lot of Spurs fans would've (quite fairly) said "wtf are we doing signing another unproven 19 year old who doesn't know the league ffs". And yet now he looks like, potentially, a real rising star for Bournemouth.

We've either got to get into a position where we can actually attract established guys like Semenyo to come to us, or we need to get better at scouting and bring in the right younger/foreign players before the explode.

Like, maybe in 2 years, with the right coaching, Hackney is a game changer? Who knows?

Well we can't sell most of the squad unfortunately and in any case they were disinterested because of the shit coaches we hired and the club being an utter shitshow, thankfully now we have a proper coach now that the players respect.

I don’t think Scott is much of a risk, he is already just below the Anderson/Wharton level, to me given what you have said this would be almost a no brainer. Hackney is a risk but offers a passing profile similar to a top draw deep playmaker like Wharton, with Hackney it will be the physical adaption to the prem that will make or break him.

If we don’t go for either I see Scott at Chelsea and Hackney at Everton. If they do well it will be too late.

Yeah he's closer to the Semenyo example albeit not quite as established or proven. The issue with him would be more attracting him over other clubs (although sounds like Everton are ahead of us in the race for Hackney too).

One poor season when he barely got played....

Doku improved... especially after Pep swiched how his team was playing.. after a terrible season last, and so that is your logic Savio wont improve....

Also his goal contribution in his first season were up there with the best

Hoping the lad proves you wrong on this one.

Doku started out poorly and improved whilst Savinho went backwards...what is there to hold onto here? I'd understand if he had a poor first season and inproved in his 2nd but he's actually gotten worse through his goal contributions and his general play.

Yeah but people keep saying this, are we going to be able to attract those 'gamechangers' you want to the club? Unless you have someone in mind?

Wharton came from Blackburn in the Championship. IIRC, the same concerns were expressed about whether he could step up by some.

There's no way for us to determine whether he will step up in the PL or not, other than to give him game time and see whether he does or not, but he's been as influential for Boro as Wharton was for Blackburn, so there's good reason to think he will, though by no means reason to be ultra confident.

Yeah they should just go in at top whack before the window has even opened, because that's great negotiation and a great use of our limited budget.

Didn't we spend years ripping the piss out of Man U for doing that sort of thing, thies overpaying for players?

Fucking hell, people just find anything to complain about, not matter how ridiculous.
I kinda agree with your points in this post, however, if now isn't the time to splash the (plentiful) cash we have, when is?

We need to get good players in and rebuild and after the relegation threat of this season (and, to a degree, last season); therefore, surely we shouldn't be messing about with targets we want.

However, I will concede that a lot of our scouting leaves a lot to be desired.
