**but don't pay too much.

You build a squad down the spine, so I’m excited to see us seemingly so focused on that with Senesi and potentially Van Hecke.

Most importantly glad to see the club actually bringing in players that fit the manager‘s style of play, versus just buying whoever will come.

Essential to sort out the midfield next, a deep lying playmaker would make things look so much better.

I mean, pretty fucking stupid if our expectations are anything less than £85m, clearly his reputation and value are at an absolute high right now

Obviously he is highly talented, but still raw and inexperienced

Each loan he has had he has stepped up

I quite like the idea of bringing him in with the intent to play him, but honestly it is something of a gamble

And in a year where we only have guaranteed 40 games, where most of the season will be 1 a week, he may well stillbe left on the bench a lot

In that context, Id rather see him play every week at a club with a decent level

And then next year when were in europe (CL!) he can come into the squad, that bit more ready and experienced, with real opportunity to stake a claim

So while I like the idea of bringing him in, I can see a loan makes sense also
Is it really a gamble though if we are brining Van Heck?

I would agree if we were to make him a starter, but if it is as back up, and bringing him on when things are comfortable, cup games etc..

It's mof really a risk, but it is a massive teaser, and valuable experience of the best league in the world.

We might as well sell him if we loan him out again, as he will want to be off anyway.

Pointless if he's got no attackers to pass to.

BRING ME A NEW FRONTLINE

No, he isnt. That's just bias talking.

Rice was 24 when he went to that lot.

Guimares ain't worth anything more than just above the average price for a very good midfielder of comparable age, whatever thst may be.

And at 28, I hope we would go nowhere near.

Bruno is 100% better than Rice right now

Fair enough Rice was 24 so had extra value for resale but if you are comparing the football ability of both players right now, Bruno is just better.

Rice takes better set pieces, other than that, it’s not even close

Between Senesi, Van Hecke and VDV our aerial ability is poor, we'd likely to get done on set pieces and corners, will be our weak spot next season I think!
Look at you dooming 🤣

Tbf you’re spot on here. I’m nowhere near as happy about Van Hecke as others. He gave us two extremely cheap goals this season, we know he has a bit of an error in him, and is liable to get bullied especially in the box. Romero for his faults is at least good in the air. We all know how inconsistent Micky’s box defending is too, that feels like a recipe for disaster in the PL when protecting a one goal lead facing an onslaught of pressure. Can you imagine us putting up a wall and escaping danger to secure an away result with those two at CB? It feels like a team lacking in physicality and aerial strength.

Its a gamble in the sense that I think we would end up stunting his development

Van Hecke, Robertson, Senesi - screams to me very much of "we arent fucking about this year"

With one game a week I think itll be as strong a team as possible every game

I think the chances of blooding a youngster in defence in those circumstances are slim

The rumours recently have all been uskovic signs a new deal and goes on loan, and I think thats a good solution

He gets a nice pay bump to reward his progress, he gets another year of regular football, we get a better player next season when we have need of a bigger squad for the european games etc...

That's fine, I didn't say its not a good start. I think we are conflating arguments. Please see my latest post for clarity on what I mean.

Primarily I'm coming from a position of we've made this sort of signing before (madison) which was excellent and smart. But its all meaningless and no different from Daniel levys tenure if it stops there. The bar needs to be higher across the board.

Okay, but so to understand your point better - if we do plug all the holes in the side with players that are of quality, fit into RDZ preferences AND happen to be free agents or players in their last contract years - would you be happy with that window?

And say our overall transfer outlay would be 150 mil and net spend maybe 60-70 mil?

Yeah I would absolutely LOVE either Guimares or Tonali.
Both would would be first picks in our midfield without any doubt and improve that area massively.

But getting either of them from Toon is really difficult. Both have 2 years contract left at this point.
Even more difficult after they sold Gordon to Barcelona for 80 mil...

We'd have to pay ~85-100 mil for either of them by the looks of it.

You say that but the 2yr mark is where clubs will try and renew contracts..... If the players refuse then the door to a sale opens.

Kinsky deserves to be no.1 on what he produced at the end of the season, not just the saves but his football ability, I never panicked unlike when Vic was trying to kick/pass, but I feel he needs real competition for his spot(Austin is not that) and I feel you will see even more improvement in his all round goalkeeping.
Has that ever worked with goalkeepers though?

It caused all sorts of issues for the scum with Ramsdale and Raya.

Personally I think Kinsky has done enough to be number 1 and you bring in a solid experienced number 2.
