Look at you dooming 🤣

Tbf you’re spot on here. I’m nowhere near as happy about Van Hecke as others. He gave us two extremely cheap goals this season, we know he has a bit of an error in him, and is liable to get bullied especially in the box. Romero for his faults is at least good in the air. We all know how inconsistent Micky’s box defending is too, that feels like a recipe for disaster in the PL when protecting a one goal lead facing an onslaught of pressure. Can you imagine us putting up a wall and escaping danger to secure an away result with those two at CB? It feels like a team lacking in physicality and aerial strength.

I don't have a problem with it TBH, we're still building and not the product under De Zerbi, I guess between Danso and particularly Vuskovic we will add height to the team.

I think where we want to be next season (pushing top 4) our CB options are as good as we can get, I'm happy with them.

Bruno is 100% better than Rice right now

Fair enough Rice was 24 so had extra value for resale but if you are comparing the football ability of both players right now, Bruno is just better.

Rice takes better set pieces, other than that, it’s not even close

I disagree but I will seek clarity on why Rice was chosen in the Opta and Fans PL team of the season over Guimares, and advise both that they have got it wrong.

Maybe? I mean, we dont actually know, do we?

I know it was years ago, but I remember Edgar Davids - his juicy signing on bonus was actually paid out over the course of the contract - not up front

Quite possible that sort of practice is still the case
It's a negotiation (I actually have a friend who works at CAA Base). Club obviously tries to push it down the road, as with transfers. tbh, we're splitting hairs vs the main point, which is that "free" transfers are absolutely not free.

He actually had the most errors leading to goals in the PL last season so should fit right in!

You build a squad down the spine, so I’m excited to see us seemingly so focused on that with Senesi and potentially Van Hecke.

Most importantly glad to see the club actually bringing in players that fit the manager‘s style of play, versus just buying whoever will come.

Essential to sort out the midfield next, a deep lying playmaker would make things look so much better.
It is refreshing to see.

Is anyone else concerned that we won't get a buyer for Romero?

if were looking for 50M + there's what, 3/4 teams that can afford that - Real, Barca, Atletico, Bayern..

I think Atletico are our only hope?

People won't like this, but I wonder if De Zerbi is thinking about playing a back 3, or at least making sure we have a squad that can play a back 3. He played some variant of a back 3 about half the time in Marseille so clearly likes it as an option and our window so far points in that direction. Looking to sign Senesi AND Van Hecke when we already have Vuskovic, VdV + Danso in a season with no Europe. Apparently extending Davies' contract (solid LCB cover in a back 3). These moves make far more sense if a back 3 is in his thoughts, plus Vusko predominantly played in a 3 for Hamburg...

You don’t have to play a back 3 as a counter attack style. Pochettino played it a few times and we played some amazing football. It only work as a ball domination formation with ball playing CB’s as they need to become CM’s almost. Mostly back 3 is played as a counter attacking system but that isn’t really De Zerbi’s philosophy.
