Transfers Summer 2026 Transfer Thread

van Hecke situation gives me so mixed feelings.

I mean - yea, 50 mil for a player that has 1 year left on his contract is surely a steep price to ask.
BUT at the same time when RDZ wants him and know his level... AND we are sure that he fits exactly the profile we need... then I lean towards the option to just bite the bullet, pay the money and get it over the line.

We will be getting more than the 50 for Romero and Dragusin combined I would assume.

And if he performs on top level, than shipping out 50 mil to have a 25 yo Duch power-duo for next 6 seasons might not be anything too absurd. Demand also plays a big role in the final transfer sum. Meaning if he has 1 year left but there is someone who is willing to pay more, then in the end the price goes up.

But anyway - I see very strong arguments to both sides here.
Just hope that we base our final decision on the fact how good of a fit do we find him being.

I have a few thoughts on it

£50m for a top player, with a year on their deal, its mental - but its also the market these days

But, also, van Hecke specifically - is a cheat code to de Zerbi-ball, how much is that worth?

And then yes, Romero + Dragusin out, can Hecke in - not bad business IMO

I don’t really rate Tel but I’d agree. Delap was good for Ipswich but a bit of a battering ram for a very limited side might be his ceiling. His technique is too clunky to do it for a top side.

He’s been an absolute fucking mess at Chelsea, granted they’re a mess and I think he’s better than he’s shown, but he can barely control a football.

Right!

Delap is a donkey.

Tel is a galaxy brain with very good technical ability.

Much easier to fix the galaxy brain in this context. Donkey’s can do a Chris Wood later in their career but it’s a loooong road

More than obvious why he wants to bring in Van Hecke alongside Senesi, he wants us playing out from the back consistently

Building up is the weakest part of Vuskovic's game, I don't understand why people are adamant he's the finished article now, physically he's ready but technically there are still holes.

People are crying for no reason.

I originally didn't like the idea of loaning him out again but the more I think about it it makes complete sense. I guess the idea is he can come back next year a more polished player and I'd imagine we'd have European football as well so many more mins to go around.

Alderweireld was a very good long passer, and Dier was on his day but not consistently, however it does mean a deep lying playmaker in the DMF position isn't required and therefore Palhinha's passing limitations aren't such an issue with those sort of CBs on the field.

We really have a fetish for centre backs these days. I’m all for us signing top young talent, but surely van Hecke, Senesi, VDV & Danso with Vuskovic waiting in the wings is enough for the foreseeable future no? And we haven’t even sold Romero or Dagusin yet. I wonder if De Zerbi also wants Danso sold as well as those two, maybe not good enough on the ball for his liking.

We really need to be spending big up top instead. We’ll have a Fortnum & Mason defence with a Poundland front line.

Let's hope we're not inspired by them up the road and intend to play 4 cb's

van Hecke is to De Zerbi what Bastoni was to Conte. Both defenders the manager really wants, that fit his system to a tee and would improve the backline massively , but rather than pay the price and give the manager what he wants, he’ll get the bargain bin alternative. Be interesting to see who this season’s Lenglet is.

It’s just fucking Groundhog Day with these owners, it’ll never change, they promise new managers the earth to get them to come in, then fuck them over once the manager’s held up their end of the bargain.

Should we have a sweepie on what month De Zerbi will crack and call out the board In the media?

To Dare is too dear.

While I do absolutely understand where you are coming from... I would still argue that current situation is bit different.

What I mean is - by reputable sources we have already added Senesi to this department. Who has very much similar attributes and strengths.

Also as a bit of a sidenote- there has been bit of a shift. After missing out on MGW and Eze last summer (neither of whom we actually cheaped out on - one was blocked by chairman and other himself decided to go to Arsescum in last moment), we did not get in a 10 or 20 million alternative. We did pay roughly the same that Eze was reported to move and for more than MGW reported transfer would have cost. The transfer has not worked out so far, I guess we all can agree, but that was not a "cheap alternative / Lenglet" move either.

That’s the CB Brighton are rumoured to be after…

3D Chess pressure…?

Senesi is a LCB, Van Hecke is a RCB, it's not comparable.

Which other club and manager who won the league and got the CL final has a fetish for CBs? It’s just the way of modern football. If you can negate the other team’s pressing you can control the game.

True but I can't see De Zerbi going Arteta-style and playing a back 4 of CBs, and Pep moved away from that approach in recent years. Maybe we'll occasionally play VdV at LB but that's about it.

Woolwich are a bit of an exception - many top club sides in recent years have actually had surprisingly little depth at CB leading to DMs covering.

My suspicion is we RDZ wants to have the option of playing a back 3 in his locker - something he did regularly at Marseille. Would explain the sheer quality of the depth we seem to be looking to accumulate at CB + Davies apparently re-signing.

Yeah - I actually don't think we've got anything lined up for Romero at all and seems like the club are actually putting football first for once. The way things are going I can see us taking a bit of a loss on him, or doing some line of loan-with-an-obligation deal with one of the Italian clubs or Atletico.

We did spend fairly big early/mid summer when we sold big players previously (Bale, Kane) but I think Levy was willing to do that when he knew for sure he had a big club coming in and it was a matter of when rather than if he'd get his payday. Don't get the impression that's the case with Romero. AFAIK there have been zero concrete links from other clubs yet.

I think its been widely rumoured we agreed to let him go as far back as January, so Id be surprised if there were no deals in the offing

He'll go to the WC and hopefully drive up his value/interest as well

But yes, actually spending before we sell is a nice change for us

I was just adding my 2 bob's worth. I've been banging on about getting a deep lying playmaker but these CBs would negate the need for such a player. It makes Palhinha's limitations more plausible, and balances the team's attributes.

We are better off just getting a passer and more technical player, not only for passing ability but to receive the ball on the half turn when the ball is pinged into him, makes a massive difference.

Ali Gold said that the club are looking at a passer as well, we lack so much in that area.
