I dont really see the point in criticising Townsend at this point in time. We need English players in the squad so why not have a young, homegrown, enthusiastic promising player that tries hard, clearly wants to achieve and improve and actually supports the fucking team he plays for. Everyone criticises Adebayor for being a mercenary who doesnt care or try and blah blah, yet criticise Townsend for being the exact opposite.

Again, I dont see people criticising his heart and work rate. They are admirable.
But that doesnt mean he is a good player...just like Holtby, and to some people, Dawson and Parker too..
I think everyone sees the potential, but Lennon showed far more at a younger age, and never lived up to it. I dont see Townsend as the type of player that can be coached into a top 4 winger Im afraid.

Yeah but please tell me what can be gained from calling him out as a shit player? No one is saying he's going to set the world alight but of the 7 billion people in the world, he must be a better footballer than 99% of those people, to be a professional player in the premiership?
Which is why i find it a bit nonsensical when he is being criticised by people standing behind me that know less about football than Townsend probably did when he was 12.

From what i saw last night, Townsend did his job. When we had the ball he kicked it towards their goal, and when they had the ball he kicked it away from ours. Can't ask much more of him than that? Townsend had a better game last night than Aaron Lennon has had in about 3 years as well. Id pick Townsend over Lennon all day as well. Lennon has plateaued, with a better attitude he could have been a better player, Townsend has the right attitude.
Yup, he does two things, and neither of them are helpful to the team. I like his workrate, I like his attitude and sense of humour, but he's not playing with the necessary intelligence.
I agree with you to some extent, but last night there weren't many other options than trying from distance, so there I think his attempts were justified. The problem is he does it in every game, whether or not the opposition parks the bus.
I think there were options. I don't think Andros was capable of seeing or executing them.

People think I'm being harsh on him, but the fact is, zero assists from an attacking winger and zero prem goals from any of his shots at goal (which were many) could be argued is the difference between CL and Europa. Because the flip side is he does us no favors off the ball for the defensive players behind and next to him.
He's entertaining. But his decision making and actual ability drags us down and keeps talent off the bench or out of the starting 11.
Same can be said for Lennon. If we want REAL change, it's time to drop them from the prem bench, and if we want our younger players like Bentlaeb, Kane, Mason, Holtby, Yedlin etc to push on in the future they need to be dropped from the early cup stage starting 11's too.
Having Townsend derping around off the ball will destroy Yedlin, Stam etc who will get their shit pushed in from lack of help.
His impact isn't just missing shots, terrible crossing or through balls: The midfielders, strikers and defenders around them have droughts, confidence crisis and can run themselves into the ground until they puke with the Townsends partnering them.

The worst part about Townsend is that he is so good creating space for himself, yet his end product is such shit. He literally needs a brain reset. He shoots when he can play a through ball. He passes when he has a shot.

The point is that in football, fans have opinions about players and what they feel is best for their team.....just like your opinion on Lennon. Maybe someone who rates Lennon highly will come in here and call you "fucking stupid" and start crying too?
