Understanding his reaction is one thing but it does not excuse what he did, it was a red card offence, plain and simple.

It wasn't even a reckless tackle. Why the idiot media just blindly nod and agree when Maureen complains about something is despicable. He's passed the ball, his foot has naturally taken its course and Matic meanwhile stuck his leg into its path. Putting a super-slo-mo of the moment of impact makes it look horrible, but if you actually watch the thing as a whole you can see that the guy has made a completely natural side-foot kicking action, actually kicked the ball, and continued on a natural path. I defy anyone to make a sidefoot pass and NOT have your foot follow through exactly like that.

In case anyone hasn't seen it. This gif seems to have been made to show the impact, which I agree looks horrible at the point they've slowed it down, but you can see that he's only making a sidefoot pass. Matic steams in from the side and puts his leg where the natural path finishes. It's actually Matic trying to make the tackle, Barnes is in control of the ball.

People look at slo-mo replays and can't seem to disassociate them having seen it slowed down and real-time reactions. The time from playing the ball to landing on Matic's shin was a split second, no chance of "pulling out" or anything like it.

I don't understand the furor with the Matic thing. Barnes isn't even making a challenge, his leg is extended from making a pass and Matic runs into it. Obviously it could have been nasty and I'm glad Matic walked away unscathed as you never want to see that but Barnes wasn't making a dirty play. It was just unlucky that it collided like that. Purely accidental in my eyes and luckily no one is hurt.

Dyche did an excellent rebuttal to Mourinho's claims where he actually is very down the middle about everything, he actually agrees one of the pens should have been given. But he brings up the point that allthe Chelsea players don't even react. They are stunned by Matic and try to hold him back. Matic deserves to have his red card upheld.

Wait, has Matic actually had his suspension reduced from 3 to 2 games? That's a fucking disgrace FA, they've been swayed by Mourinho's Media Machine again. No way in a million years should that have been reduced. What an absolute farce.

Then Chelsea have the gall to further complain... utter cunts. Embarrassment of a club.

I like this article. Just a side note I think there have now been 35 articles in guardian over the incident.

personal favorite part

What was most striking was the barely disguised glee with which sections of the press leapt on this incident. I think the Guardian must have cancelled all leave and summoned all staff to man/woman the computers through the night. How else to explain that it managed to publish nine — nine — articles about the Metro incident on the day it was exposed, adding a further 24 articles since then? Who even has time to read that many articles? Luckily you don’t have to, for they all say the same thing: ‘Unreconstructed football racism 1970s En-ger-land gross stupid knuckle-draggers Danny Dyer so ashamed ohmygod idiots White People kick it out kick them out imprison them.’
