Obviously I am old, I even saw Dave Mackay play. But Alan Gilzean was a friend of my parents, he came to watch me play in my first cup final in 1971 when I was 10, then gave me a lift home in his Jaguar. Which was littered inside with around thirty empty Rothmans packets.

Also my very first booking was for fouling Garry Brooke, in around 1974, when he was playing for Waltham Forest.

In the late 80s and early 90s I had to work at Highbury for virtually every home game, and so came into contact with a lot of the Woolwich players. Of whom, I will say Alan Smith was an utter c**t, Lee Dixon told me to f**k off and was so nearly arrested** but perhaps surprisingly the best two were Tony Adams and Paul Merson. Really. Merson spent a lot of time and his own money entertaining a child cancer victim one night after we had been playing a charity tournament there.

** EDIT - I should explain. They had just won the league and a load of players were in the VIP Lounge, refusing to leave at closing time. I was a cop and was called in to clear them out. I bottled it on the basis that it would go nuclear when it hit the papers.

Use to live in Hoddesdon in the 70s and 80s.loads of Spurs players lived in nearby Wormley,Turnford, stansted abbots and Hoddesdon itself. Gerry Armstrong actually lived on my estate(100 acre) as opposed to living in the posher areas(at the time most players lived in a road called "the butts" in wormley/Turnford)Good bloke he was too.Use to stop and have a chat with us whenever he popped in the off licence we all hang around outside.
Gazza came in my local(The Sun) on more than one occasion and David Howells occasionally got in the pub near my house(the old Highway). And all the players from the late 80s side use to go in Bumbles on Hoddesdon high road.

One of my mates was with a bird that looked like Ray Parlour so I'll count that

Some people may find the gag contained in the next spoiler box to be a wee bit distasteful. This i appreciate, and thought long and hard about whether or not to put this gag here. However, at the end of the day, it was an opportunity to have a cheap dig at Ray Parlour, the bastard son of John Merrick and Worzel Gummidge
to rocky dennis for suggesting that he looks like a gooner

yes, Im aware this is Laura Dern and Eric Stoltz (no, its not the real ray parlour).

I've spoken to quite a few while doing interviews and hosting legends nights.

Harry Redknapp, Steffen Freund, Martin Jol, Michael Dawson, Corluka, Anderton, Gary Mabbutt, Jamie Redknapp, Chris Hughton, Clive Allen, Perryman, Niko Kranjcar, Kaboul, Huddlestone, Nayim, Burkinshaw, Cliff Jones, Chivers, Peters, Thorstvedt, Ardiles, Roberts, Hazard, Sedgley, Ian Walker, Howells, Brooke and Falco.

The nicest of them was Steffen Freund. Gary Mabbutt and Martin Jol deserves a mention as well, and Harry Redknapp was actually great chatting to(I can understand why the journos love him). Erik The Viking as well of course!

Stephane Dalmat (remember him?)

Went to see us spank Wolves 5-2 at home a few years ago (or was it 5-3). Dalmat was brought on, and was in stunning fashion so very much better than every single other player on the pitch that day.

After the game I was passing by BNW, after having turned south on the High Road. We were in the Paxton corner of East Stand that day.

I saw him come out the gates in his huge fucking Mercedes S whatever. Raised a fist at him when I walked past him stuck in traffic and just burst into a "Well Done Stephane!!!". Looked straight at me, started driving alone with traffic, went right past me...

... and rolled down the window and high five'd me as he passed without a word.

He handled that pretty well'ish, I have to admit.

...

He later went on to punch O'Hara in training and then went to god knows where. Ridiculously talented player. Like an attacking Démbélé

Went to school with Dele Alli, he was in the year below I believe, quality lad, always played in our years squad(we tore it up, me on the right with most assists in the league every single year, that was the good days and this little pit bull in the middle shredding it up)always knew he was going places, that's probably why I see so highly of him, it's pretty cool seeing someone you've played with make it for not only your local club but also your favourite club! Despite not making it myself I'm proud of the lad and hope he becomes a legend here!

Don't worry mate. You can always get a zero hour contract at your local tesco express.

Any of them a bit rubbish?

Spoke to Clive Allen after a youth match when he was involved with the youth in 2006. Very nice and polite and signed my shirt, even though all the youth players ignored me and my brother.

Met Ossie Ardiles at his book signing - very charming, polite and funny, he saw Clive Allen's small-ish signature on my shirt and said "if you do it, do it properly" before signing his name massively across my shirt. :ade:

Micky Hazard used to coach me for a bit. He was hilarious and encouraging, but if you were messing around he would hammer you. And it was all about the first touch and the high "tempoooh".

Met the King for the signing of his book. He was lovely, but I was absolutely star struck terrified, I kept stumbling over my words.:paulinhofacepalm:

Like Bobby Smith, I used to go to all the Spurs Supporters' Club events and got loads of photos with the players. Also so many book signings, I've lost count.
Apart from that, I saw Erik the Viking at Peter Pan's playground at Southend a couple of months after he signed for us. He was absolutely delightful and happily posed for a photo with me.
I also met Ian Moores and John Gorman in Malta back in the 80s when they were staying at the resort my mum worked at. Ian was a bit distant but John was very friendly and happy to chat. Last year, Keith Burkinshaw was also in Malta last year when I happened to be there.
Lastly, when Archibald bought a pub off Roman Road, Bethnal Green for his dad, went to the opening, which was attended by all the players at that time and also met Chas 'n Dave!
