I would be surprised if there was true interest in Llorente. Seems like he is the anti-Poch/Mitchell target given his age, style of play, etc. I also wonder that if the interest is true, that we may be having major difficulties attracting young up and coming strikers with Kane here. I think the young guns will want to go places where they can be the "man" vs second fiddle.

Llorente is a powerhouse. Big units like him, Drogba, Toni (just racked up two 20 goal seasons at the age of 38...) don't have to rely on pace as much and as a pressing team we don't need pace as much. What we need is physical players that unsettle deep defences - which is why AVB wanted Hulk.

Imo, we are a couple of years too late in signing Llorente, but ...
I'm all up for signing him as one of our backup strikers. He really is built for this league. Plus, he's known to be a decent influence for youngsters, in the dressing room and behind the scenes. If we are getting rid of Ade and Soldado, replacing them with another wise, old head won't be such a bad idea.

That being said, we NEED pace up top. It's absolulty imperative that we still sign a winger or another speedy striker who can play on the wings!
also he has played for bielsa at bilbao which poch resembles and impliments same type of tactics

Felt very sorry for him ( Bobby Soldier) . Not much thought was given to his loss of a child whilst suffering a barren spell due to lack of service.
Unfortunately, he then got so unsettled when he did get chances, he fluffed them.
He did have an awful lot of bad luck though.
I would think it best for him to move on, for his sake.
Seems like a genuine bloke I really wish it would have worked out for him.
He's well liked by everyone at the club & by most of us. Could have been a fucking super hero with goals!

Agree with all of that but it didn't help his confidence getting dropped for the next game after he had scored for us, Everton for instance so Pooch has to shoulder some blame imo!
:pochfacepalm:

I haven't seen enough of him, since he joined Juve to judge one way or another, whether he's lost it.

Personally, I'm sceptical because of our style of play. Just as is the case with Benteke, who's clearly a (potential) monster of a striker. I'm just not sure, they will be with us. Having said that, I have more confidence in the people actually deciding who we sign (and how they play) than I can remember having at any previous time. So if we sign a tall striker, I'll be happy enough given my trust that Poch has a plan to play in a way that'll bring their strengths into focus.....
it shouldnt be a problem he played under bielsa at bilbao and poch is kinda one of his students

Still too old. Luca Toni, like Totti and Llorente is in a league which doesn't punish old legs like England does. Drogba looks good until you see how few minutes he played. He was marginally better than Roberto Soldado, but still was not someone I would want to be relying on.

If you want someone to fuck some defenders up and score goals, I think we'd be better off finding someone younger, with less downside risk.

We'll see what Pochettino thinks, at any rate.

You,re excused. The number of strikers who experience major upswings in performance after 30 over the last 10 years is likely single digits. Are you willing to bet several million a year that Llorente is the next Totti, or should we go for something a little more probable?
realisticly.... i wouldnt bet against him scoring more goals than ade and bobby managed last season

Llorente is past it and would be a disappointing buy. He did not play well at all last season and is nowhere near as good as he was in his best years at Bilbao. He used to be a big name but he's not that player anymore and I don't understand why everyone wants him so badly.
will only be as backup to give kane a breather hes got alot of experience won world cup n euros champs lge runners up n more, could do alot worse. it might not sound that exciting but its smart move in my opinion

That doesn't make him worthwhile, it just means he isn't completely incompetent. That's not the threshold we're working under here.

Can we find someone better than Llorente for this team, as a third striker, for less money, who would score more? I think so. I think that player is likely to be both much younger, and easier to find than many think.

Did you actually watch any Bilbao games back then, or are you just assuming stuff? Because there's a major flaw in your logic! Yes, he's a student of some of Bielsa's thinking. That doesn't mean, they approach everything the same way. For instance, Bielsa played two wingers as opposed to Poch's preference for inverted wide players. For me at least that makes a huge difference when talking about a target man striker....

Not sure what I think of a potential Llorente signing but it sounds like agent talk to me. There's always a few guys every season that are previously good players heading out of their primes and we never sign them (see: Lavezzi earlier this summer). Llorente doesn't really fit our profile. Unless Pochettino is really stumping for him, I don't see it happening.
