Don't forget the goal line clearance, It may have been in this game, which was the first time I had seen him play for us!

Ok. I`ll try and explain.
If Berahino is the player Pochettino wants, and he costs 25million, as a fan I would rather see us pay the 25million than spend 6million on a third choice alternative. I would not be going to bed at night worrying about us doing a Leeds or a Portsmouth as a result. When I go to WHL, I like to see a winning team on the pitch. That gets me excited. Studying our balance sheet and calculating what we can and cannot spend to reach the magical net figure of zero doesn`t quite get me off in the same way. I reckon most fans of most teams probably feel the same way.

Thats all very well, but you have two choices:

Live in a fantasy where our spending has no consequences and even if we cant afford 25M, just think we should spend it anyway.

Or

Want us to be successful, get frustrated at our apparent lack of transfer activity, but at the same time accept that you know nothing about anything when it comes to running a football club or where our money is going.

Personally, I want the right signings. I dont care if he costs 25M or 6M. Relatively speaking, the most important players in the squad cost fuck all, when you consider what we spent on Lamela, Soldado and Paulinho...

We really have trimmed the fat off this squad nicely.

Couple signings at DM and ST/AM/LW and this window will be just what the doctor ordered.

Kramer and Berahino in a perfect world. We aren't that far away people.

Berahino actually isn't proven. Strip out the penalties and he looks a lot less rosy. He scored 14 goals. But only 10 from open play. Almost a third of his goals were penalties. Werner and Batshuayi in contrast had none last year (Batshuayi missed the only penalty he took).

Batshuayi scored 9 non-penalty goals last year in 920 minutes. Berahino 10 in 3000.

Even if the French lad's rate of scoring fell 50% next year (likely), it's still better than Berahino's.

Saido is a decent prospect. Batshuayi is a really highly rated one.
You can put all the minutes per goal stats up you like. I simply don't believe you can compare scoring records between the Premier League and Ligue 1. They're chalk and cheese in terms of quality.

Is it any wonder no one has bitten Lyon's arm off for the Ligue 1 top scorer Lacazette yet? Players from that league are a risk. A big risk. He needs to score more than 9 non penalty goals to prove he can be a useful back up to Kane.

In any case, it doesn't appear he plays up front much - looking at stats seems he gets put out wide of in attacking midfield most of the time?

Berahino is a much safer bet than either of the other two - that is simple fact. I would question whether either are actually comparable to Berahino in terms of position though.

fucking hell mate :paulinhofacepalm:
3 choices then.. Berahino: he's quick, young, agile, experience in the EPL and has a decent scoring record..
This batman bloke who plays for a mediocre team in a piss poor league (bar PSG)
or bobby up front...

it's as if you want us to finish 12th..

I honestly don't feel he is a safe bet. I like what I've seen, but he's not a standout. 10 goals in 3000 minutes from a striker is mediocre. Nacer Chadli delivered that playing left wing and shooting less. Why not just buy another left wing and make Nacer play striker instead? (This actually may be what we are doing)

The reason no one's gotten Lacazette yet is because the player hasn't shown a big desire to move, and the club are asking for over 40 million, which is stupid money.

After his numbers come down to earth next year he'll likely move for half that.

Berahino's record isn't "decent" It's mediocre. I think he'd be a good back-up signing, but he's not likely to be a break-out superstar. Batshuayi on the other hand is very raw, but has the potential to be much bigger.

They aren't our only options, or even our preferred options though, so perhaps thinking of it as either of them or Soldado is a bit wide of the mark.
