Coulthirst was pretty highly rated before. I just think disappointing loans have laid on people's minds.

He has good movement for a striker and works hard. I dont see a Kane type breakthrough for him but as a second choice in a friendly against an MLS all star team, I see no problem.

Another person comparing a team that spend £300 million and are aiming for the title with us :chadliblow:

Are we competing for the title? Have we spent anywhere near that amount? Are United Rivals? No, no and no. It shouldn't be a surprise if we lose, it should be expected and we shouldn't base our season around that.
Our season depends on wins against Crystal Palace and Stoke, more so than against United.

Ok let's look at Crystal Palace, it's Jedinak and Cabaye, another superior DM partnership from a supposed 'inferior' team compared to ours.

BTW I never implied we're United rivals or equals by any means, I was merely addressing my fears about how a fragile midfield of ours is going to be overruned, dominated, subdued and destroyed by far superior Utd midfield.

Mate, Dembele and Bentaleb pissed all over the best midfield in the Premier Leagu last year.

I have no doubt if Mason is still injured and we haven't got a cental midfielder in then that is more than likely the two that'll start against United and that doesn't bother me at all, both capable of playing well against Schneiderlin (who we bossed twice last year) and Carrick.

I think you are wrong.

I believe penalties count as a test of nerve, skill and precision. If they were that easy, nobody would ever miss.
But it's not a skill unique to strikers. There are keepers who've been designated penalty takers. Heck, for the Chelsea game, why didn't Harry take the penalty? It doesn't have to be the striker's job. Hence, it's not relevant to evaluating them when you're trying to find the best guy for scoring from open play.

We're looking for strikers. We don't need a guy good at penalties, we need a guy good at scoring from open play. So you strip the penalties out of the totals to get numbers more accurate to what you look at.

Not to mention that strikers will often be the ones to earn the penalties in the first place... so their speed, trickery, and footwork can also be reflected in their penalty numbers.
(We'll exclude diving for argument's sake)

They aren't, as earning the penalty has no connection to being the person who takes it. You're confusing the measuring of two different things.

I can not believe I have just read this on a Tottenham Hotspur fans forum

No teams season depends on beating the top 4. It depends on beating the other 15 teams.

We were 6 points off 4th. We lost twice to Stoke. That's 6 points.

We drew and lost to Crystal Palace. That's 5 points dropped.

Those 11 points would have had us finish joint third. Beating the smaller teams is what makes or breaks a season, not beating Chelsea 5-3, however fun that is.

At the end of the day it's 1 game. Past couple of years losing 4, 5 or 6-0 against top 4 rivals was pretty common, so surprising that you even worry about these things. United aren't as good as many are making out to be.

why should we be expecting to lose. dosen't matter who its against you play to win. we've proved plenty of times we can beat the best on our day

United finished 1 place above us last season, and one place below us the season before. I thought they were rivals. more so than Palace and Stoke anyway.

Maybe not, and tbh I wouldn't be shocked if we didn't beat them. I still want to see us go up there and give it a good go. I've never expected us to beat ManU, but it was a fucking great feeling when we did.

Let's be honest we know how this Berahino deal will play out. Weeks of frustration with us losing out in the end due to our bald bastard of a chairman not paying the required amount. This is the fighting cock forum every transfer window

I didn't say we should be expecting to lose (Subjective, a personal stance), i said it's expected (Objective, probability based). There's a subtle difference. In terms of probability, we're likely to lose. In terms of mentality, I doubt any player will go there thinking they've lost before the ball is kicked.

And we've proved we can get absolutely smashed and ruin ourselves too.
