Unless we are looking at Schobesberger or Beric from Vienna who are both getting rave reviews.

Who!?

You have to be the football equivalent of Jonah in Moneyball surely!

heres-why-the-guy-who-jonah-hill-plays-in-moneyball-refused-to-let-them-use-his-name-in-the-movie.jpg

Eriksen I liked, Chadli I liked (and still when he was getting dogs abuse in year 1 after just early days and injuries). Capoue I was hopeful about and we all know he did show signs of being capable. All of those were reasonable prices. Vlad, had no idea. Paulinho, really didn't know either, hadn't played top level club football and is Brazilian - not a guarantee to settle or work out.

Soldado I thought would score goals, maybe not 20-30 but at least 15-20.......oh dear. Really wanted Negredo in the previous window when Everton were linked for £11m, before City came along a few months later for bigger money.

Lamela didn't even look like a world beater on his You Tube reel mate. Could see his weaknesses and that Serie A was a totally different proposition. Crazy money, huge huge gamble.

All in all I would have probably gone for all of them except Paulinho and Lamela unless they were half the price.

That's without actually being paid to scout these guys properly and analyse them and assess their suitability and role as part of our team and a balanced squad. Its somebody's job and expertise to do that!

That's my honest view from the time. I was gutted about Modric and Rafa going the year before and saw them as irreplaceable. Then it was obvious we'd never see the likes of Bale again either. I was just gutted Bale went as really prayed and hoped we'd get one more year. Those signings were never going to replace those 3 and we weren't ever going to unless we went for 2-3 established, world class £35m types. Soldado was the closest to that but still not that level, he hasn't worked but we've never set up for him so didn't help.
Thing is I can't remember too many people saying we are not set up for Soldado. Lamlea we would not have signed, if Willian had not run out of Hotspur Way, yet Lamela has fared better with assists and scored just as many league goals and more overall.
Paulinho, to all intents and purposes was thought of as a massive signing.
Yes, it's the man charged with watching and buying players that should know. That's the point. Most loved Baldini then & now, with hindsight, he's a cunt who messed up.
Levy obviously knows not much about players and employs people who do to do so. He has to make decisions based on what is available/willing to come. They are not always going to be correct.
We were all happy with Mitchell's appointment, well the majority. So, let's just let him do his job and see how that turns out.
In a couple of years we may be calling Mitchell a cunt and Poch another Levy disaster.
However, like the original poster said levy seems to have backed Poch all the way. There are no more leaks, no more players undermining managers and those that did, supposedly, have been shown the door. We seem to be avoiding headlines and there is less media bullshit.
Also Baldini seems to have been given less influence.
It's a new direction. We already have a chairman who avoids the courting the media spotlight and now a manager/staff who do likewise.

Whether backing Poch and hiring Mitchell will be a mistake is yet to be seen. It's obvious why they have been employed at this time though. That's why I cannot understand the spend, spend, spend regardless mentality of some.
Let's just put this out there. Considering we are not going to have the spending power of the top 4, who would everyone want in charge, excluding Frank De Boer - I just don't think he'd realistically come here. Like the ones who need to have money:
Van Gaal, Benetiz, Mourinho etc, etc.,
&
Who, right now, would people want to see buy out our club to do a better job?

Beric is far away from being a PL striker, but Schobes is great.

Beric is a gamble. I know a few Austrians who think he's far and beyond Jelavic as an overall footballer and I think we could do alot worse than Beric if we end up signing Berahino too.

Schobesberger though would be good if agree. Hopefully he impresses today.

Totti Totti reminds me of a friend of mine. He's like rainman with football players. I'm suspecting extreme amounts of Football Manager as I knew pretty much every player in Europe under 23 years of age while playing FM06.

Its mostly down to gambling really. You see these players pop up with a goal and you keep an eye on them. Mane was another one when keeping an eye on Salzburg a few years ago. Though I feel Schobesberger could surpass.

See, this one I'm comfortable judging in the moment. Empowering your manager and creating a stable, unified technical staff that has the sovereignty to make their own decisions is the right move no matter how it turns out, and if it turns out poorly over the long term, we should sack them all and do the same thing again.

Can't see us buying Young simply because he is no longer what his name states. 30 year old players aren't being bought by Spurs currently. He is a solid player though. His diving and cheating rightly put people off but he was really good last season.

I'm guessing our recruitment policy is young (under 26ish), hungry players, that will fit or can be moulded into Poch's system. If we did go for an older player, I reckon it'd only be for an outstanding talent or a leader-type figure, neither of which is Ashley Young IMO.

Freddy adu played a blinder over the weekend in the yank equivilent of the blue square league 2, by all accounts.
Just saying incase Paul Mitchell logs on here during his rare football manager 2015/2016 breaks
