Match Man United away

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Early on, not happy with the result nor should anyone but there are certainly things to be optimistic about. We definitely deserved a point for the effort and aside from some minor lapses we outclassed Man U most of the game. I think the headline from the match was a overhyped Man U squad escaping embarrassment against a hungry young Spurs.

The Good: Toby, Vert & Davies

The Solid: Kane, Erikson & Dier (surprised for playing in DM, still not sold on this position for him)

The they were there (meh): Vorm, Lamela, Mason & Alli

The Uninspired: Dembele & Chadli (a continuing issue, Chadli deserves minutes based on his finishing but he should be a rotational player at best. Dembele is a totally different issue, with the exception of being strong on the ball and being Belgian I see no upside of him being in our side. He lacks creativity, passing and pace, also hasn't showed a lot of finishing not sure why Poch keeps throwing him up the pitch. Hopefully a winger/striker will be brought in soon to add some creativity and some pace to the final third.)

The Poor: Bentalib (Unfortunate, but I think he'll rebound. He's a very smooth and controlled player but he let overconfidence sneak into his passing today and he paid for it.)

The Solid/Poor: Walker (Not sure he's completely a victim on his own goal, but other than that solid as a rock defensively.)

Were young but talented, I think if were able to close the window with some solid attacking signings along with a possible DM we'll be set. COYS!
How can you say chadli should be a rotations player? He had a bad game sure but the Milan friendly shows how great he can be when on his game. I didn't think walker was bad either. The own goal was completely unfortunate.

Agreed apart from Eriksen. I thought he was poor today and is in danger of becoming an enigma. Goes missing far too much for me.

Not sure I agree with that. We played fuck around with the ball a little to much for my taste. Nearly cost us several times, may be even the MU score. I like controlled possession out of the back, but it looked like we were forcing that tactic. You have to pick your spots. Clear it to Harry, he's does well holding off the defender and bringing down the high ball.

Overall I think we out played them less the period right after the OG. Too many missed chances cost us in the end

When? They didn't have a shot on goal up to, and for a good period after, the OG. I agree the goal let them into the game, but I'd hardly say our possession out of the back was at fault for any of it. Our CMs know our system... a simple mistake like that is going to wreak havoc on our backline as our fullbacks are essentially wingers when we have the ball; Bentaleb shouldn't have been so careless, simple as that really. But, it happened and that's that. Thought we did well to hoof it to Harry when it needed to be done.

Agree with the missed chances. Would've been nice to see Eriksen put his 3rd minute effort away. Oh well.

First Premier League goal to be an o.g. ...history makers! :walker:
De Gea's replacement keeping a clean sheet... and them scoring without a single shot on goal... Spursy!

For me, it wasn't the loss so much as the way we lost. We looked like shit and I don't care if it was ManU away. They looked bad and beatable.

Pretty much how I saw it, except that I thought Walker played well overall and I don't think you can honestly say we outclassed them. We held our own though, away from home against a team that is meant to be in the top 2 at the end of the season.
I don't think you can really give Lamela or Alli a rating, they weren't on long enough.

For the people who seem to argue, that first games of the seasons are sort of non-important warm up exercises:

By how many points did we miss out on CL places for the last few seasons, come again?

He gave the ball away at least 4 times before they eventually took advantage and scored. I'm a big Bentaleb fan and I'm sure he'll be great again this season, but today he was sloppy and to be honest, a bit of a liability.

Yep. But I personally would rather a player go for the throat than play it safe from midfield. I mentioned before the season that he's taking more risks with no look passing and give and go's. And like I said before the game, that is too risky to do from deep. So I knew the problem.

Imo spurs fans in general howl too much of a player missed a pass. (Not saying you are)

If that ball came off Davies would have been clear down the wing.

It was a cracking interception. Was it carrick? The move after it was gold too so sometimes you have to applaud good play.

At the end of the day, Poch has instructed the team to play it from the back. And IMO that is a bad idea. Way too many hospital balls.

Our coaching was the architect of this loss. We only look in trouble if we force it from deep.

IMO Bentaleb needs to play again, but further up front as an AM. Chadli had a bad game. Move Bentaleb into the AM and we can keep the Dolphin as backup for Kane.
