Player Alfie Dorrington

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Oh dear oh dear. Playing a player before he's ready can have an devastating impact on a player's self-confidence.

Comment about him from a Spurs fan on SC:

From the highlights it looks like he had a tough start to his life in Aberdeen. They were losing 1-0 when he came on but he air kicked a clearance from a corner which resulted in another cross coming in which Rangers scored their 2nd from. The 3rd was a disaster for him as he let the ball bounce over his head on the halfway line, then slipped over as he tried to recover, giving the striker a pretty clear run through on goal. Still, it’s his first game and it was in front of a large hostile crowd. A steep learning curve for the lad, but hopefully it’s the making of him.

Imagine what it would have done to his confidence if Ange threw him into a PL game?

I doubt any of those berating the manager for protecting the player will change their opinions though

Because he’s also better off developing where he is.
So your quite happy leaving us short at c/h.. we are at bare bones with all.the juices licked off ffs....archie is younger as is bergval both thrown in as needed and excelled for there age .philips has 2 seasons first team expierience now in the 1st division ...
The good of the club now is far more important than 6 months development of a single player...

But don't worry ..philips can be our first choice center half in the 1st division next season.

No I’m not happy, we should’ve signed a CB who is ready.

Archie is a full season of championship football ahead of Phillips.

I don’t agree with panicking and jeopardizing Phillips development for 5 games in January instead of signing the player we need even when we have a fully fit squad

Errrrr..we havnt got a,fully fit squad and won't be anywhere near with romeo and vdv till the end of Feb.

Poor old Alfie sees his first minutes in the league tonight since 1st Feb in a 5-1 hammering away at Celtic. Got subbed on around the hour mark at 3-0 down. Game ended 5-1. Looked a bit lost chasing around too much. I guess probably largely as a result of the difference in levels between the 2 teams.

This is a disastrous loan.
The only reason why I can think they chose Aberdeen (who are shit) is that they have very few games left to play and they are nursing Dorrington's fitness.

He’s an 18 year old CB with no first team experience who hasn’t looked great anytime I’ve watched him.

I doubt we had loads of clubs knocking down the door trying to get him on loan.

Apparently, big things were expected. And have wholly not been delivered. Not mixing that well with the other players, not performing at training, a bit lightweight for the rough and tumble of Scottish football.

Can’t say I’m that surprised. He was struggling to deal with players in the under 23s.
Good learning curve for him anyway.

But I wonder what Aberdeen based their expectations on?? YouTube highlights??

Coming from a big team in a big league to a medium team in a wee league, the expectations were pretty basic I believe. Being able to train well, communicate, pass to a team mate, tackle the opposition.

Looks like you can have him play on a rather cold afternoon and he loses what interest he has when he gets clattered by a handy bastard for the first time. The word “pansy” is being mentioned by a lot of fans.

Scottish football has its rightful place as being not very skilled, but it’s a tough league. Seems it’s beyond young Alfie, but he may well be suited to a more refined style back with us.

It’s what so many people on here fail to recognise.

The step up between development football and professional “lives on the line” stuff is huge.

There’s no hiding place. I was seeing him getting bullied by 21 year olds with no first team experience. He’s still a kid.

That first step into men’s football is a real wake up to some though. Don’t fully commit and you’re in the realm of getting badly hurt.

Premier league is just as physical I’d imagine. Or at least the players are as strong.
Probably just a lot quicker and more intense though.
