A lot of people moaned he was taking too many shots, but i think in the last game the same people moaned that we didnt shoot enough.

It's because of poor decision making on his part. Shooting when people are open or shooting when he's crowded out. No happy medium.

The cherry on top of the fail trifle is even he should shoot, he does not have the ability to, well....shoot.

Maybe he can learn to make better decisions over time, with more game time and a regular striker ahead of him.

What made me chuckle yesterday was that his best shot off the dribble was with his right foot, when he composes himself before shooting he has a real decent left and right foot shot.

I can not understand the flak Andros gets, at least he showed last night and wanted the ball........whilst fans favourite Lennon did his usual fuck all. Oh silly me, I forgot Lennon did touch the ball when it went out of play and he fetched it for the ever improving Naughton to take a throw in.

It's not the other players that are the issue. All of Andros' problems are between his ears. He has all the physical tools we want in a player. His decision making though is a waste of those gifts, and he's not showing signs of learning.

For the people critiquing for Townsend's defensive work I really question if you've watched him at all recently where he's been tireless at pressing and winning the ball back.

Anyway though, here's an interesting article that provides a counter view to the one already posted http://cartilagefreecaptain.sbnation.com/2014/9/25/6843269/townsend-deserves-exceptional-patience
I think it's instructive that there were a massive amount of counter-arguments and that the author of the article conceded at least 2 of his points as a result of those.

So if we dont shoot enough in one game, you are happy if one player has 30 shots in the next game, that all but one average out at 5 meters off target? When he has players waiting for tap ins if he had the ability to pass?
Exactly. Andros tried exactly one pass to another attacking player all game. And he did that when he was actually in the better position for the only time that night.

He's one of three players we have who can actively take a player on, regardless of his end product he's an nightmare to play against, you could see it in the Forrest left backs face whenever Townsend got the ball, especially later on when they struggled to double mark him. He's not Gareth Bale, he's a pacey option from the bench with potential. One of those players 'fans' Love to loath.

I dont think he can. He's not young young. He's had about 10 different managers to learn from over the years on loan with a 100 coaches and he's never learned a damn thing from any of them.

He needs to go to learn at another club. Eventually he will get better, but his best will be 4 or 5 goals and assists a season. Good enough for minnows in the prem, but for us we need more and he's hampering our development.

Actually he was being mocked by their fans. They sung "youre just a shit Aron Lennon", "what the fucking hell was that" at his shooting and also "you're just a shit Theo Wallcot". His failures gave the away fans reason to celebrate.

I'm just glad Soldado was sharp enough to make one of those howlers make them fucking sick. Against other opposition this season, he won't have the luxury of so many attempts at goal for his glory hunting scattergun shooting to waste ammo on.

Chances are a premium. I don't want him taking another shot when we have players younger than him that are more of a finished article and more well rounded that can take them.

Yes. Thats exactly what i meant......

What i'm really saying is that people will moan either way, not many people change their thinking on a player/manager..... They work in absolutes, they sound out their opinion, and will spend the next year or so defending their position, even if the evidence points to the contrary.

I dont know why it is, but thats just how people seem to be.

Regarding Townsend, what evidence points to the contrary that he creates absolutely nothing, and does the same thing in every single game?

If he matures as a player, and starts slotting in the odd through ball so those around him end up in a one on one, or some of his crosses find a Spurs player, or a few more than 3 of his 78 shots go in (that is a real, actual stat), then I will be very happy for him and the team.

If he stops being shit, I for one will stop calling him shit.

Doesn't mean he didn't rip (the mighty) Danny Fox a new one in the last half an hour. Once you've been booed and moaned at by your home crowd enough (not just the Forrest match) he can't give a flying fuck who mocks him. The point that we have other players who are better finishers is completely true other than the fact they can't make an opportunity for themselves like he can, his shooting is appalling but he creates so many opportunities for himself, even though people know what he's going to do, when he starts getting his shoulders above the ball a bit more and keeping those shots lower a La the Soldado goal he'd be lethal.

His opportunities come at the expense of better opportunities for others. If he stopped shooting for the stars and tried a throughball to the striker when he cuts in, we'd have something worthwhile. As it stands, he creates nothing, as his "creating chances for himself" is actually a refusal to pass the ball to better placed teammates. That's actively hurting the team. Not helping.

Problem is at the moment though is we have too many players who shirk the responsibility. I'd rather him attempt something than pass it off to someone who passes it on to someone else who passes it on...etc. His main quality is his directness, and that's something we have very little of.

We have plenty. What we didn't have last night until the subs was someone trying to get the ball to Soldado. He didn't try to play the ball to the striker once. That is the main offensive duty he had, and he never attempted it. He made 2 passes to Soldado all night. The second of them was actually a shot which Soldado re-directed into the net. A 50% conversion from 2 touches. In contrast, Andros took how many shots? And their success rate was the square root of sweet F.A. I don't care how direct he is, the point of the game is to score goals, and nothing Andros is trying to do happens to actually accomplish that.
