Sticking with your man can go either way. There is absolutely no guarantee it will yield success.
For every Fergie and (maybe Legoman) there are the likes of Paul Lambert and Glen Roeder who got enough time to see their teams relegated.
The simple equation is time does not equal success. Talent equals success but may require time.
Mate, we aren't getting relegated.
If we are buying a group of players for him, we best be giving him enough time to see if he can get it right or we are back to square 1, again.
Ange, in my opinion, is the guy to give that to.
I remember people saying exactly this after Poch's first season too.
Pochs team were boo'd off the pitch on more than one occasion
Poch First Season -
Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts
38 19 7 12 58 53 +5 64
Ange's First Season
Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts
38 20 6 12 74 61 +13 66
And yes, I know Poch had more dross in his squad to get rid of, but he also didn't have the injury issues we had.
What happened at the start of Pochs second season
1 loss to United then 3 draws with Stoke, Leicester and Everton - after that, we lost 5 games the rest of the season.
Did we panic? Am sure some people did, but we stuck with him and arguments aside over whether we backed him properly or not, the shaky results in the first season and the start of the second were not enough reasons to let him go - he was clearly the right guy at the right time for us.
Another thing too
What managers come into a team and actually revolutionise them from day dot for an entire season without a dip in form?
Its as rare as the other way round.
