Am im the only one feeling totally "meh" about the new season? I am just not feeling the wave of optimism that hiring Ange has created for some of you.

I'm sure once the first game rolls around, I'll have convinced myself that we can win the league. But right now...tough to muster up a semi. Sorry Ange.
We havent made any improvement to the squad yet which sucks. But lots of time until the new season starts. We are unlikely to go with zero signings.

I'm optimistic, actually quite excited. Don't expect to be competitive against the top dogs but we will give most a good game. Would be happy with us getting top 8 and just a stable season with a team that beds in and works well together, anything that is top 6 is a real achievement. Bottom half would be disappointing, but wouldn't surprise me...albeit I don't expect we will be.

We are not very competitive against the top boys, especially away from home, they always crumble, but a top eight finish is likely nowadays.

This didn’t sound optimistic nor exciting. Top 8 if we do well, top 6 if we’re SUPER lucky and bottom half if it goes a tad wrong.

Sounds like more lowering of the bar to me .. which I find sad. There’s no reason that post stadium build Spurs should now be looking at top 8 as OK.

I’m getting really excited for the new season - fascinating to see the squad take shape and think we are going to play some entertaining stuff - bring it on COYS

Top 4 for us next season. We were total dog shit last season and not far off Newcastle and Utd who think they’ve had great and decent seasons. With the squad getting freshened up with better quality in the gk and centre back areas and a new style of play I’ve not doubt at all we will be miles better than last season. All this pish talk about being 8th or maybe bottom half is as delusional as saying we could challenge for the league last season. We are still a top club and with good players added to the ones we have then top 4 isn’t beyond us.
Newcastle will not hit the heights of last season,Man Utd or not to be feared ever now,Liverpool will likely get back to being themselves,Woolwich will find next season more difficult and you just never about Chelsea.
Apart from city there is nothing to be scared of and we’ll beat them at home anyway.

It's not lowering the bar it's accepting that we are in transition. Hopefully there will be a squad overhaul with a manager who will be playing a totally different style to what we have been the last few seasons.

It's going to take a bit of time to get us to where we want to be but hopefully we will start to see a new direction on and off the pitch. With no europe to worry about we can give the cups a real good go too.

Definitely in the mix for top 4 if we get the transfers right.

1 game per week is a big advantage and Newcastle/Brighton/Villa all new to being in Europe and not resting players.

Not sure Poch can repair that other mess as fast as they think.

Woolwich back in CL could also have a sneaky rough season with no depth up front

Top 6 is the basic level but 4th or even 3rd isn’t impossible.

That's exactly how I feel, which is what I meant from my post, but you explained it better 😁

Transition, transition, transition. We've been in transition since Poch left !!!!

We've got a clear run at the league with no European distractions, a pretty deep squad, Kane is still here next season, Ange is apparently fucking brilliant .. but 8th would be decent? Emery went from mid-table to 7th in half a bloody season.

The MINIMUM expectation should be to get back in to the Europa League. If Ange can't manage that, then he won't be lasting long.

I'll be surprised if he lasts the season.

:pochsmirk:

Nah, let's hope he does well and overachieves at our club. Our rivals are making some serious moves whilst we sit there trying to haggle Brentford down or insult Leicester with a derisory opening bid, or at least allegedly.

If he succeeds it will be despite Levy and ENIC, not because of them.
If he succeeds it'll be because of Levy/ENIC, since they're the ones that hired him.

Once we hit our stride we could very well be a top 4 team. Until that happens, however, we'll likely drop enough points that our final league position will be somewhere between 5-8. Which is fine, as long as we're performing like a top 4 team eventually.

Excellent post. Anybody with any intelligence would completely agree.
