A bit more what?

We are playing our first PL match next Sunday and we still haven't got a CB through the door, I distinctly remember last season Conte got all of his players (bar Spence) in before pre season kicked off, and that's just one instance.
He didn't get "His" players. Conté got what Levy was willing to buy.

Of course he did dear, keep telling yourself that.

Whilst you're busy rehashing old stories and twisting them to suit your little desperate narrative, I'm firmly on the Ange train so I don't care for the little Italian man anymore, looking forward not back.

I didn't say they came close either. I said no one would have been moaning if their boring football brought us a trophy.
There you go with that fucking word "if."The boring football wasn't successful and it was boring too plus Conte was an insufferable passive aggressive who showed no desire to be at the club.

Ok. Which players were his first choice players? I'm keen on finding out.

Every word Ange Postecoglou said on Ndombele, Van de Ven, Alejo Veliz, Kane and more transfers

Here's every word the Tottenham head coach said after the 4-2 defeat to Barcelona in the club's final pre-season friendly before the Premier League begins

What were you thoughts on that game?

It was good. First half was excellent. They got the goal but our response to that was excellent. The whole first half we played some really good football, pressed them and you could see they were uncomfortable. I thought the lads were outstanding. We just ran out of legs in the second half. We had a lot of guys out there who this was their first 90 minutes at this intensity.

It was my decision not to make too many substitutions today and to leave guys at home because I feel with pre-season the way it has been we are a couple of games short. It cost us in the end but in terms of the effort the players gave maximum and that is all you can ask for.

What did you make of Oliver Skipp?

He has been outstanding. Obviously he didn't have much of a break but since he's been in he's got bags of energy and he uses that really well. He maintains and intensity with and without the ball that makes him hard to contend with. He was outstanding tonight. He got a significant knock early but battled through it and that shows the character of him.

You made changes tonight with a second choice starting XI, Richarlison came in and missed some chances, any concerns there?

There is no first choice, second choice. We needed to get minutes into everyone. Richy has had a bit of a knock and has missed a few days' training. You could see he needed the run. He worked so hard for the team, he was unlucky with his chances but it is really important for us to get 70-75 minutes out of him today and he works so hard.

How does Richarlison playing change the team?

It doesn't really, not in terms of the way we set up. Every player brings their own characteristics to it and that is what we want in the squad. It is not about having like for like, I've never believed that is the way to set up a squad. You want players to provide something different. The basic framework of our game doesn't change and the central striker is still the focal point. He got into good areas and we got the ball into him. Every game we've played the striker has had a decent amount of chances and that is what we need to continue to do.

No Tanguy Ndombele or Joe Rodon tonight, can we read into that that they're not in your plans?

No, it's just the decisions I've got to make. They're a little bit physically behind the rest as well you know. The way we play there's a bit that I need to be strong on and that is that you've got to be at a certain physical level to play this kind of football.

If you're not it does no justice to the player themselves, but there's no doubt that we've got a big squad at the moment and there will be outgoing and those decisions are going to be made by the club and the players themselves. Tonight was about getting minutes into the lads that I felt we needed to be ready come Sunday.

You've got Van de Ven and Veliz in today, what are they going to bring to your squad?

We're really pleased to get them into the squad. Micky van de Ven we've been on to for a while. Just great profile for a centre-back particular for the way we want to play. Physically he's quite commanding and he's got a real presence about him. He's a left-sided centre-back which helps in the structure of the team.

Really ambitious young man. He's only had a year in the Bundesliga. He was at Volendam before that. It's not like he was at a big club before that. He's making strides and hopefully this jump is another one with which we see him really develop.

For us, he's one not just for this year but for the long term that we felt can become a really important part of our team and will be a really excellent defender for us.

With young Veliz, he's one we identified and he's got a lot of talent for a youngster. He's got a great profile. He's a big guy but he's very mobile and he works hard. He's already made an impact in the Argentine first division and again good to have him in.

You said last week you want one or two centre-backs in, so still another one to come in in that position?

Yeah potentially. Again we've got to make sure that we keep the squad manageable and see what happens with outgoings, but yea the potential is there to bring in one more.

Would you like outgoings to be known by the start of the season?

No idea. With the window closing at the end of the month there's still time for these things to happen. From my perspective I'm not too focused on that. That's for the club and the players involved. I give my advice and opinion on it but they're going to be the ones that are driving it.

You said about leaving players like Harry Kane behind, was that just because he needed a rest with Sunday in mind and there's nothing else to be read into it?

No but I'm sure you will. It wasn't about giving the guys a rest. It was that I wasn't going to give them game time so there's no point in them travelling here. They'll train tomorrow and they'll train hard tomorrow. It was just that I wanted to use these two games. Our pre-season wasn't ideal. We had one game cancelled and another game we were supposed to play Roma, so we feel we're a game or two short and we've been using these two games to get as many minutes into the guys as possible and the guys that stayed at home will work hard tomorrow and we got minutes into the guys here today.

How ready do you feel for Sunday and how happy do you feel about where you are in your progress?

It's irrelevant. We've got to be ready. It's not going to wait for us. Come Sunday we need to be ready and we will be.

Have we heard these complaints from Postecoglou? No because he coaches what he has and doesn't implode the team because he wants to trouser as much severance as he can get hold of in the process.

Yup, much more open, more versatile, less stubborn manager, basically a modern coach who understands that he needs to do his job as well and actually coach and improve the fucking players the club buys and not play politics with his bosses and not create this unnecessary divide by claiming that some players were 'club signings'

The protection and organisation of the defence will be just as important as the personnel. That's what Ange has to get right.

Was working pretty well for the first 70mins despite being a B-team back 4..... A much as we can rightly finger-point over the goals themselves; we found ourselves struggling a lot more as the MF began to tire.

Point being; the team still need to defend as a whole and not just rely on CB heroics.

Refreshing to hear a manager defend the assets of this club.

Gazzapen Gazzapen would you rather more of this.

Interesting that Son was an unused sub yesterday. Shows that Ange is willing to leave big players on the bench and maybe that's a fact he particularly wanted Son to understand. Hope he continues to do this in the season if any players form isn't what it should be.

Also like the willingness to play youngsters although too soon to say in pre season.

Conte would have played both Kane and Son last night and played for the 1-0 :contearms:
