Some thoughts on Ange:

> influential in persuading players to sign. Unfortunately the issue there is that it has been a very mixed bag (for every Bergvall, there's a Dragusin). But still, thank you for Bergvall if you did make the difference there.

>talent id in general has been also very mixed - aside from the signings, failing to play Spence for so long looks very poor, despite the spin he puts on it. I give him credit for Solanke.

>he achieved buy-in and loyalty from senior players like Son, Romero and Kulusevski. Of course this is now under significant strain. But vs Bournemouth I could see the players still trying at least.

>the early football had an identity, and one that was in line with Spurs' heritage - attacking football, even if a bit too Ossie Ardiles-like for some. If a good version of Angeball is going to come back, it needs to start very soon. Unsure if its flaws are too deep tactically, or if he can adapt.

>started well with the media, but now feeling the pressure. I do like that he publicly defends the players, unlike some of his predecessors.

I realise any hint of balance/praise for Ange is met with howls of derision on here. It's probably too late for him anyway, too much damage done to recover from. But I think we may as well keep him until summer and reassess then at this point.
Some good points you've made there.

It's likely too late now, but I think the biggest mistake Levy has made this season is not acting on what would have been a great chance to win the EL. Even David Moyes may well have won us the EL

Ange can't adapt - he's out of his depth. I am not ecstatic about any available option right now but it's best for all concerned if he's moved on in the summer. One thing I can promise is that if he's in post at the start of 2025/26 my interest in this club will flatline, and I'm not alone in that.

I just hope we can get a decent option in during the summer because some of our young players have talent and I believe they will progress well under an adept coach.
I'm actually really hopeful this squad can do well under a good coach

I've always said a coach deserves two full seasons as long as he isn't going to get us relegated so you can get a good idea of what he wants. He's getting that and it's plain to see that he isn't really adapting much of his methods to fit the league and more importantly the players he has to work his system. And this will get him sacked..rightfully

That first goal yesterday probably doesn't happen if we had a high energy DM with quite a bit of pace who reads danger well. You'd expect said player to see porro and anticipate the potential for a Bournemouth counter down to the vast amount of space down the right.
Once the ball is given up he'd either utilize his VDV level pace to race to the right to hold up Kerkez, or he'd drop into a back 3 allowing Romero to take up the RB position to stop the cross and Danso to better spread to the left.
It's risky relying on one player to stop you from getting done on counters, something that worked well last season off the back of VDV but you've got to have the players for it, and the depth to cover injury.

Bissouma, and Bentancur aren't natural DMs, don't really read situations, have zero pace, especially Rodri
so we are wide open when the fullbacks push up leaving the back two isolated 3 v2 or 4 v 2 every game

same goes from playing out the back, if they had players of the technical level to do it, sweet we'd have little problems sucking teams in then springing out with superior numbers but we dont spend the kinda money to have those types so it becomes a shambles

same old story for the wide forwards, system seems to demand players on the level of peak son to create the space to create the cross for the opposite wide man and solanke to attack the ball.

we have none of these things and with the league well versed on how we play it's all just collapsing into mush.
and he can't or wont adapt

some interesting high risk ideals but can't see it working with kids and mid table buys in this league

What I noticed more than ever is that their players always seemed to have loads of time on the ball and ours didn’t.

Players were never in the right place. Lots of fans can’t understand it though, so around me were perplexed by it. Just shows how little the average fan gets about football and tactics.

Honestly it was so bad. Today was as bad as I’ve seen it. A decent team would have dispatched that Bournemouth team easily, they were nothing special.
Been saying for at least a year - it's truly mind bending that we get outnumbered so easily at both ends of the pitch.

The crazy thing is that the players were where Ange wants them. He wants that cluttered central area with huge spaces left down our flanks. He wants the wingers so insanely high that there is no point in them even trying to track back because they will never make up the ground.

He thinks that throwing bodies forward with such reckless abandon is the best way to win and the results and performances tells us that is fucking stupid. He has been totally exposed as a football bluffer. No understanding of the game at a serious level. I bet our academy coaches could set the team up more effectively than him.

We were definitely terrible, a real shamles of a performance, but Bournemouth are a very decent team with a great away record.

Bournemouth should have been 3 up with single digits on the clock. They blew us away but didn't get the goals their performance deserved.

That was a great performance. They look like a well coached team, who play with a plan and execute it.

I'm willing to possibly look naive but I am certain that if we put one of Matt Welles or Mason in charge from the staff they'd set us up in a much more stable way.

Welles in particular. He cut his teeth as a assistant to Scott Parker. So the football wouldn't be that free flowing but it would 100% be organised and functional.

thats what happens when the idiot has FB's out of position and the team not fully committed to the press and behind his 'ideas'....for good reason too, his ideas are what youd expect some little 10 year old to come up with on a fifa game.

it also doesnt help if you're meant to press hard from the front 3 and it consists of melts like son and johnson, if the midfield is moving up to back up that press and thats the front line then you can forget it anyway.

i do feel sorry for the midfield in this system and with melts in front of them, they cant win either way. imagine having johnson and son to work with in front of you and FB's getting in your way! football hell!

sorry his ideals are shit and they don't work with anything or anyone which is why no one in the world utilizes this style of play.

That's definitely a part of it. But the biggest single problem for me is the time it takes us to "build up from the back"
We win the ball back, there's 2 or 3 players on the shoulders of the last defenders, but we pull the handbrake up and allow the opposition to get back. We then pass it side to side, back to the keeper, back to the CB, side to side, gradually pushing ALL our players bar maybe one CB into the opposition 3rd. We then try something out of desperation, give the ball away, and, unlike us, the opposition trigger a counter at absolutely break neck speed.
So all our players are in the opposition 3rd, we have a defender or 2 at best on the half way line, and 3, 4, 5 players busting a lung to get at our defence.
It's so easy to do if your team is willing to play the waiting game.

yea, we are the easiest side to play in the league, you just have to work hard against spurs and you'll get golden chances, you do not have to be good!

its the worst idea of a football system ive seen by far! it truly is something you'd expect a little 10 year old to come up with on a football game.
