That's not what Ange is offering. He has never said that cup success is our ceiling and from what we know of Ange he wouldn't stay if he believed that - he left the Socceroos because he didn't feel the infrastructure was there to be competitive at World Cup level, he wasn't content with the Asian Cup and WC qualification and wasn't prepared to manage a team that would only be at the WC to make up the numbers. He wants to stay with us because, in his own words, "the story isn't finished".

We have a chance. We need to decide what we want to be: Australia winning the Asian Cup or Celtic winning the domestic Treble. Ange has already done the former. Are we going to give him the chance to do the latter?
This has been over a thousand times, but winning trophies when you're at Celtic and any knob walking down the street could win the league is different from trying to sustain success in the PL.

We've two years of data showing not only that Ange can't hack it against PL competition, but that things have been getting worse all the time. And you only need to look at the newspaper to see that, if you actually watch the games you can see that he doesn't belong anywhere near this level, he has no tactical ability, our attack is punchless after two full seasons, and we are easily hemmed in by teams that should be well below our level. Players are not developing, we concede every time out and easily, and he steadfastly refuses to change or get better. This cannot go anywhere.

Another year of this is a write off unless you accept a top 10 club in the world in terms of its value is merely a cup team with no higher aspirations.

We defending exceptionally - a clean sheet, in a final, with no creativity, barely any pace.

The game is about more than attacking - I am proud of that performance and what it achieved for us..

I agree with you there but if we were playing a better teams like teams we will be playing in the CL next season or in the premier League (this season too) and play the same we won't fair so well IMO

Yeah, I lean towards this. We knew we were going to struggle to create, so when we went ahead, it was 'sit deep and wait for opportunities'. None came, but it just goes to show how well we defended. It was a valiant effort and Jose was probably spanking himself watching it.

Given our creative injuries heading into the game, if someone offered: 'You get to win, but it's a scrappy goal and you spend the next hour with 11 men behind the ball'. I'd have taken that, 100%.

Gold hasn’t said ange is staying, he’s said a decision is still to be Made. People were losing their shit over a report from one of those wannabe itk Twitter guys with a hundred followers.
I think these people make contrarian predictions without any basis knowing that if they accidentally get it right, people will regard them as some kind of sage and it will boost their following

I watched all the games this season and I'm prepared to back Ange next season as an article of faith. I want to see if the team can push on from the winning mentality we found in Bilbao.

I am aware of the only argument in favor of Ange, the vibes. Perhaps that cup will turn each of these players and this manager into someone whom they are not

Basically the entire managerial career is a long tenure at one club which he lifted out of the Championship to become an extremely small club at the Premier League level, having a burst of remarkable early success with a very small budget (both peaking at exactly 9th place in fact), and then just kind of hanging around as a Cinderella minnow defying gravity, though never reaching European play or making a particularly loud cup run.

So in both cases it's a question of "how does this cuddly little underdog story with a guy who really only knows that environment transfer to a bigger scale?"

There are differences, but broadly it's an extremely similar story and profile.
Similar but very different.
Frank spent 3 years with Brondby, failed miserably and resigned after criticism from the chairman. Got the Brentford job and benefited from clubs close links to FC Midtjylland to earn promotion at 2nd attempt. Has managed to keep club in PL with league finishes of 13th, 9th, 16th and 10th. Not exactly inspiring and no experience of playing midweek European football.
Howe spent 3 years at Bournemouth taking them from League 2 to League 1 before joining Burnley. Struggled and left for personal reasons. Rejoined Bournemouth, got them into the PL, stayed up fir five seasons, got them relegated and fucked off to join Celtic but that fell apart and he eventually joined Newcastle.
In summary, nothing similar at all except they are both 47 and have had success keeping a lower to mid table team in the PL.

Oh wow I had completely forgotten about the Howe to Celtic thing.

And that's how they ended up with Ange. Wheels within wheels.

The biggest misconception about Ange is - he is a manager who does well offensively and not defensively.
If anything it's the other way round - our defense is better than the attack and almost the sole reason we won the EL.

Ange has so far he does not have much of a scooby do how to create a good attacking unit
