The first trophy , and a significant European one , in 17 years ; whatever his role in achieving that ; it affords him a certain status in some people’s eyes .

Obviously not yours . And that’s fine .

You said certainly. Ange is not certainly a legend. Son is certainly a legend.

Ange is a cult hero at best - legend is absolutely horribly offensive to other people who boast that title. We have the actual legend who was there when we won it in Son, we don’t need to give that status to Ange.

I said he was a " flawed " legend; the implication being that he achieved something ( by accident or design) amazing ( in the eyes of many of us ) whilst he also had a fair few of us ( understatement) tearing our hair out ( for one reason or another) on a fairly constant basis .

He left us as a winner despite his ( and our ) several faults and limitations. And that's an achievement in itself .

Yeah mate except you could do the exact same thing with Manchester United and I can tell you now Jose isn’t a United legend. And he won two in a season.

Not sure if you're aware of this but Man United have won a fair few trophies compared to Spurs in the last 40 years.

Normal Spurs fans tend to celebrate winning them. Derangers seem to feel otherwise.

That's why you're on here hating on a trophy winning manager rather than being on the relegation thread apologising for being so catastrophically wrong. 🤷‍♂️

This is always a really rational part of the forum, especially during international breaks

I honestly don't get the hatred from some fans towards Ange.

Spurs had won nothing in 17 years. 1 milk cup in 25 years. 40 years since a european trophy.

Spurs had lost both captains - Harry Kane, who had carried the team for many seasons and Hugo Lloris, a world cup winning goal keeper.

In his first season he finished 5th - with a largely new squad; and a new system of player. Spurs had only finished above 5th ONCE under Jose and Conte. That in itself was a massive achievement - and the list of coaches that take teams to a 5th place premier league finish contains very few (if any) poor coaches.

The 2nd season fell to pieces, largely due to injuries and the coach not being back with experienced players in the summer to progress the momentum. Motivating the team, and winning Europa was a big achievement that deserves respect.

What we know now is that a war was raging in the boardroom, Levy barely spoke to Ange, and the players were unhappy with the club leadership.

Ange really divided us.

I just wish that we had given him 10 games this season. If it fell apart and he was sacked or if he did well and was kept, surely we would have been more united than we are now.

They did when they were playing. Check the stats.

You mean like:

August: Leicester (A) 1-1
Sept: Woolwich (H) 0-1 loss
Oct: Brighton (A) 2-3 loss
Oct: Palace (A) 0-1 loss
Dec: Chelsea (H) 3-4 loss
Apr: Forest (H) 1-2 loss (both came off at HT after we conceded 2 goals with them)
May: Liverpool (A) 2-2

Both playing together: Won 4 drew 2 lost 5. Note that with a pretty much full strength squad, after 9 games when VdV was still fit we'd already lost 4 out of the opening 9 games

Or when Romero played alone:

Sept: Newcastle (A) 1-2 loss
Nov: Ipswich (H) 1-2 loss
Jan: Woolwich (A) 1-2 loss

So I'm not sure what this myth is intending to prove really. With both or even Romero playing, we were just as embarrasing as they have been this season
