Wasn't entirely sure where this best belonged, but it's a fairly interesting write-up on our defending of set pieces in the Leicester game (and a comparison of this with last season) by someone with a far better eye for it than I have. Notably, it would appear that Romero and VDV are engaging in more man marking than zonal marking than during games last year.

Perhaps we may end up being less vulnerable in these situations than before.

We looked better defending corners all pre season and indeed against Leicester.

The free kicks against Bayern were a bit worrying but I am just going to put that down to a makeshift back four playing and bad communication.

Everton however at the weekend will be a good test. They troubled us massively last season from set pieces in both games.

I’m very happy with Ange as our coach and think there has been a huge over reaction because of the result on Monday night

We dominated the game completely bar a 15 minute spell in which Romero left Vardy unmarked and their fans got a lift

If we’d taken more of our numerous chances we’d have won comfortably

The football is great to watch and sets us up to dominate matches, he’s also trying to change the culture of the club, a culture that has been festering for 25 years or so

He needs time, let’s judge him properly at the end of this season, but I for one think he’s the perfect man to take us to where we want to be

How can you say that when he still hasn’t addressed our defensive problems ? No team can win anything with how we let goals in. When its working, offensively it’s great but we simply cannot defend.

Good post.

I genuinely think Ange knows what he’s doing and is a very good coach that will give us the football all Spurs fans crave.

But can he then bridge the gap between playing good football and actually winning trophies? That’s where the ball as ever bounces into our owners court…

I did say the other day I thought we looked a bit better. Although we didnt score from any of the attacking corners there was a bit more variation. I liked the move for the free kick when it looked like Maddison was going to shoot but he squared it long and wind to Johnson instead who then almost scored/created a chance.

If we have 13 points after 12 games at the start of this season, there's going to be serious questions.

The bad 29 games were heavily masked by our fantastic start last year so it didn't feel as catastrophic, but if this season starts as last season ended then we'll be up shit creek.
All I’m hearing is if, if, if, if fuck me mate go have a wank and a Pepsi and enjoy ur day. Ur like so many fans, u will delight rolling in ur own shite. Ur a *I told u so supporter* smug grin and no real depth to u, u will never be happy with the club, ever. It’s honestly pretty fucking sad.

So neggy in here for some of you,
1 game into the season.

Need to give yourself a lil holiday in the sun and find some happiness.

Plenty to be positive about, shit result. The first 45mins was 10-1 shot count, 9-0 corner count.

Bring on Everton, a little bit sharper and get this season going.
Fair weather fans, no real heart in any of them, I’m probably guessing their sandwich of choise is prawn.

I’m no in any way shape or form comparing Postecoglou with Ferguson but his Man Utd career was a slow burner but eventually it paid of …..again we are never in a million years going to go on that journey but in comparison to the last 20years in our squalid history postecoglou can’t do any worse and so far imo I’ve enjoyed his tenure , the style his attitude + the attitude of his squad they obviously like playing for him and it relates when Spurs play I’m all for him and the long game …..

You didn't enjoy the second half of last season, surely?
Over 50% of his tenure so far has been absolutely shite!

I think it’s a thin line with how we play defense. You have to give some time for it to click. It starts from the front the way Liverpools defense always started from the front. When it wasn’t clicking they look leaky defensively. I think he will eventually get the balance right. I wonder if we can afford to have a Madison type defensively tbh. Hopefully our fans can have some patience. It’s super annoying how when we were playing Conte football everyone was clamoring for attack (“I don’t care if we draw 3-3 or 4-3!”) but now that’s it’s here we can’t live with the consequences. We had a bad defense under Conte playing defensively. Our CBs are young and fullbacks not great positionally. This won’t get fixed overnight.

People forget we were getting plastered for 90 minutes under Conte sitting deep, only to lose in added time. Was infuriating, at least now we go into games on the front foot, going toe to toe with anyone.

Problem is we haven't been clicking since 2nd half of last season...

10/1 to be next manager sacked with paddy power. if we dont beat everton hell probably be odds on after the scum.
I would be amazed if Postecoglou were fired before the end of the season. He had three tasks when he was hired. First, get the fans back and settle the unrest. Second, change the style of football and transition the squad. Third, be positioned for top four. So far, he's on track for all three. Unless the wheels fall completely off I think he'll be back for a third season. Besides, I'm not convinced at all that this won't be a successful season.
