Yeah good idea, let's just sack our manager every time we have a bad run, that will definitely lead to long-term success and attract good managers for a long-term project.

:ange-facepalm:.
We ended last season losing to Newcastle, Woolwich, Chelsea, Liverpool and City in our last 7 games.

If we begin this season with 3 losses to rivals it is not looking good.

Ange has to show he has done something to arrest this decline against the top sides.

So we've got Newcastle, Woolwich and United in the next 5 games. Is Ange out if we lose all 3?

No but should he be?

Considering the final few months if last season, it wouldn't exactly suggest that we're heading in the right direction.

The only thing that might save him is that there aren't exactly a plethora of quality managers currently available.

Only two I can think of are both ex-Chelsea and surely we can't do that again!

Unless, it's...

I agree that would not look good at all, and agree that he has to get some results in order to show that we can beat the big sides again, but as I say, if we sack a manager every time they have a bad run, then we'll have a new manager every year and end up going round in circles. Well, more a downward spiral than a circle, as no manager will want to come to us knowing that he will be fired as soon as he loses a few games against the teams we nearly always lose against. Despite necessary talk of wanting instant success, of course all managers actually want (and indeed need) time to mould the squad into what they want, both in terms of personnel and style / attitude, and that typically takes at least a couple of years. As has been said before, if woolwich had fired legohead years ago on any of the numerous occasions when they had a few bad results and the media said he was in danger, where would they be now? I'm not for a moment saying that Ange can or will necessarily achieve similar, I'm just saying that whoever we appoint as our manager, we need to give them at least a couple of seasons before we decide it isn't working, otherwise we are just going round in circles. You do get the odd exception like Nuno, which was obviously a desperate appointment and bad fit from day 1 (and don't even get me started on the pathetic coward Conte), but generally speaking, most successful clubs give their managers a fair crack of the whip rather than knee-jerking. Of course there must be a line - if he lost 10 games in a row then obviously he'd be out - but losing 3 of your first 6 games of the season, and those 3 being against the top sides, is not sufficient for me as it is a line that would probably be crossed pretty much every season at some point.

I generally agree but the the pressure would be immense at that point especially if the games follow a similar trend to last season (4 nil down to Liverpool, 4 down to Newcastle, 3 down to scum at HT).

The problem is i dont think he is great with pressure and becomes a bit prickly. Around the City at home game last season and also that interview when he was Aussie manager i'm not sure how well he'll deal with us getting a load of flak for being mid table, or worse. We just have to hope we pick up some results in the next 6 or 7 games.

Ok so I think we agree on the pressure being immense if that happened, but that doesn't change anything I said in my post. So perhaps there are two answers to your original question "...Is Ange out if we lose all 3?"

- There would certainly be a lot of pressure, and it might ultimately cost him his job if we don't go on a fantastic run immediately afterwards.
- However if those 3 games did cost him his job, then personally I think that would be terrible for the club, it would show that we don't have the stomach to look to the long-term, and would discourage other managers from joining us. All the things in my earlier post.

So it might cost him his job, but it would be disastrous for us if it did.
