If we can’t win anything under Levy apart from a hot streak against all expectations, what’s Ange shown that makes us think he’d ever be able to do that? We can’t string two performances together under him. We’re nothing but consistently inconsistent.

The ‘there’s no one better out there’ idea is strange too. There’s no big name out there unemployed, but we’re on the point of knowing Ange isn’t the man, so where’s the risk in drawing a card from the deck? There’s no assistant out there who might bring a better idea, or at least a bounce for the cup and carry us to summer?

The only tenable argument for Ange is if you think he’s bringing something to this group of players that no one else could and that seems ridiculous at this juncture.

I don't disagree with you, kc. All very fair points. Admittedly I'm clinging a little to the disparate signs of improvement, not aided by a shallow and heavily injured squad. Being a first-gen Aussie probably plays into it too.

At this point, there's three reasons I'm leaning further to Ange Out:
  • his inability to effect timely positive changes (tactically; via substitutions) on game state and force his opposite number to do the same. He's coming across as being very out-of-his-depth and frankly a bit of a coward when it comes to tough decisions.
  • this dunderheaded notion that being an attacking team should come at the expense of proper defensive shape in transitions.
  • the very unlikely scenario where we spend enough on very good to great players to make his stubborn system work.

I wasn't sold on Ange when he came in - resisting the benefit of hindsight, I was hot on Slot and Amorim as tacticians who could work with the sum of their parts, with the pedigree, nous and presence to adapt to a more competitive league. And, elite-tier coaches aside, just about everyone else would make the move for the right price if we gave him the flick.

My vote now is for Iraola.

I'd argue that Gala is a pretty decent team loosely on par with Roma. Lankshear did fine against them and even scored a goal- why would he be any less likely to be successful against Roma? Would you have started him earlier today versus Fulham?

I'm of the opinion that, except in exceptional situations, you need to rotate with respect to health and fitness regardless of whether its convenient vs a particular opponent or not- because that's the level of the squad you actually have. It's no use trying to squeeze blood from a rock.

We have supposedly a professional team off the pitch to evaluate every possible manager out there who can improve us. Brighton do it all the time - not because they sack their managers but because they are small so they'll get poached.

So far, in 20 years, Levy has made 2 good managerial appointments. Redknapp and Poch. And a load of crap ones. in 20 FUCKING YEARS.

Are you saying that in the European leagues there's no one better? Right now I'd take the Brighton manager. The Brentford manager. AFC Bournemouth. I'd take Potter who won't even cost a bean. That's 4 off the top of my head. 3 in jobs who are WAY outperforming all the metrics you can think of, all with experience of the PL which Ange didnt have when we got him.

I want Levy out (wont happen) and I want Ange replaced. And I want some nice things for Xmas.

and this is the reason we need a tactical manager, someone who is not tied to a system,someone who plays oneway this week and a different way next week (because of the team we are playing)

I cannot fathom why people cannot see this . Levy has had a compensation bill that will rival the post office and contaminated blood scandal already, ( joke but people get my point hopefully) , It’s just so pointless. It does not mean it won’t happen as Levy has learned nothing in 26 years imho .

Everyone knows Levy and ENIC are the problem other than a few that are on a windup. If we could sack them tomorrow then happy days but we cant. So we need a pragmatic manager that gets more out of the team than the sum of its parts. Its pretty clear now that isnt Postecoglou. It might well not be the next manager either, probably not given their track record of appointments but we just have to hope to have that lightning in a bottle moment that we hit with Redknapp and Poch. If we got that i'm sure they'd be let down as well and thats the biggest issue in the ENIC era, not sacking managers, its not backing ones that clearly improve us.
 
An Ange team was never going to do anything of note in this league, but let's go all out in the cups and see what we can do there with some luck. I'm not impressed at all, but the summer is probably the best time to replace him.
 
If people want to talk Postecoglou, strange as that seems on the Postecoglou thread then fine. Why there is a need, other than when Levy pulls the trigger to mention his name I don't know.

I don't think Postecoglou is out of his depth as some suggest but neither as some have said do I think he is doing anything more than a lot of managers out there could do with this group of players.

I view all managers in 3 ways.

1. Do they change the mentality of the players. I don't see it.

2. Do they provide a way of playing and also show tactical acumen to play differently when necessary? For me that's a no.

3. Can you see player improvement, if not necessarily that of the team? No.

But Postecoglou has done okay so far. 5th last season when we should have finished 4th and so far 7th.

Unless there is a calamity I think he stays until summer but I also think there is minimal risk in replacing him with someone else of renown or objective competence.

Unless Levy is going to America to personally beg Pochettino to come back and apologise for not treating him right I don’t see the point of sacking Ange. All comments on Irola, Potter and Frank just make me laugh. We are a horrible club to manage, Irola would probably be crying into his cap after 18 months with us and the fans wanting him out.

Pochettino has his flaws but when it comes to improving players he is a one off. Last season Chelsea where a shambles, by the end of of the season they won five in a row and their kids looked fixed, Mascara inherited a fixed Chelsea due to Pochettino. There is no manager better at upgrading young players and that is what we have young players.

There's Pioli who left Milan in the summer. But he's working in the middle east now.

He took a bunch of scrappy kids and the odd veteran and turned them into Serie A winners. In even more restrictive circumstances than here.
 
AP is a man motivator, a "Bravado-ist". He not a tactician, he's not a hands on coach, he just seems to rely on his efforts to instill self-belief in players with his defiant words/phrases. At this level that's far too basic.
I think he has been found out and had we not had the start we had when he first arrived in 2023, then I think he would already be gone!
