This is entirely speculative. Who cares?

Nothing more speculative than you thinking that dismissing the cups and focusing on the league sets you up for long term success, it's not even speculative - it's bullshit - there's literal evidence of your scenario playing out unsuccessfully for many years, it's delusional.

I'm genuinely finding the unflattering support this absolute fraud has grossly more irritating than him himself now.

Literally any other manager would have been hounded out last season.

This is as good as it gets. From here on in, any talent left will leave. Our ambition for the season will be to stay up.

And you fucks will still be worshipping him because we can spank a shit team once every so often.

That is the reason I can't commit to the Ange-out train yet. The players are clearly not downing tools.

I remain Angenostic but we're not in a normal situation right now. I have never, in four decades, felt so conflicted about a manager.
I’m also in this state of flux.
He’s trying hard.
The players are trying hard.
But is all about results and trying hard isn’t good enough.
He looked a broken man in the post match presser, repeating himself without bringing himself to explain exactly what he was repeating himself about.
We gave it a good go in the second half but gifting goals with constant kamikaze “playing from the back” will be his undoing because after 18 months the players should “get it”. Even with a fully fit squad they don’t get it a lot of the time. The defence is constantly putting itself under pressure. At the minute it’s too high risk for too little reward.

Nah, when you make a terrible business decision like that, you write it off and move on asap. His terrible misses today just shows the world that this guy can't even finish from a few yards out to save the man who bet the house on him.

You think he's fooling anyone with this BJ nonsense. He's just hurting the team. He is no wizard and he's not going to make BJ look good.

Apart from BJ, I think Ange lacks defensive and tactical acumen. It feels like it's always our team that is getting outsmarted. Guys at this level are usually good but Ange was a gamble. He'd never competed against the best. His champions league and record in Europe really sucks. He's just not a very smart guy. Levy is not very smart for picking him and now he's probably too embarrassed to cut the loss. But even Levy must have his limits. I wouldn't be shocked to see Ange sacked tomorrow.
Cut your loses and move on? You know what club you support yeah? You realise we're in a painful rebuild and in need of players in quite a few positions.

I agree, if you're a big club you write off the financial loss and act straight away but that absolutely isn't on Ange - it's on the board and ownership.

The rest of what you wrote was difficult to get through because it's absolute nonsense. Ange was and is on the up before getting here. He's setting us up for the future and creating an ethos we simply haven't had since Pochettino left.

Sometimes you have to go backwards before you can move forward.

Going backwards all the way to the championship.

That's worth much more than finishing 6th or just merely focusing on the league because the league doesn't really get you anywhere and it doesn't set you up for long term success especially as this club.
For me, league position is irrefutable demonstration of performance across 38 games. It’s the gold standard of performance in a given time period. It also demonstrates how likely we would be to actually win the FA cup. If we aren’t doing well in league we’re just not going to be more likely to win the FA cup- FACT.

Cups are flukes because you can have results not in line with probability over short timeframes, like a single knockout game for example. A successful CL run is a unique thing of beauty though because everyone typically wants to win it beyond any other objective. It always has genuine competing competition, and the best of it, in the later rounds.

I get that you feel you need a minor cup win to help you cope with others’ criticism of us as cup-less losers. I don’t really care either way though- I think if we focus on excellence generally instead, the cup wins will eventually come.

I take Ange over Jose and Conte every day of the week.

All miserable fuckers but at least Ange is a positive miserable fucker.

Now we have the worst injury/availability crisis and run of results in years...
Oh, I thought last year was down to the worst injury/availability crisis and run of results in years?

Is this going to be the excuse next season, too?

Save it, I was there when Wolves completed their sweep of us last season. We didn't have a single player unavailable. 71% possession and couldn't beat a team that finished 14th.

After 31 Jan last season, Villa was the only teams in that finished in the top half that we beat. After that match on 10 March, we only beat clubs that finished 17th and worse. Who was injured? No one.

That "second run" you say dudu dudu has pointed out? From 10 Dec-10 March, only includes wins over clubs who finished:
7th (Newcastle)
17th (Forest)
15th (Everton)
12th (Bournemouth)
16th (Brentford)
11th (Brighton)
10th (Palace)
4th (Villa)

It also includes losses against:
11th (Brighton)
14th (Wolves)

And draws against:
8th (United)
15th (Everton)

So it was basically the easiest run of fixtures I can ever remember us having in the league. And he still dropped 10 points then closed it out by getting thumped heavily by Fulham.

Ange is a fraud. I know it. He knows it. His missus probably knows it.

And what makes you think Ange is the man do lead the change? What has he actually done in his career apart from winning in Scottland with Celtic.

What makes you think he's good enough for this level? It can't be his point average of 1.20 this season.

It's not difficult.

He comes across as quite a dour man at times (although I like how he deals with the media) but he's never really thrown anyone under the bus. Not really looked to blame others. Often said that the buck stops with him. Tries to play attacking football.

Compare that with Jose and Conte during their spells here. Absolutely no room for anyone else under the bus with those two.

Yeah my bad for calling you a loser, I know where you're coming from even if I don't agree.

I totally get your point by the way but I'm merely talking about this season anyway, this is a pretty simple either or discussion and for me one takes priority over the other at this stage. I just don't see how anyone would want to throw away our best opportunity of winning a trophy for the sake of a respectable league position.

And the thing is you say winning the cups are flukes then doesn't that just solidify my point, you don't necessarily need to be the best team in the cup to win, so saying we have no chance of winning it is just a complete contradiction.

I don't need a minor cup to make me feel better, it's not for me - the club, the players, the fans would 100% benefit of winning a cup (no matter what it is) - that is irrefutable.
