Fuck me if he lost all 3 and still survived to manage against United then this club would be an absolute laughing stock.
Again, I think Levy desperately wants to retain him.

And I think the feeling inside the club is that he's been given no chance to succeed amid the injury crisis.

It's the shittiest possible timing that the two cup games come immediately before all the reinforcements come back, but there we are.

(The situation is in fairness a LITTLE better now. Depending heavily on how many minutes VDV can responsibly play. Finally a rest for Porro tomorrow, surely)

Even that has limits. If we exited two cups AND were marooned in 16th with 17th at our tails there’s no way Levy doesn’t panic. There has to be a point of no return.

I still think it's either about cups or about lack of any viable alternatives willing to inherit this mess mid season. But IF it's neither, then I'm inclined to think that Levy's clinging on to him as his next miracle worker a la Pochettino. It also aligns more or less perfectly with what some people here expect from Ange, so the notion of Levy thinking along similar lines isn't far fetched.

The obvious question is why. Why him, and not anybody else? Did Levy fall in love with him during that magical 10 match spell, and now refuse to let those fond memories go? That's the antithesis of how Levy usually operates. Is it Ange's captivating aura as this know-it-all ideologue who also happens to be very modest in his demands, in total contrast to Mourinho and Conte? A low maintanence manager is always welcome to any chairman, and Ange in particular certainly knows how to talk the talk, but I doubt that these would be enough to keep Levy calm after everything that has happened in the last couple of months. 1 point from 7 league matches, getting outplayed by relegation fodders in the process, dropping to relegation zone are all extremely difficult to swallow, no matter how you look at it.

Like I said, chances of him getting the boot after Liverpool or Villa are substantial. But if he somehow avoids it, and in fact starts the next season as well, what I outlined above based on Levy searching for another Pochettino might be a plausible explanation.

I agree, I guess we're just haggling over one game as to where that point lies.

I can see some logic in wanting a new manager to start with free-ish hit vs United rather than Ipswich which would in this hypothetical scenario be a proper scrap of a six pointer. There's an open week before each.

It's just such a tough scenario and the sequence of various events could not be worse.

I think it’s more to do with there being very few other options. Poch went, he had Jose. Jose went, he had his gimp Mason. Nuno went, he had Conte. Conte went he had his gimp Mason.
Now, he’ll get slaughtered if he goes with Mason again and there isn’t as yet a viable alternative.
Don’t forget how hard it’s been to find managers. Neither Ange or Nuno were first choice appointments, the search for them was pretty farcical.
