On VDV and Romero not playing last night but playing on Sunday:

“There a chance. When I saw the pitch the night before I pretty much made up my mind I wasn’t going to risk them last night.

"It wasn’t a great pitch, it wasn’t steady underfoot and it wasn’t a game where I thought I needed to expose them.

"But a couple of extra days’ training and recovery, and hopefully both are in line to feature.”

Don't remember Ipswich example clearly but Villa game Porro was up the pitch. They only had to wait 30 seconds to get in behind and hurt us!
Ipswich was identical. Delap was looking for the space where Porro shouldve been and got in behind, decent shot good save. 2 mins later the same thing, decent shot, just missed the far post.

proves we learnt absolutely nothing from the Villa shitshow.

not that we shouldve had to learn anything. Away to a pl team in the cup? Keep it tight for the first 15 at least.

we can hardly keep it tight for 15 seconds

2 games without a goal when we've nearly all our attacking options available has made me realise its just never getting better under him. We take crazy risks in every game but still don't look like scoring. Doesn't add up. Balance is all wrong and we can't blame injuries or fatigue anymore.

Have to call a spade a spade. Its not about taking sides and being right. All the evidence is there now and he's ran out of excuses.

Trust me I'll be as positive as I can be whenever I get the chance, but right now there is little to be positive about and clutching at straws to just wind up certain posters isn't the solution and makes us as bad as them if not worse.

Angeball should come with a health warning.
He’s taking out people left and right.

Starks, shady. Now you. We need a monument to the fallen.

Luckily I’m on the tipping point between brave, stupid and crazy so I can ride this ship till it sinks!!

It’s his second season!!! He wins shit!! It’s what he does.

Somehow. :angesmile2:

It will be interesting to hear what the next manager thinks about the state of the squad he inherits, whether that be low moral, ill discipline tactically , under/badly coached etc.

It would have been harsh sacking him after finishing 5th although given where we were after beating Villa we really should have got 4th. But you could see the direction of travel. Said at the time both Hoddle and Ramos had terrible ends to a season and it just carried on into the next season. At least both of those were gone by October. Potecoglou needed a good start to the season with a fairly comfortable set of fixtures and we didnt get it. Ipswich at home was the time to sack him, it was obvious at that stage he wasnt of the required quality. But we limped on. How he survived after the Everton/Leicester games is total negligence.
its madness hes stayed this long, only a fool would think he was going to come good, the evidence all pointed towards him being a charlatan.

i genuinely think levy has got suckered in to the "i win things in my second year" loooool. what a fucking dumb cunt!

Just get rid and let's start the fruitless cycle of shite all over again...

That's not me saying we shouldn't get rid of him, we definitely should, whether it's before or after our inevitable pitiful exit out of the EL next Thursday, who cares.

Ok, but on top of reacting to others, I'd just like to point out few things that really annoy me.

Tactical work and instructions, well actually LACK of it - just look at yesterdays game. How many times did our wingers and fullbacks actually take on their player? Like really tried to go past them? In first half, I am not even kidding, I think Kevin Danso (!) completed more take-ons than Son. Come on, we DO KNOW he is capable of doing it. Why is he not instructed, basically FORCED to do it. Cause we fucking need it.
Other thing regarding tactical work is practice and patterns of how to speed up the tempo of the game. I think everyone who watched the game saw how AZ side was creating space within our half with one touch passing. By moving the ball on with rapid pace. WHY DO WE NEVER DO IT anymore? Literally there was 8 days between games. Are we seriously suggesting that our players are technically poorer than what AZ has to offer?!? Or is it about coaching.

No lessons learned from previous games - alright we had to do without Solanke and Kulusevski - two of the physically strongest options in the frontline. At the same time, we had options in the midfield. We had both - Bissouma and Sarr on the bench. We did not manage to properly control the ball in opposition half. It can happen with front-line of Son-Tel-Johnson. So why the fuck not make an alteration. Don't start with trio that cannot do it. I don't support rushing half-fit players back. So why not start with 2 #6 players. Add Bissouma to the side, give Madders higher role in the field behind Son and Tel for example?!? Johnson performance yesterday couldn't have come as surprise, could it ?!?!

No in-game management whatsoever- yesterday the game started poorly. Like really awfully if we are being honest. And it was a play-off game in European competition. We NEED RESULTS, but what was Ange doing throughout first half? How did he help the side? How did he impact the proceedings of the game? In absolutely no way. He just sat there and took it. It's pathetic. YOU fucked the tactics and the lineup up. It is on YOU to then make alterations ffs.

All in all we look like absolutely uncoached side.
After having had 8 days to prepare for the game (!).
And having normalized injury situation (no, not perfect, but which team has it perfect at the start of March)?

He is running out of excuses.
If similar performance happens again in reverse fixture and we are out of the cup, it is time to say farewell right after the game finishes. If we turn it around in return fixture, then let's keep him on. Unfortunately it is too late for very big turnaround anyway.

Tactically outclassed tonight. Our players looked very bad because AZ was perfectly prepared and closed all passing lanes through all over the pitch. They exploited all our buildup weaknesses.

Basically we were playing with 7 guys in possession since front 3 was completely isolated. Our midfield had absolutely no passing options. And we didnt change anything during the game.

It was obvious to us watching the match wasnt it?

Players are obviously fed up with it too, those with any experience are anyway.

Who gives a real fuck what happened with Wenger at Nagoya? He went there for the money and was always gonna be a short deal. As much as I hate the man, he was an unreal manager and that showed at the cunts down the road.

Ange could live til 268yo, he'd never achieve 10% of what Wenger did.

I wasn't talking about Ange.

Does seem that people will even resort to praising wenger if it means an opportunity to take another dig at our current manager tho.

Whether or not he will be or should be our manager for long, that doesn't sit right with me. I'll never praise anything about those cunts, even if I don't like one of our players or coaches.

I think he's been completely shocked by the tactical level of detail within the premier league. Even the details team put into set pieces completely threw him last year! We never adopted to set pieces at all last year and needed a full Summer pre-season to get up to speed with other teams in the league.

Now teams just sit on us and wait for our two full backs to be out of position before jumping on us. This has been a key trend in all our games this season yet we keep walking into the same traps every week. I like his style and the idea of the full backs joining the attack, but they need to move the ball fast as soon as they are out of position and hurt teams. Not just have everyone out of position and then moving the ball slow and sideways. Basically all risk and no reward. We end up with just the 2 centre backs behind the ball and all other 8 outfield players up the pitch standing still. We never look like scoring in this shape and then all it takes is one misplaced pass for the other team to immediately have a 2v2 or a 3v2 in oceans of space.

Every team is happy to let us have the ball. We probably average 70% possession a game but its only because there is a clear blue print to beating us. The only way this style works is if we are aggressive and direct as soon as we get the ball and find our full backs in space getting in behind. Once you make that sideways pass the attack is over and all of a sudden your whole shape is gone and the other team are just waiting for you to make a mistake in possession. There was a great example yesterday in the first half where we broke on them quickly and had 3v3, Tell turned around and passed it back, all of a sudden we are back to the 2 centre backs passing it sideways and everyone else up the pitch standing still. No danger, no ideas but one misplaced pass and they are in!

Thanks! Amen!
Exactly this.

We are trading off decent shape and mostly for what?
Everyone reading, please do not fall off your chair. But... Udogie has played now 2020 minutes this season.
And as a result has participated in ONE GOAL.
Yes. ONE SINGLE GOAL ACROSS 2000+ MINUTES.

Just take that in for a second.

Of course, you have to take risks in football. But rewards should outweigh the risks.
Just this one stat proves - there is absolutely no reward how we play. But fucksake there are risks. Plenty of.

I'm sure there is a sweet spot where the pitch is just right, we've had the optimal rest time, and all of the players are fit, plus the Sun is in the cusp of Uranus.
The stars align and this shower of shit will actually put a decent 90 minutes in against half decent opposition.

If we are lucky aye...
