I supported him for a long time. Liked a lot of what he was doing. Liked that he wants to play attacking football, and his intent to stick to plan A at all times. I love that he dares to speak out against VAR.
However, the football we are playing is simply shit. You can say we are where we are because of injuries. I am not so certain we are.
I saw PSG vs Liverpool the other day. That was quality players playing mostly quality football. It was very clearly different from what we see from Spurs. The way we lose the ball trying to play out of defence, time and time again, screams lack of quality both in how we are set up to play and how the players solve the situations they are in.
When we are lucky enough to break through the press, it looks random. When we get close to the opponent box, we seem clueless, and players look scared to take any sort of responsibility.
It's not like we are unlucky when we lose. Like we lack the margins. No, we are simply significantly worse than our opponents in most games. I would say that we have been lucky more than unlucky with results compared to quality of play.
We simply play like a bottom half team, and fully deserve to be where we are.
I would love it if Ange was succeeding. When we had Mourinho I wished for him to fail, because I think he is a manager who damages football in general, the club he manages, and the players that plays under his leadership. Ange I think could do the opposite.
But it just is not working. The football is dreadful. Some blame has to go to those that built a squad that is reliant on Son and Solanke and Johnson as a front trio. I am not sure anyone could get near top 4 with this group of players. But it should be possible to do a lot better than we are doing this season.
