Covering 25 seasons (from 1999/2000 to 2024/2025), assessing whether the current 2024/2025 season, with 15 losses after 29 matches as of March 17, 2025, is on track to be Tottenham Hotspur’s worst in terms of Premier League losses over that period.
To determine if the 2024/2025 season is the one with the most losses for Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League over the last 25 years, we need to compare their current record with historical data from the 1999/2000 season through 2023/2024. As of today, March 17, 2025, Tottenham have lost 15 matches in the Premier League after 29 games, with 9 matches remaining in the season.
Tottenham’s Losses in the Premier League Over the Last 25 Seasons
Below is a summary of Tottenham’s losses per season in the Premier League from 1999/2000 to 2023/2024, based on historical records, followed by the current season’s status:
1999/2000: 13 losses (10th place)
2000/2001: 13 losses (12th place)
2001/2002: 14 losses (9th place)
2002/2003: 14 losses (10th place)
2003/2004: 16 losses (14th place)
2004/2005: 10 losses (14th place)
2005/2006: 7 losses (5th place)
2006/2007: 11 losses (5th place)
2007/2008: 13 losses (11th place)
2008/2009: 15 losses (8th place)
2009/2010: 9 losses (4th place)
2010/2011: 10 losses (5th place)
2011/2012: 10 losses (4th place)
2012/2013: 8 losses (5th place)
2013/2014: 11 losses (6th place)
2014/2015: 11 losses (5th place)
2015/2016: 5 losses (3rd place)
2016/2017: 4 losses (2nd place)
2017/2018: 7 losses (3rd place)
2018/2019: 12 losses (4th place)
2019/2020: 11 losses (6th place)
2020/2021: 12 losses (7th place)
2021/2022: 11 losses (4th place)
2022/2023: 14 losses (8th place)
2023/2024: 11 losses (5th place)
2024/2025 (as of March 17, 2025): 15 losses after 29 matches (position TBD)
Analysis
Current season (2024/2025): 15 losses after 29 matches, with 9 games left to play.
Worst historical record over 25 years: 16 losses in the 2003/2004 season (full 38-match season).
Tottenham’s highest number of losses in a single Premier League season over the last 25 years is 16, recorded in 2003/2004, a season where they finished 14th. The 2008/2009 season saw 15 losses, matching their current tally, but that was across a full 38-match campaign. This season, with 15 losses already after only 29 matches, Tottenham are on pace to potentially exceed both of these marks. If they lose just one more game in their remaining 9 fixtures—which seems plausible given their recent form, including a 2–0 defeat to Fulham on March 16, 2025—they will tie the record of 16 losses. Two or more additional losses would set a new high for the 25-year period at 17 or greater.
Looking at their recent performance trends and the challenges under Ange Postecoglou’s management, it’s reasonable to expect at least a couple more defeats before the season ends, especially with tough fixtures likely remaining against top teams.
Conclusion
As of now, the 2024/2025 season is already tied with 2008/2009 for the second-most losses (15) in the last 25 years, and it’s just one loss shy of the all-time high of 16 from 2003/2004. With 9 matches left, it is highly likely that this season will become Tottenham’s worst in terms of Premier League losses over the past 25 years if they drop even one more game—and very possibly the worst if they lose two or more. Thus, yes, this season is on track to be their most defeat-laden campaign in the league since at least 1999/2000.
This analysis assumes their form doesn’t dramatically improve in the final stretch, which, based on current reports and fan sentiment, seems unlikely.
How about the entertainment factor?

I don't know much about Frankfurt but if we go thru, will be tough against Rangers/Athletic and don't think we have winners in the final if we get there.
Andy Brassell was saying we have a decent chance of beating Frankfurt, then it would be Bodo or Lazio

I actually think Bodo knock them out, Lazio lost 5-0 to Bologna on Sat.

THEN it would be Bilbao/Rangers/Lyon/United

9million or 8million release clauses putting Spurs off from getting a decent manager. That’s chump change when you consider we spunked £60m on Richy and only slightly less on Johnson
Yeh but can either Frank or Silva do this?

not the point i accept but 12 losses in 18/19 and finishing 4th is interesting

We are forfeiting EL with this guy still here.

Classic Levy. Dont want to pay money for sacking Ange, dont want to pay money for bringing in replacement now. And dont see that its just probably only some fraction of cost of us not being in Europe next year. Not even mentioning money we will lose because of low position in the league.

When it comes to sacking and paying managers Levy is anything but cheap.

Conte was on 15M a year.

Yes, he is not cheap when it comes to pay wages of current manager.

But any other cost (severance package, release clause) - this is something he obviously hates and will try to minimize or even avoid it. Hence Mourinho sacking before final or not paying clause for Slot.

The lowering of standards and expectations at this football club is embarrassing to see.

As supporters we shouldn’t tolerate it, something seriously needs to be done now, we have to start some form of movement that will force change. Levy has to be made to feel uncomfortable because this seriously is not good enough.

Keeping Ange here is beyond reason or logic, I am sorry but it shouldn’t be accepted under any circumstances at this point.
Before Ange the standards were very high. Overall fans were ok with with Jose being sacked before the final, fans were ok with Conte being sacked while in 4th pos in the league. We demanded better management and better football while also wanting Levy out.

Now 15 minutes of dominance out of 90 is good enough? On track for 20 losses but being safe from relegation is progress? It's only been 20 months and the mood has gone from demanding success to being afraid of change. A successful mentality starts from the leadership and at Spurs it has to come from the manager because Levy only has eyes on his bank account.

Poch believed we could succeed, and we believed too. Jose expected success and we expected it too. Conte demanded success and we demanded it too. Ange believes we're not good enough and now look where we are - Ange mate, you're not good enough, no where near it. Can't wait to get a leader with belief, passion and a demand that we succeed again, when we do the fans will shift their mentality back as fast as Ange has destroyed it.

I wonder if we could somehow arrange for Levy to be launched, head first, into the side of Joe Lewis' yacht, sinking them both to the bottom of the ocean.

I'm in a minority perhaps but I believe the Mourinho signing was the right thing, even the timing. We'd just lost to Zagreb with a manager in prison, he'd lost the dressing room Lloris exploded in an interview after the game for me it was a last gasp effort to get a new manager bounce for the final. we'd also been smashed 4-1 by City about 3 weeks earlier, this "Jose would have won" is a myth to me, but we'll never know

Dunno the full story with Slot, I read he wanted one more year at Feyenoord to lead them in the CL.

Great post.

Backs up what I said the day he got the job. He was appointed simply as a means do drag the expectations of the fanbase into the sewer.

So much so that a season finishing 5th, with no cup runs, no European football and once again NO silverware was viewed as a success by the overwhelming majority of supporters.

A wet dream for Daniel Levy

No other Big 6 club or fans of a club of comparative size or wealth would have viewed such a season as a success.

It's pathetic.

Our fans deserve this season of absolute minging shit for accepting such low standards to begin with.

We reap what we sow
