Management Ange Postecoglou

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

No professionalism in his comments whatsoever. I understand he's trying to play down the sacking stories, but there's a way to say these things. He knows he's a dead man walking but he's still got 25 players he needs to keep motivated for the job. We've got a chance at a European semi final ffs, keep your head down, the comments to a minimum and get the fucking job done.

How does he seem a good bloke. To me he seems like a complete and utter arsehole. He constantly puts us down as a club more than Conte did. He has got in more direct arguments with fans than any other manager. On top of the constant passive aggressive behaviour is disgusting.

The worst of worst it is never about winning but playing the way we play

You said it, mate.

How can you say that "he seems like a good bloke" when he hears "you don't know what you are doing" by fans during Chelsea game. Then our subbed-in player scored a goal he was cupping his hand towards away supporters (so DIRECTLY at the people who are paying his wages). Goal gets (correctly) turned over by VAR.

And now comes first part - after game in press conference, he just spouts total fucking garbage like
"Oh, I've learned the lesson, I will not celebrate a goal again" and "I just wanted fans to make some noise to support the team".

How can you even live so long in this world and have no fucking self awareness and accountability? I really don't get it.
This all is sign of a pathetic and despisable man.

Hear me out.....

Martin Jol is the most important manager we've had since the 80's
We could almost, if we're talking purely PL years, date Spurs as BJ and AJ (Before Jol and After Jol)
BJ was perennial mid table dross. After Jol, until this season, the expectation has been to at least challenge for top 4.
I agree with this. I'm 32 so only really became a full blown fan around 2002. Jol was the manager that made me go all in. My first time feeling absolute outrage supporting spurs was that Pedro Mendes goal at Old Trafford what was never given. Hard to believe that was over 20 years ago now! Jol was brilliant. I'd have him up there with Harry and Poch for the impact he had on the club. Only those 3 managers can really say they left the club in a better place then before they took over.

And I would wager that our away fans are the noisiest in the PL and deserve better from that tosser!

Lol

Then again, he was sacked after MW32 - same as where we're at now.
He'd "only" lost 10 and we were 7th, and most of those losses came against decent teams.
I'd happily deal on this. Especially with the unconvincing alternatives.

...but on what planet is this ever going to happen?! Literally the only reason I can think of is that DL wants a manager who will keep Spurs in the PL and also wind up a large majority of the fanbase at the same time.

I actually think he could do very well without Amazon filming everything.

not playing Gareth Bale with Kane and Son together as long as they were fit was good enough reason to sack him tbh

I would be laughing crying screaming all at once. And then we sign werner on a perm and I take a break from football:)

This is a top post... I loved BMJ... I think it's spot on that you immortalised in the biblical sense with the BJ/AJ reference.

I also think there's probably only been 2 managers that had a genuine affinity with the fans and vice versa. Jol and Poch. Possibly a few more fans were ready to "let" Poch go with us struggling so badly but it's close.
I don't believe there is a genuine affinity with Ange. I think it's a bizarre cult like movement. People with a very weak state of mind have fallen into a brainwash trap and they have, en masse, convinced themselves he's something that he's not.

Alasdair Gold said this in his latest article, but didn’t name any names. I haven’t got the stomach to watch Ange’s press conference yesterday. Anyone know who he’s talking about?

Postecoglou's relationship with the media is also interesting to watch. He is often on good form with some of the regulars he sees each week and he won't leap on a question he doesn't like regardless of the current situation, yet with some others he clearly has decided they're not for him.

It might be because of an article written that he felt was an attack on him - he says he doesn't read things and then at other times admits he does - or a couple of questions in the past that he believed were unfair. Either way, the way he deals with it publicly is not particularly subtle and it lingers.

All top level managers can be prickly at times, it's the nature and the stress of the job amid the media glare and one reporter in particular has noticeably been getting short shrift from Postecoglou with terse, brief, bare-minimum answers to valid questions in press conferences in recent months.

It's an uncomfortable thing to watch, predictable each week and shows that for all of the 59-year-old's bluster about not being affected by the stresses of Premier League management, it does understandably get under his skin at times. He is only human after all, but then so are the people asking him the questions and doing their job as well.”

My guess is Jonathan Liew from the Guardian. They've clashed a few times but Liew is massive Woolwich window licker who hates Spurs so no surprise. I know there is no love lost between Ange and Patrick Davison from Sky... it's probably easier to name the journalists / reporters that Ange does like than the one's he don't.

anyway, nevermind. It is all close to being over now one would expect. Nothing we can do about it now. Let's just say it's a lesson learned. Maybe next time THFC will plump for someone who is less of a chatterbox.

i could tell he was irritated by the Solanke question, reporter asked him about Dom's lack of scoring. Ange response was very blunt and he looked visibly annoyed by it and moved onto the next question quickly

That was Jay Harris from the Athletic. Bloke asked Van De Ven a snide question as well. He is like Ange and probably knows he's off the Spurs beat next season, so just firing off anything to get a reaction. Either that or he's decided Ange is a goner so anything is game.

End of the day, win games and they generally write good things and ask good questions, lose games and they look for angles. With Spurs it's slightly different because the negativity sells more than the positivity so they tend to look for angles even when you are winning but it doesn't really matter if you keep winning.
