Sure, as would every other team that has had injuries. So it wouldn’t make much difference.

Until Ange can invent a way to prevent his first choice players getting injured he’s always going to be making the same excuse.

This squad has lots of issues, but on paper its no comparison with Frankfurt. I don't care where they are in the BuLI, Union Berlin got top 4 there last season. We won due to a coherent team performance (which this guy can't manage week to week) and individual ability.

None of the teams Ange has beaten in the EL this season have been any side we shouldn't be expected to beat. We CAN win this competition but it won't be because of his star management, its because in cups players will and do play beyond week to week coaching.

Uh huh, there have certainly been no instances of Tottenham being knocked out of domestic or European cups by teams of a similar or lesser quality to Frankfurt, because football is just played paper and the players simply step up on their own accord, go out there and wing it against any non-superior opposition and always progress through such fixtures, amirite?
 
The players stood up for themselves and the club. I can only be happy about that.

Winning this thing is bigger than Ange. He shouldn't come into the thinking one way or the other.

Ange will be a small note in Spurs history believe it or not. Winning this cup will be a bigger note. Lets frigging do it!

Yawn.

This is all we have to play for. Most of our exits vs "lesser" opposition recently were due to us playing bigger competitions at the time. This is all the team have - they put everything on the line due to this. Today wasn't the sign of some unbelievable tactics from the coach FFS, we beat Frankfurt not PSG.

Ange gets fuck all credit. He has led us to 15th place in the league. Us salvaging a crumb of comfort by progressing past teams everyone would expect us to progress past if he hadn't lowered the expectations so badly doesn't mean he deserves a clap on the back. Fuck him. Hopefully the players get us over the line despite him.

And he can go back to believing he's some elite coach and telling everyone he always wins in his second season.

Playing Devil's Advocate for shits and giggles - the back 5 he started tonight (and in the 1st leg) which attracted many negative comments - has a winning % that would have us safely in Top 4 in the league.

Like, literally, when he has his preferred back 5 we win. A lot. We just have never had that back 5 playing together because of injury/suspension whatever. Now that might be his fault to a certain extent - or a huge extent - but from his perspective he'd just be looking at that and thinking "this is what we achieve when we have fit squad".

And I'm not sure he's wrong to think that. I would if I was him.

So while I think he's very very lucky to still be in a job - I also think he's not a "slimy bastard" who "thinks he's a martyr". From his POV he's taken Spurs to two Cup semi-finals during an injury ravaged season. And I think that's a fair POV from his perspective.

Isn't it? Like set aside your hatred for a moment and try and look at it from his POV. If YOU had taken Spurs to two semi-finals with all our injuries wouldn't YOU think it was somewhat of an achievement?

Especially as I'm sure you don't think very highly of a lot of our squad? I can check if you want?

None of which is to say he's a good coach. Just that your invective is perhaps... a little OTT?
