Playing Devil's Advocate for shits and giggles - the back 5 he started tonight (and in the 1st leg) which attracted many negative comments - has a winning % that would have us safely in Top 4 in the league.

Like, literally, when he has his preferred back 5 we win. A lot. We just have never had that back 5 playing together because of injury/suspension whatever. Now that might be his fault to a certain extent - or a huge extent - but from his perspective he'd just be looking at that and thinking "this is why we achieve when we have fit squad".

And I'm not sure he's wrong to think that. I would if I was him.

So while I think he's very very lucky to still be in a job - I also think he's not a "slimy bastard" who "thinks he's a martyr". From his POV he's taken Spurs to two Cup semi-finals during an injury ravaged season. And I think that's a fair POV from his perspective.

Isn't it? Like set aside your hatred for a moment and try and look at it from his POV. If YOU had taken Spurs to two semi-finals with all our injuries wouldn't YOU think it was somewhat of an achievement?

Especially as I'm sure you don't think very highly of a lot of our squad? I can check if you want?

None of which is to say he's a good coach. Just that your invective is perhaps... a little OTT?

No. He's fucking awful. If I had this squad available and managed to be 2 points ahead of 17th in the premier league I'd be embarrassed to call myself a manager. You could literally appoint a man off the street and achieve a similar league result. It's shameful. Injuries or not.

Cups are cups. They are very lottery based, they are unpredictable, and very bad managers have some good cup results. I already mentioned Di Matteo (who won a cl + fa cup double literally via vibes) and there are lots of others. Amorim, who has a fucked up squad and is doing terribly, is also in to a semi final.

I'd also be very embarrassed to toot my horn for getting in to a semi final, winning the first leg and then coaching a total non-entity of a second leg performance where my team got smashed 4-0.

If anyone thinks Ange deserves to be proud of himself because we beat AZ Alkmaar and Frankfurt, they are having an absolute giggle. The season is a car crash. The league is your bread and butter and we have been beyond diabolical. Only last week an almost full strength team conceded 4 to Wolves. The joker.

Wolves would also probably beat Frankfurt btw. I genuinely, hand on heart believe this to be true.

omg, I missed this bit.

So, you reckon yourself a "thinker". Ahahahahahah

You're one of the most basic bitches I've come across on this forum. wtf lmfao

"thinker"

ahahahahahaha

What the hell is even going on.

I made a living out of it so I presume so

It’s the deflecting that concerns me , there’s another person on here who does the same , Brazil or something . You said did I have a wild night , I boiled a ham , deflection is someone who struggles with their own issues & puts that one others , it’s incredibly transparent. I hope you get over your struggles & lighten up

Well, we know this guy must be a thinker because he calls himself thinktank, colloquially refers to himself as “thinky” and bites on comments suggesting he’s not a thinker.

Not cringe at all.

Firstly - I didn't ask you! :D

Secondly - you're being a little bit ridiculous. You are on the record that you will build a statue for Ange if he wins this competition so pretending you don't think getting to the semi-final is important is obviously false. But the main point is about POV - and I'm not defending his record at all. Like you I'm astounded he wasn't sacked in December BUT - my point was that with his preferred back 5 his winning % is Top3 quality. That would be his perspective. You don't have to rate him at all to be able to understand that from his POV if he'd had that back 5 available for most of the season we'd be going much better in the league than we have.

SO he's not being "slimy" - he's just being like any normal person would accentuating the positives. Obviously the counter argument is "do better when you have injuries" and that's, as you say, perfectly valid.

Edit: btw I don't for a minute think that the statue you will build if we somehow fluke a cup title means you or anyone has to think he should remain our manager

Stealing a living there, brah.

You're still hallucinating that I've deflected on anything.

Super weird.

You're an intellectual gimp who mangles words into ugly globs of text you imagine are coherent sentences and potent, pointed barbs.

When in reality all your achieving is poverty passive-aggressiveness (not even the clever kind).

You're a very odd person.

Never knew.

That was obviously sarcastic ... I wouldn't actually build someone a statue for winning the Europa League.

Erm, ok. How many teams at all times have their entire back 5 available? Imagine expecting a coach to do coach things ... if that's his perspective then he's a bloody fool with a cop-out mentality. Our winning % with that back 5 available will also be incredibly flawed as I assume very small sample size?

The counter point is 15th. It's always been the league position. Not just "do better when you have injuries" (clubs get injuries, we've had not that many in recent weeks and league form has remained bad). At no point was our squad near bad enough to be where we are. If it wasn't for a historically bad bottom 3, we'd be firmly in the relegation fight. There's a legitimate chance we'll end up worst of the non-relegated teams. Unbelievable.

He can accentuate the positives all he wants. What he should really do is self reflect on how drastically badly he's got it this season, and hope his players can fluke him a cup. It's the EL, us vs an also terrible United is a legitimate chance, the competition is very low on quality this year. Last year we had an Atalanta vs Leverkusen final, we're lucky this calibre of side isn't knocking about this time around.

Regardless - still very far from winning it. His ego is hurting and he's clearly got a huge one, so he's going to make it all about him in the meantime and make pathetic pops at journalists because he's also a massive bully. Sadly it's something we will have to cope with. I bet the players fucking hate him.

Being shocked and intrigued that someone fancies themselves a thinker who's clearly bog standard (I'm being generous) isn't any of what you've written there, son.

Cute of you to tag in for your girlfriend, tho.

Very sweet.

He still bought and picked Johnson and Solanke who were both pretty abject attacking wise tonight.
We scored from a keeper error.
Once again the front three apart from a bit from Tel produced nothing.

If he thinks Johnson and Solanke are the way to go - we will always remain a hard watch.

Tonight's back four and the midfield three are good - Maddison, Bergvall and Bentancur is a decent mix.

Yeah, EF were awful until the 75th minute when they finally gained some self-respect.

We just dialled down the crazy, kept the ball a bit better and Ange hit the self-preservation-overdrive and slotted in an extra CB and blocked up when it mattered ( all the other times it mattered didn't matter to him enough, tho, clearly).

We did nothing but be relatively solid and didn't make huge blunders.

Really, if I was an EF fan I'd be livid with how they played.

Big props to the players, tho.

They got it done.

Absolutely no criticism tonight. Well done to Ange and the team and coaching staff. That was bloody tough and they deserve all the credit they can get.

The semi looks decent on paper. United being alive after that comeback is a pain. The media will be wanking off United all the way to Spain.

I’m highly conflicted about Ange right now. As if he is capable of getting the team to perform as it did tonight, what the hell explains all the other car crashes ?

Unreal. And Alive.

I have a horrible feeling about United. Tonight is one of those nights that just makes you think it's there's to have

Then again we had many of those nights leading to the CL final and we know how that went

Definitely.

If we somehow win a major European Title we should turn our backs on any victory parade unless and until the club sacks the manager who was in charge of winning that major European title.

We have to get our priorities right :cautious:

Yep. Sack the useless fucker.

Ten Haag won the FA cup - a harder trophy to win by far than this years EL - and United stupidly kept him. It was a fluke, they regretted it. Chelsea gave Di Matteo a new contract due to his cup double. Awful decision.

Look at the overall season, the coaching, and sack him the day after. We could have an absolute double day of celebration, a mad one.
