Management Ange Postecoglou

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

No chance, anyone with a pair of eyes can see why he deserves the sack regardless of what transpires in the EL. We hardly had anyone downing tools over Poch's departure and he gave most of that team their careers, Ange's entire team is made up of players who already made it before he came along or are so young there's no telling what they'll end up like down the line. I can only think Son would be gutted because I doubt the next man in will be so bothered about giving him the armband or starting him every game.
You think BJ would be starting as many games under a different manager?
Son would be the winner if Ange leaves. He's our only current player to have reached a really high level as a footballer, and it's a disgrace he has to play under Ange. Golden boot winner without taking penalties and our top assist maker of all time. Yea, I think he can survive seeing Ange sacked.

lol no they aren’t.

They were in the final of that competition with Rangers mate. They won it on penalties. Rangers would be struggling to stay up.

Frankfurt would be a top half PL side. Nothing more or less. They’re 2 points off 4th - the same position Union Berlin finished last season. Top 4 in the Bundesliga is not indicative of much quality.

I imagine their wage budget etc is all very comparable to a Fulham or Bournemouth so it makes total sense. I saw very little talent over two legs. There was a clear ability gap.
Yet one of the forwards is to be sold to the Bin Dippers for 80mill shortly or so the accurate English press make out!

That happened due to not taking it seriously. We’ve made the EL our big deal this season. You think if peak Poch sides viewed Gent or whoever as cup finals we get knocked out? This is Ange’s everything.

Seriously, when Prem sides treat the EL with respect they tend to do well. Mourinho is cup hungry and laser focused it so they won it. We had that Chelsea/Woolwich final when both were in a weird space and it was their only focus.

A big part of our not winning anything is our being in a weird space lately of good enough for top 4 and mostly being in that fight (even title fights!) but considering ourselves a bit too good for the EL and even domestic cups at times. Jose got to a league cup final when we were abysmal - why? He takes it seriously. Not because of exceptional coaching.

Maybe that’s what we needed all along. Ange is desperate for the silverware. Maybe he doesn’t need to be a very good coach for us to get it. It’s all we will play for now.
Which PL side did not take Europa seriously? You’re taking the piss maaate!

Son has too many miles on the clock IMO, been run into the ground playing every single minute the last decade + for SK and Tottenham and he's reaching the end of his meaningful days as an elite level player. He has lost a yard of pace and he doesn't really have the attributes in his game to adapt to any other position particularly effectively than inside forward off the left, unless we decide to go 4-4-2 and play him off Solanke up top, but then you're giving up a man in midfield to accommodate a player who turns 33 this summer.

He should have one last year for us under a new manager in a reduced role with the captaincy given to someone else, it's difficult because no choice immediately leaps out from this group, but he should be VC at most, he's not demanding enough of refs, which I think goes hand in hand with Ange's refusal to call it out much earlier in why we've had a shit hand of decisions to go with the shit performances since the Liverpool fluke win. Frankly of the senior group I think Porro has the potential, he definitely has a lairy side to him and a very likeable personality, after that Maddison seems well respected by the group and is more argumentative of refs I feel when he is wearing the armband.

A frail, weak footballer with very limited technical ability on the ball, bar his shooting prowess. Golden boot / assists outcomes from yesteryear has little bearing on the likelihood of him adding anything under a new manager. He’s finished.

The current system doesn’t help and exposes his lack of fight and ability, but a new system won’t make make much difference. Look forward to clapping him off at our last home game, hope he gets a 15 min cameo and a goal but move on.

What defines success? I will be very happy about winning the Europa but the league campaign was so horrible that I can’t define this season as a success. If we finished 8th and winning the Europa i would be okay. But barely relegation spots in unforgivable

An absolute success given the fact we won a trophy and qualified for the CL, no one's gonna give a fuck next season where we finished when we are playing in the Berneabeau, slate gets wiped clean and you go again next season.

Sure, but there is a difference between letting teams have constant sitters, or really limiting and snuffing out their attacking threat.

We let them have constant sitters. It was complete fluke we didn't concede. And we only scored a penalty.

I'm just saying, let's keep it all in perspective. Great result, dogged performance, but we still looked a very pony side from a coaching and tactical perspective.

This isn't an objective take at all, sorry.

We didn’t the two seasons we were chasing the league. As players were being rested in EL and playing premier league games.
Total opposite to what we have this season where nobody really cares about the league.

C’est la vie.

Fact you now get CL entry from winning the Europa league changes things too.

Just need to win this competition this season. Doesn’t really matter what happened better part of ten years ago.

Whatever Ange did on Thursday worked, it got into the players. Shame the league form hasn't been there.

Anyway, what an opportunity to finally win a trophy.

Have to make the most of the first leg as the 2nd will be tough.

We won but didn't play well last night. It's not like we battered them 3 or 4 playing scintillating football. Offensively we scored a pen and that's about it. Defensively we once again conceded too many chances, Frankfurt were just hopeless in front of goals. Give them chances to Sancet or Williams and that's game over.
I think you are being a little harsh. Frankfurt are a very, very strong team at home. We did concded a couple of half chances to their right back in the last 15 minutes, but Vicario made only one save I can remember the entire game. Bergvall and Bentancur were really storng in DCM, and the back 4 all played really well. Anyway, the point I was trying to make was about the change in how we did not pass about at the back and take any risks. Ange had said his teams will always play like that whatever. Biggest game of the seaosn and the players did not take short goal kicks at all second half - was that Ange's or the players' decision?
