I know what you mean about him being unbearable, but curiously, if you play it on half speed it's easier to handle.
I also know that his answer is open to interpretation - it could simply be about ending the season, but taking his body language and intonation into account, my interpretation is that Permanent Departure was in his mind, not just the last game of the season.
