The only way that can be proven is to give both coaches both squads and see what they do.
Otherwise it's just opinion and educated guesswork.

My educated guess is Ange would drag Poch's team downwards and Poch would drag this team upwards.
Even if we win the Europa league this season, it doesn't mean we've achieved more, IMO. We have litterally sacrificed one competition for another. Exactly what Poch did in the days we were in the Europa league but vice versa.
If you are willing to accept poor league form domestically, getting to the Europa League final and potentially winning it is far easier than 4 top 4 finishes, including 2 title challenges.

I mean, it's what Poch did constantly. Even with the CL final run, our league form in the back end of that season was relegation worthy. 3 wins from the last 12 losing to Burnely, Southampton, West Ham etc.

I personally think a trophy is an achievement ans 90% of fana would aee it as so. You think Woolwich would rather their season or ours if we win Europa?

Ultimately we'd both start next year in CL, on 0 points but we have something at least to show for ours.

Great post.

Ive said it before and I will say it again, if he wins tomorrow night, I couldn’t give a solitary fuck if he’s on the touchline to start next season.

Should he come back in this scenario, he’d still be on an extremely short leash so I’m not too fussed one way or another. A slow start and he’s likely axed early days anyway.

Just lift that fucking trophy!
I have thought for a while he might be kept on for a bit if he wins, as it will be massive for the club given the trophy hole we are in. But it would be a mistake of course. Likely we will get a sub-par replacement in November and then we're in a mess for another year.

Before the biggest achievement we could be having since 41 years ago, the agenda from the journalists, and worse, some of our fans, towards him leading to the final is nothing short of fucking disgraceful...

I wanted him out, as I honestly never expected us to be in the final of Europa. Under this circumstance change, I'm actually feeling sorry for him to be facing all these crap while trying to bring us the biggest win in decades, and I hope he gave us all the middle finger after lifting the trophy and called it quits tomorrow.

Credit to him, his vibe is way better than Poch could handle no matter how many lemons he had for the CL final 6 years ago. Even if we lose tomorrow, what has he got to lose? He's not getting respect in anyways. He's already sentenced.

There's plenty of people who are Ange Out but also savvy enough to understand that relentless questions about the manager's future and legacy can only be disruptive in the days leading up to the game.

Honestly if that's the outcome of us winning tomorrow, I'll take it with both hands. I have seen the club in a mess for over two decades, what's another year? The win tomorrow will get us to savour for years to come.

Well done Dan. Too right he’s a clown.

Unless we win, then according to Dan he's a hero.

Or you don't agree with Dan if that happens?

More importantly, who gives a fuck? It's not about Ange it's about the team...and the amusing irony here is that Ange has pulled the classic Jose trick before a big game of taking the attention off the team by giving the media some column nonsense to write about him. It's the exact opposite of what a clown would do, whilst talking about someone calling him a clown.

I just found it, thanks. He's said to Dan before that he has read his articles. He is so soft centred, cant have that in our manager. Absolutely nothing wrong with the article though btw.

I suppose if someone referred to me in my professional capacity as a 'clown', I'd be pissed off, like Postecoglou was. The trouble is, he showed he was upset by it. That was a mistake.
Take the bloke to one side, pin him up against the wall in private, threaten him with unspeakable things when nobody else can hear, but don't demean yourself in public by taking the bait, being angry and moody. By all means take the piss out of the journalist, embarrass him, even refuse to answer his question, but the last thing you do is reveal that he's got under your skin. Big mistake, Ange - but we've got used big mistakes.
Even if we win tomorrow, the bloke's still a clown.

I don’t disagree, a trophy isn’t going to make Ange the right man for the job, but if the options are between winning a major European trophy and going through another bottom half league season or losing the final, getting a new manager in and having improved results next season, I’m choosing the trophy every single time.

A new manager ain’t getting us a league title in their first year and barring that, European glory tomorrow night trumps all other league positions in my view.

No need for questions about his future, it's getting tiresome and we all expect him to be gone this summer, even he does surely. It should all be about the final now, just ask questions about that, what else is Ange going to say other than what he came out with regarding his response today. I don't actually hate Ange, I'm kinda sad it hasn't worked out, but we all know the league form and results will mean he's gone this summer no matter what happens tomorrow. But...the focus should have been on the match tomorrow. And that is all I am focused on really now. I'm excited. I'm nervous. I love it. COYS

Ironically, you are replying to an actual clown.

I think he’s a clown no matter what!

Shittest manager in my lifetime. 17th in the league and the league is always the barometer of a teams quality.

Ange can do whatever tricks he wants - results speak for themselves. A joke artist. As if beating the team only marginally less shit than us (16th, with a win rate of about 30% under Amorim!) changes this.

Nice to read a balanced opinion.

This season really has been an exception. Fans seem to have forgotten that fixture congestion and the injury crisis meant that the squad was unable to train for 2 months.

"In a recent interview, he described the situation as “extreme,” noting that for over two months, players—including teenagers and senior squad members—were being asked to play Thursday, Sunday, Thursday, Sunday without rest. He emphasized that this relentless schedule left little room for proper training or recovery, contributing to a significant injury crisis"

I agree that this is not unusual for teams competing in Europe and, still in domestic cup competitions - but it is unusual to do this with so many players missing through injury.

Every season we see "top" teams dip out of the domestic cup competitions - a strategic decision to focus on Europe or the EPL. So, whilst I feel it was an insult to season ticket holders, ditching the EPL was a strategic decision to allow us to focus on the cup competitions. A risk that could pay huge dividends (Trophy + Champs Leage), but also one that carries huge risk (humiliation and lost EPL prize money).

I think if Ange were to stay next season, we would see a significant difference. If the players can remain fit, we have a good core of experienced players to handle the EPL, and some excellent young players who have had valuable experience this season to tackle the Cup comps.
May be do but what interests me is the ‘proper training’. Ffs when this guy had plenty of time for ‘proper training’ we were awful. I recall we had two weeks to prepare MLD at home whilst goons had played 2CL KO games. We were 0-3 down by HT.

He may or may not be a clown .

But , undeniably, for the next 26 , 27 , 28 hours; he’s OUR clown .

We’ve all come this far with him on his journey: let’s give him every last bit of our support for the next day and a bit .

Unless Daniel pulls the trigger between now and the final-whistle
( not impossible I know) ; he’ll bring something very special back to this Club . Let’s all hope and pray it happens.

Absolutely agree – this is such a well-rounded take. Emotional supporters (understandably) get caught up in the highs and lows, and often forget the context – like the brutal fixture congestion and injury crisis – because their passion creates natural biases. And that’s ok, it comes from a place of deep care for the club.

But it has been an exceptional season. Expecting peak performance without recovery or training for two months, especially while relying on youth players, was always going to come at a cost. It’s also true that other top teams often deprioritise certain competitions – so while the EPL drop-off felt harsh, it was a calculated gamble with potential for a big payoff.

If Ange stays and we get a fair run with injuries next season, the foundation is clearly there – experienced leaders and battle-hardened young players – to build something exciting.
But many other teams had injuries as well. In fact we are not even highest in terms of minutes missed. Plus every team that qualifies for Europe has the same rota. Are they not training? It’s just excuse after excuse. Also when we did have some injuries (mainly in defence it has to be said) we actually played in some games like city away and at home in LC. Same as v manure until Fraser got bored. We always had our attacking players fit during November / December mostly. Ok both CBs and goalie were out and then we lost destiny. But it was Ange who didn’t pick Spence for Europe then never played him in the league until soton away. He could have played him in plenty of league games but he picked gray. Same with goalie he had Austin but chose Fraser.

If we don’t win tmrw I don’t see how his position is tenable. I’m sure he’d resign Thursday morning as no way he takes charge of Brighton game. He’d be picking fights with everyone. Prbly more dignified exit by resigning before.

Here are his comments after we lost to Fulham in the League cup early last season. Such a snake oil salesman, just says whatever protects him most at any given time

“I’m here because I want to create a club that has the opportunity to win things on a yearly basis,” he said. “There’s a difference. Us winning a Carabao Cup and finishing 10th is not what I think this club is about.”
It’s amazing how the history books have been written and everything is air brushed. Someone should ask him about this quote and others where his made a fool of himself.
