Those "meaningless games" started in December, Ange clarified this in January and his stupidity stunned the main board.

That is what cost him his job.

Levy was making plans weeks before the EL final on a replacement, and kudos for him in doing so.

I can never ever remember Klopp, Pep, Arteta, Howe or any other top six manager stating that they had given up on the PL in January to concentrate on a Cup competition. Cup winners, Double winners, and Treble winning managers have never done that in January or any month in the season.

Palace fielded almost the same side the week before the FA Cup final against us as they selected in the final itself.

Ange was arrogant, disrespectful, single minded and at the end of the day paid the price for it.

We certainly benefitted, but I'm 100% confident that winning the EL was more for Ange, in his mind, than it was for the club. He wanted to preserve his personal record in lieu of the league. As I say, it was totally something we benefitted from, but I also don't believe he ever suspected it was something he'd survive. Quite bonkers really how quickly people brushed the friction with the fans into the back of their minds.

It was a massive gamble. Imagine if we'd finished 17th and also lost the final? Would have had a huge financial impact, and I would expect half the squad would be leaving. I'm not even convinced that he "prioritised" the EL, but rather used it as a shield for the league results.

I wanted him out. But in fairness. Look round the dressing room...

Gray 18, Bergvall 18, Min Yoek 18, Odobert 19, Tel 19. No wonder he decided the Europa league is his best chance.

Are you telling me Ange finished top 6 and went into a summer hoping for that lot to push on?

Levy is to blame. Always. For everything.

Nothing like cherry picking players who weren't even at the club to satisfy the internal craving

Been pretty pro Ange for most of his tenure but even when you take the freakish amount of injuries into consideration our results over the last 70 odd league games have absolutely provided justification for dismissal. Still like the guy mostly because of his bullish nature although I thought he let himself down at times during his dealings with the press apart from the time he said " I don't usually win things, I always win things in my second year."

Difficult to see through the fog of hypocrisy atm no doubt rising from the many lakes created by the torrential downpour of crocodile tears coming from pundits and fans alike most of who were openly predicting pre Europa final that his time was up and asserting not even securing a trophy would save him. Despite the inevitability of it happening cue the outpouring of outrage currently abounding probably by the same 'so called' fans who were screaming "Why don't you fcuk off you fat cnut" post defeat at games when he was trying to applaud their support?

Sure, I feel for him but I am neither outraged or surprised by his removal and somehow think he expected it. Tbh it's not a bad way to go with his last act bringing us a first trophy in 17 years and a first in Europe for over forty. Far better than being given a chopping block reprieve to start next season to see how it goes and certainly a better way to go than BMJ experienced.

So the question is why haven't past managers managed it
Because the inconvenient truth is that for periods under our most consistently competitive coach we thought we were too good for it. Which in hindsight was crazy. I think Woolwich are currently in this particular cleft stick. A season in the Europa would feel like regression but actually winning it would developmentally be a useful tool. They are league competitive so getting over the line in it would reinforce their momentum. Spurs are a mess week in week out domestically. We didn't win the Europa in line with the blueprint so it won't materially effect the program.

It is the same with the conference league. I remember people on almost every corner of the internet demanding we just play the academy in it, as it was a joke competition.
Then Jose won it after he left us, and all the melts suddenly started talking about it like it was some grand competition we'd be lucky to get to the final of.

I have similar memories of the Europa, years ago, when Harry was giving out debuts to the likes of Kane and Townsend, travelling to Grobollopobongo for an away game on a thursday, and it was treated like a joke.

Equally, in school in the 90s, the Worthington Cup was talked about like the Audi Cup, because the big teams didn't put out good sides. Hell that was a time when Fergie threw the FA Cup in favour of the club world cup.

People only started giving a proper amount of respect to lesser trophies when teams like City started squeezing the hope out of everyone's season for a bit of silverwear.

I am forever grateful for the trophy but I remind all the fans bemoaning his loss the months of actual shit we had to deal with from him. Not least he publicly said he sacked off the premier league from February. That deserves a sacking in itself (for saying that, I don't know if he actually did). We are Tottenham Hotspur, we don't accept 17th.

I was having a conversation with someone last week who congratulated me on the Europa. It then turned to me being worried we would be relegated next season under Ange. That is the position we were in. Don't forget it. We need a professional in charge.

I think you and many others are gonna be extremely disappointed tbh.

Winning the Europa is just an anomaly. A lovely juicy one off anomaly.
We aren't built to win silverware. We don't buy the players for it, we don't pay the wages for it, we don't apply the pressure to the coach and the players for it. Ange applied his own pressure with his rather risky statement and the desire to not go out as a out of his depth ozzie "clown"

It was a lovely one off, and I enjoyed the hell out of Bilbao and the parade after. But now I'm confident normal service will resume, top 5 or nothing.
Whether Frank is the man to get that 5/4th place finish ENIC craves remains to be seen and the moment he's spurs he has my full backing to be here at least 2 years (which will make me a frank cultist when those championing him now are calling him all sorts of insults)
I think most managers deserve that, which was my ange stance . 2 years let's see what he can do
But he will be under zero pressure to win things, it's not expected here :contehmm:
