That means everything coming from you!

Ummm... you're coming across a bit obsessed now tbh.

You get very clingy, very quickly.

TBF, this is EXACTLY the right thread for that sort of behaviour.

Are you sticking up for the gooner Terry Neill who took big Pat to Highbury and left us a relegation team?
My dad was obsessed with that narrative.
When the new stadium opened I took him on a tour with Martin Chivers and he was talking about the madness of Terry Neil.
I flat out asked him if it was true he screwed us over by selling Jennings to Arse and then leaving for them. Chivers confirmed it was nothing of the sort. The club had actively decided Jennings was at the end of his career and actively pushed him out.
Worth pointing out that Terry Neill went to them on July 6th - a whole month before Jennings went. So the idea Neill sold him and then left is nonsense.

My first proper memory of supporting us was being devastated when Jennings was sold as he was my first hero. It was 100% Burkinshaws decision as i think Jennings had been injured a fair bit the previous season and Barry Daines had done well. There is a really good book on that Terry Neill period and early Burkinshaw years called Glory Glory Gone. It seemed only Steve Perryman got on with Neill, the rest loathed him. Even Hoddle wanted to leave.

Chivers was telling us that Neill took them all to a pub as a treat, only to surprise them with a session with a clairvoyant of some kind. They all cringed apparently.

Pat Jennings actually remained at Spurs for a year after Terry Neill left. It was the final season of Pat Jennings contract which Spurs chose not to renew and allowed Jennings to leave.

Keith Burkinshaw's decision and it was Keith who took Spurs down.

Nice try though.

Chivers problems began under Neill too. Neill signed John Duncan and began leaving Chivers out of the team.

Terry Neill also took Willie Young before he took Jennings.

Chivers was quite honest about the end of his time at Spurs. It wasn't him that said jennings left a month after Neill, he just said it was after.
Like a dipstick, I looked the dates up and didn't look at the year...
There's a bit of a theme, as greaves was pushed out, jennings was pushed out and Chivers was too.

I think Iike most leaders Burkinshaw wanted to rebuild in his own image. Big characters like Pat Chiv ect were moved on justifiably probably. But it was handled poorly. We almost had the same thing with Ange dumping Deir, Hojbjerg and Perisic and leaving a character void. Luckily Ipswich Saints and Leicester were to shit to punish us for it.

Apparently Burkinshaw has said he had regrets for many years about his decision to move Jennings out, because he wrongly thought Jennings was finished. I don't have a direct quote of him saying that but it's been reported that he did say such a thing.

I don't give a fig about anyone who wants to look back with squinted eyes. Their issue.

From my perspective I am just grateful to be looking forward to the season, albeit with the knowledge that we needt to see 4 or 5 players of objective quality coming into the squad.
Actually, if you want to compare two managers you should do it with the same material.
I'm curious to listen what Frank is going to say about the team he inherited.
