Is there a valid reason why he couldn't inspire Forest to win a game while he was there?
Don't care which gender or what species our manager is or anything about the manager's BMI!
Everyone would admit if they were honest that had Ange been retained it's very likely he would have had his P45 by the time the clocks went back. He was not turning it round, least of all with the same players. Things only went from bad to worse after his opening run.
Perversely, we'd have been better off keeping Ange than bringing in Thomas Frank in that sense - that there would have been no compulsion to give the manager more time as there was with a first year man in place.
Of course retaining a manager who set a record for losses could never be the right thing to do, but it's only a question of whether Ange would have drawn salary for a few more months. The idea he would have had us firing is a particularly fanciful fantasy.

I was all in on Postecoglou being sacked in the weeks leading up to winning the Europa. When we did win, I had a wobble in my belief that the sacking was the right thing to do. Nevertheless, I was happy enough when the axe fell.
Now?
Now, I think, with the squad he had at his disposal, he overachieved in his first season in getting us to finish 5th. I also now give more weight to the proposition that he managed his playing resources to maximise our chances of winning the Europa.
That does not mean that I think he 'binned off' the league. I believe he always sent his teams out to try to win every game. In the league though, from January, he prioritised Europe and the squad depth was not strong enough to be effective in the League.
Nevertheless, at week 28 last season we had 34 points. We had a positive goal difference of plus 14. We were in 13th place and 17 points above the relegation zone. What would we give for that now?
I have come to the conclusion we were wrong not to give him a shot at this season.

After finishing 5th in his first season, and getting the team back into Europe......the board backed him by replacing experienced players (Skipp, Peresic, Hojbjerg) with kids (Bergvall, Gray, Odobert).
The finger pointing should be firmly at the board, not the staff who have to deal with the shit they are given.

Good post. This is pretty much where I'm at too. I think we (and I include myself in this too, for sure) are quick to want to sack the manager when things are bad, *even when* we know the problem isn't the manager. I think back to the Amazon series, where you can watch Jose see in real time how the squad was not at all what he thought it was--Erickson's head was long turned, Dier was a man with no position after injuries (too slow for midfield, lacking the instincts for central defense, and remember how Jose wanted him for big money at United and we refused), Dele was a shadow of himself (Dele's brother!), etc. From that, to Conte's multiple tirades about the degradation of the roster, to window after window of no buys and/or poor buys (we all remember Poch crying out for a "painful rebuild"), we all *know* the squad had become a total mess.
I'm not saying Ange is the answer at all. But I loved the way he spoke about the club, his attacking ethos, his Poch-like utter belief in Tottenham. Maybe he would've flamed out this season too--I think *any* manager, a resurrected Bill Nic, would have been helpless with this squad and its injuries. But I regret us not giving him a chance.

God, I miss the days of a Skipp-Hojbjerg double 6. Perisic was basically gone the season before, he was out injured the whole first season of Ange...
Board failed, still no excuse to develop as shit as we did. The tactical flaws and stubborness were there for everyone to see.
Fuck off with that bollocks. It was never remotely a possibility last year. At this stage last season we were in 13th place, 17 points clear of the relegation zone, had a +14 goal difference. The gap never went below 16 points until week 37.
There was plenty to complain about with Postecoglou's handling of the thin squad in the latter part of last season, but 'almost got us relegated' is bullshit.
