The transfer window of 2018 has had an impact on our overall success but fuck me, 8 years ago, 16 windows most of if not all of those players would have moved on.

We’ve only got one player still here from then. Davies.

I think we've barely got any players left from the 2020/21 Mourinho era too

  • Lloris
  • Hart
  • Gazzaniga
  • Whiteman
  • Doherty
  • Reguillon
  • Alderweireld
  • Sanchez
  • Rodon
  • Dier
  • Aurier
  • Tanganga
  • Davies
  • Rose
  • Hojbjerg
  • Winks
  • Lamela
  • Sissoko
  • Lo Celso
  • Alli
  • Moura
  • Ndombele
  • Son
  • Bale
  • Kane
  • Bergwijn
  • Vinicius not junior

All of them, except Davies, gone

And people still complain we need a rebuild from the poch era - there's fuck all left from the Jose one!

Well, that's the truth, so....

Summer 2018 broke the credibility of the club within its own dressing room and that has never been mended and led us straight here.
See?

I can sort of get the point. But that window also led us to a CL final and a Europa Cup.

And selling Gazza led us to 2018.

And signing Greaves led us to selling Gazza.

Etc…….

Barking fucking mad.

Sure, there are other things you can point to as sources of the club's players believing the club doesn't give a shit about winning, but the only empty summer in the history of the Premier League is #1 on the list.

It was the premeditated cold-blooded murder of the Poch miracle.

It maybe was the death of Poch, but it’s got a nano-particle to do with where we are today. Like everything else that’s happened, good or bad, in our history.

You could even make a real actively constructive argument that our league and cup successes in the 60s, 70s, 80s caused us to now have higher expectations than we should, as without them, we’d not regard ourselves as a big club.

The summer of 18 is a lot closer to where we are today, but a huge volume of water has gone under the bridge since then. Every drop of which is more to blame for our present circumstances than the transfer window from almost 8 years ago.

Think nobody really ignores that - you seem to be one of those who really couldn't understand the exact rationale why Ange keeps popping back but constantly berating and abusing anyone who talks about him, even at the expense of insulting one's body weight just to make yourself appear smart and correct.

Every single Spurs fan knew about the 17th and 22 losses. Now the discussion was mainly about his ability to motivate players and getting them over the line, something which we badly lacked and needed in the final 9 league games.
What absolute load of word waffle.

Motivate the players? Like he did in the league last year, to 22 losses? After being found out by every other manager?

Motivated shit, is still shit. And what's the point in his motivation if his tactics don't work anymore and easy to counter?

How brain dead do you have to be to not understand this?

This just goes to show how little you really understand things.

The three windows in which we spent £0 on strengthening the first team, from a position of strength has cost us so dearly.

It set the Levy standard for his remaining years.

Rather than being at the top end of the table competing, it instead set us on downward spiral from which we have never recovered.

If levy had invested properly, including changing the wage structure to help obtain the players we needed, we would probably have won more silverware and we wouldn't be where we are today.

That was the sliding door moment, whether people like it or not.

This is what my mate ChatGPT said about bringing back Ange:

The answer is complicated. There are good reasons for and against Ange Postecoglou being the right manager for Tottenham Hotspur. Here’s a balanced look.
👍 Reasons he should be Tottenham manager
1. He actually delivered a trophy
Postecoglou led Spurs to the 2025 UEFA Europa League title, their first trophy in 17 years.
Wikipedia +1
That win ended one of the longest trophy droughts among big English clubs.
For many fans, that alone makes him one of the club’s most successful modern managers.
2. His football style suits Spurs
Postecoglou’s philosophy (“Ange-ball”) is:
Attacking
High pressing
Possession-based
Fast passing
It brought Spurs their best Premier League start ever and three consecutive Manager of the Month awards early in his tenure.
Premier League +1
This style also matches Tottenham’s historic motto: “To Dare Is To Do.”
3. Players and fans often liked him
Some players publicly said his sacking felt “strange” because of his winning mentality.
The Times
Many supporters appreciated the entertaining football and belief he brought back after the Mourinho/Conte era.
👎 Reasons Tottenham moved on from him
1. The league season was terrible
Despite the Europa League win:
Spurs finished 17th in the Premier League, their worst ever PL finish.
Wikipedia +1
They were one place above relegation.
For most clubs, finishing that low makes a manager’s job difficult to justify.
2. Tactical risks
His system is very attacking but risky:
Extremely high defensive line
Can leave the team exposed to counter-attacks
Once opponents adapted, Spurs struggled more defensively.
Wikipedia
3. Spurs’ instability
Tottenham have changed managers frequently.
Even after replacing him, results have still been unstable, showing the problems may go beyond just the coach.

✅ The honest verdict:
Yes — he proved he could win a major trophy and play exciting football.
But also no — finishing 17th in the league is extremely hard for a big club to ignore.
Many Spurs fans think he deserved another season with better squad depth.

My comment was a response to a statement that said: 'Atletico are a level and class ahead of any Europa side he managed against.'

I made no comment about our league form last season.

I made no comment about Postecoglou.

I simply pointed out that we had beaten some decent sides in last season's Europa run, including Bodo Glimt, who this season have beaten Athletico, Inter, City, and Sporting.

Along with the overwhelming majority of our fans, I took enormous pleasure in winning a prestigious trophy after so many years of failure so to do. I am at a loss to understand why some fans shit on those of us who express our joy at that win.

Beating a giant doesn’t make you a giant. Some great boxers have been beaten by not very good ones, it doesn’t make them great. Bodo have had some giant slaying successes in the right environment, they aren’t a giant. Atletico are an infinitely more talented side. Comparing beating Bodo with beating Atletico because Bodo beat Atletico is stupid logic. Bodo also beat City and so did we this season.

Atletico was the first time in Europe either this season or last that we came up against a team with some genuinely elite footballers, other than PSG which we also lost.

Be funny if they lost to Bodo

You got any better ideas how to snap the doom spiral of confidence we're in?

I definitely wouldn’t bring in the guy who oversaw a league doom spiral for us and then oversaw a league doom spiral for Forest. Ange has proven utterly incapable of rescuing a team in very bad league form, so I’m definitely not convinced a token speech from him is going to achieve anything. I also think the players would find it as embarrassing a prospect as I do.

If we’re going down the slightly cringy route then idk, hire a jester or something to cheer them up. Is Bielsa available? He’s mental enough to do some nutty things that might give them self belief. Throwing shit at the wall and all that.

Be funny if they lost to Bodo

Do you think if they lost to Bodo that would make Bodo a better side & a greater scalp than Atletico, or do you think the way knockout competitions work isn’t as linear as all that.

Bodo can cause surprises. It won’t change the fact every team in the world would rather play them than Atletico, who have a much better team of footballers more likely to win games.
