The Ange fanboy happy clapping brigade think I’m talking bollocks and you know what that makes me think .. it’s perfect fucking sense.

I said Atletico were a class above anything we faced in the EL last season. That is absolutely true. Nobody in the EL we played possesses the level of footballer they have.
With all due respect, no one fucking cares about the CL. It's a distraction at this stage and extra games we could do without.

Players clearly like Ange, not up for debate, more than can be said for the last two managers. That's something, anything. If he can squeeze out an extra 20% of effort, that's all it could take.

At this stage, I don't know how anyone could be that opposed to it. Worst case scenario and you're delighted, get to tell everyone "told you so", best case, we fight to live another day and he's gone in the summer.

I wanted him gone as much as the next man but I certainly have more faith in the players fighting for him than Ryan, fucking, Mason or Sean Dyche.

It’s not because over two legs things can happen, it’s knockout football. In any league situation they’d finish very far behind them though, because they are a much less talented and deep team without the likes of Alvarez and Griezmann.

In Europe I have seen Di Matteo’s by then miles past it, flailing Chelsea team beat almost peak Barcelona and an incredible Bayern side. It happens.

Bodo have had some very impressive recent results that would probably not be sustained for long. They conceded 30 shots and 70% of the ball to inter but won. That happens extremely rarely I.e Celtic beating peak Barca rarely.

They’re a good plucky outfit who can go on a run but also lose to Gala, Valarenga, draw to Sparta Prague etc. Generally depends on time of season & the artificial pitch is a bitch.

I agree Bodo won't have the depth in a long season in a top 5 league, but that's true for nearly every team in Europe.

Every season, we know that the winner of those leagues will almost certainly come from a list of about 8 clubs, in all of Europe.

But here's the thing: Its pointless arguing Bodo are not a good team because they wouldn't be good enough over a season in the league and that's because we didn't play Bodo in the league. We played them in a Cup competition, and Bodo are, right now, one the best Cup teams in Europe.

Either way I shake my head how its possible that a club with our resources can get itself into such diabolical mess.

Anyway, the first sentence here is true, and while United also has players at that level they were laughably out of form when we played them.

However, due to the randomness of the new CL fixture system, the teams we actually defeated in the CL this season have been worse than several that we played in the EL last season.

We really only stepped up to what you conventionally think of as CL quality twice so far and have had 5 pumped past us each time. In no way has this season's European campaign been more impressive than last season's, properly adjusted for the caliber of opposition they're more or less mirror images, just like our league form.

Taking home the trophy last season was a question of nerve more than quality. Surviving relegation will be the same.

They went and beat Inter at the San Siro...

Edit: They also beat, checks notes, Atleti in Madrid.

Yeah, conceding like 50 odd shots and 70% of the ball in the process. Shit happens. Celtic beat Barcelona once with 2 shots and a dream.

They’re on a good run and can get good results but they tend to always hit a very clear ceiling and are as capable of losing or drawing to very poor European sides as they are of beating the good ones.

So, what you're saying is that in a one off game, where anything can happen, you'd back them?

Thank you.

I'm actually convinced that Ange is the only one who can get us out of this mess.

The idea that players like Ange and fight for him is a bit revisionist. By the end of last term it was reported that most the squad had given up on him. And its not like he was any better off - we were a very poor 17th last year. No one seemed to be fighting for him at all.

If we were in the EL this season, there'd be every chance we could do the same as we did last season based on the level of the competition.
