Manager Antonio Conte

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Speaking ahead of Sunday's trip to Burnley, Conte said: “We want to grow and compete with other great English clubs. But today there is a gap between the investments made by the owners and the sporting results. We have to fill it.
“We need players with the right mentality and with the quality, players that deserve to play for Tottenham and aspire to be competitive, to fight for this shirt, to win something.
“I’m making my evaluations and then I’ll speak with the club.”
WOW!!!

He's saying exactly what I and a few others have been saying on here for years! Almost word for fucking word.

Airfixx Airfixx , Schmoods, and the rest of you ENIC fanatics.....would you like to take this opportunity to show some balls and admit we was right all along?

I've got no worries about him going at all.

To me he's mentioning investment as a past tense so people wetting their knickers that he's going after Levy just see the word and get excited.

It's clear he knows what the job was. He's saying that the players aren't worth the money the club has spent on them.

So yes there will finally be change. Yes some players are going to be turfed out. But there's no beef with Levy - seems Levy has headhunted him to actually be the one to make the changes.

Does he not mean that the owners have made [large] investments that aren't delivering the expected sporting results?
Seemed to me like he's referring to recent transfer flops, bad mentalities.

From the Mirror article: "Sergio Reguilon, Eric Dier, Ben Davies, Lucas Moura, Pierre-Emile Hojberg and academy players Japhet Tanganga and Oliver Skipp have all impressed Conte while Ryan Sessegnon, despite being sent off against Mura, is likely to get more chances."

We know he likes Son, Romero and Kane, so with the players mentioned at least he has a core to work with by the look of it.

If it’s any good, can you post the interview please?
🙂

THE ITALIAN TECHNICIAN IS BACK IN PREMIER FOR HIS MOST DIFFICULT CHALLENGE: RETURNING TOTTENHAM TO THE TOP. «I HAVE ALWAYS BUILT AND LEAVE A WINNING TEAM. HOW IT HAPPENED IN MILAN. HERE THE MANAGER ENGRAVES
ON AND OFF THE FIELD. I STUDY FOOTBALL EVERY DAY: IT'S MY LIFE, MY PASSION, MY WORK "

From the King of the City, Pep Guardiola ("Welcome back to Conte in the Premier League. His career speaks for him, he has won and been successful everywhere. He is an exceptional coach") to the Sicilian-born London taxman Enzo ("Greet me so much Antonio, I support Chelsea and I still regret it ... »). From Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp ("I love him, fantastic, passionate and intelligent coach") to Paul waiter in the SevenSister neighborhood ("Ultimately my Tottenham will win again"). From “Loco” Bielsa, gu- ru of Leeds ("A true representative of the Italian school. He is a point of reference in world football and a master in bringing out the best in his players") to Jenny, receptionist of hotels ("I call it blue eyes, it conveys the desire to win just by looking at it"). Until the lightning bolt Usain Bolt a United fan ("We missed him, I would have liked him at Manchester. Wherever he goes, he wins"). And we could go on, because the list is very long. Antonio's return to England, as they affectionately call him without needing a surname, was greeted with esteem, warmth and admiration by all: technicians, common people, excellent fans.
And he, the "Earl of London", re-changes the warm welcome received not only by Tottenham fans, using words to
honey towards a league from which he has never really detached himself, having followed him for study and passion even when he trained Inter: "The Premier is the best there is from all points of view," he explains. «It improves you, it pushes you to give your best. It has an irresistible charm. Entertainment, passion, organization, investments, structures: here football finds its maximum expression, on and off the pitch. I knew that sooner or later I would be back, maybe I didn't think so soon ... Better this way for my English which is still fresh, I didn't need full immersion lessons like five years ago, when I came to Chelsea ». Balance of the first three games played by Spurs with him on the bench: heart-pounding victory in Confederation 3-2 with Vitesse. A crazy race as he doesn't like him: «To climb to the top you need stability and continuity of performance and results. The Russian mountains are good for the carnival, not on the pitch ”. Then a solid debut in the Premier League at Everton that ended 0-0 and finally last Sunday the comeback victory over Leeds 2-1. At the end of the match, Conte's hug to his players and his liberating shout at the fans with his fists in the sky, “Come on!”, Made the rounds of social media and English broadcasts: the conductor is got back. And Tottenham
of the ups and downs he already seems to have found the determination of his coach-manager.
The opportunity to visit the man of the Scudetti (5 in 7 years with Juventus, Chelsea and Inter) arises two weeks after his arrival in the world of Spurs, during the break for the World Cup qualifiers. He explained to us: "This is the moment when I have a little more time because then in December the calendar is very busy, we play every 2-3 days ...". But when Conte is busy working, the concept of "a little more time available" is very relative. Even without half a team around the world, his schedule does not change: he wakes up early in the morning, at 9 already at work. Meetings, tactical analyzes, study of videos, morning training, then in the afternoon, another session, gym, meetings, preparation for the next competitions. So until 9 in the evening. "Those who have time do not wait for time" is a cult phrase of his, the result of that desire to use every minute available to improve, raise the bar, transfer his working method made up of intensity, care of particular, technical, tactical, physical preparation and, above all, creating that winning mentality that leads the group to experience success not only as a simple goal, but as a
"Magnificent obsession". We enter the continuous full immersion, taking advantage of the break after lunch. The sun and the clear sky, anomalous compared to the usual London gray in November, lull a walk in the magnificent Tottenham ground, a sports center to remain open-mouthed for its size, care, facilities: dozens of training fields with perfect grass, gyms, swimming pools, meeting rooms, offices, changing rooms, mini golf courses, gardens, tree-lined avenues, and a guesthouse that looks like a 5-star hotel for players, technical staff and executives. It is no coincidence that a part is often rented to the English national team as well. Everything is brand new: modern buildings with glass facades contrast with the English cottage style with postcard corners and interiors with sofas, leather armchairs, carpets, fireplaces.
"I've never seen a center like this", smiles Conte, amazed and satisfied
undone. “You look around and it never ends. Many do not understand how many points it can give to work in such a structure. Because the matches are played on Sunday but are won during the week. And the owned stadium, which cost more than a billion, is something even more incredible, with the fans giving you wings. Tottenham has world top club structures. The team must be up to it. Today there is a gap between investments made by the company and sporting results: we have to fill it ".

He left Inter Scudetta because plans and ambitions had changed. What convinced you to accept Tottenham who finished seventh last year?
“President Levy has shown that he wants me at all costs. In his words and in the investments made, I perceived a vision: the desire to excel. I said to myself: if we combine this ability off the pitch to what I can give on the pitch, you can really set up a serious and profound job. Grow and compete with other big English clubs. The team is young and has a lot of room for improvement. But the competition is fierce with the four giants Chelsea, City, Liverpool, United. And then Woolwich, West Ham, Everton ... ».
She called it the most difficult challenge of her career. Coming fourth this year would already be a challenge.
“They never scared me
the challenges, I just need to have even a 1% chance of winning them to start my battle. I have never taken teams that had won the year before, but always reconstruction paths. Juve came from an eighth place, Chelsea from a tenth, Inter from a quarter. I know it will take a little patience this time. In Milan I left a finished job. Here I have to start over and enter the current season is never easy ».
But you are one who usually goes in a hurry ...
«Great teams build over time. Klopp did not enter the Champions League in the early years in Liverpool, but they gave him confidence and year after year he shaped the team that then won it. Guardiola didn't win the first year either. We are starting from a-b-c, but on the way we plan to accelerate with the letters of the alphabet. The path is bumpy but it doesn't scare me, it excites me ». In Italy it is said: now Conte will make Tottenham spend a lot on the market ...
"It makes me laugh. Let me tell you that in my career at the
in the end I have always made money, not spend. I have often worked with young people to train, athletes devalued or to be rebuilt, players who had never won until then. All players who have reevaluated, thanks to my work. In my career I have only asked for a player who has been paid a lot ... ». Lukaku?
"Exactly. I asked for it based on the objectives that had been presented to me. The Inter executives came to my house to tell me that they wanted to overthrow Juve's hegemony and bring Inter to the top of the world, taking advantage of large amounts of money. I asked Lukaku considering it essential. But also look at what has been resold: almost double. Like Hakimi. But I could mention the enhancement of Barella, Bastoni, Lautaro, who did not play before my arrival ... At Juve I had the pleasure of working with Barzagli, Boucci and Chiellini: phenomena, but when I still hadn't won anything. "

Does he mean that he carries the wrong label?
«I mean that where I go I always build something important and when I leave I leave a groove, a culture of work, an organization and a winning mentality. I totally put my heart and soul into the club I work for. Faithful to that All Blacks motto: "Leave the shirt better than how you found it". I have always left houses with well-built foundations where others, after me, have had the opportunity to continue to win, some more, some less. It is not presumption, they are facts ».
The impression is that in Italy, despite the victories, she always had a few pointed fingers-to against. In England, on the other hand, it has unanimous approval.
«In Italy in general we struggle to give the right merits, as if our excellence, in all fields, bothers us. Abroad, however, it is the opposite. I understand that I may have been divisive. As a player I only wore two shirts, that of Lecce and Juve, of which I was the captain. And since Juve are loved by their fans and hated by everyone else, I understand that I could also arouse dislikes. But as a coach I always said that I would coach any team, if there was a serious and stimulating program. And I have proved it. Giving my all. The experience attendance in the national team brought me closer to the people, but ours is a cultural problem. In England everything is different, starting with the atmosphere surrounding football. "

Some absolute gold in here:

The last paragraph sums up why we are all here really doesn't it?

"This time I would like to enjoy this construction phase that awaits me. I start from behind, but I have the experience and maturity to face this difficult challenge and yes winning will be more beautiful."

It's nothing to do with questioning Conte, it's more to do with questioning his suitability for this squad.
It's more his suitability to work with Levy. It's also the suitability of Paratici for this squad too.

Conte is an elite coach, no questioning that, but is he the coach we need at present and will he be the coach to take us where we need to go?

That's a bigger question. Oh and I remember when we unveiled Jose and I was unimpressed by a manager on a downward spiral who I think I said at the time was a "Chequebook manager used to working with the best and wasn't suited by a mediocre squad". Iwas massively disagreed with because he was a "winner" anda"fighter" and would "kick these wasters into shape".

Guess what....he wasn't.
You speak too much sense. Conte, like Jose, is a terrible fit for us with our structure.

We need to sell half of the squad, we need a director of football who knows modern football, we need to bring in young, hungry, talented players and we need a defined style of play for the long term.

Conte wants players for now, that can play in his turgid 352 system. And when he leaves in 6 or 12 months, we’re left with a squad of players the next manager won’t want.

It’s short term thinking to appease the fans. “Let’s get Conte in that will silent the supporters for a few months”.

And then what? The club is a mess.

Can't help myself, now I know where they are and how to post them.

Try to explain it to us.
"There is an exceptional, priceless enthusiasm. In the stadiums you arrive by bus and the opposing fans greet you, applaud you or in any case do not insult you. There is greater respect and consideration of the value of those who work and obtain results. My experience at Chelsea had been appreciated by the insiders, the media and the fans. And in fact in these months without a team my name has often been approached-
to English clubs, a sign of esteem for the coach and for the man ".
How does it feel to be called a Boss?
«Here the manager is a fundamental figure who is listened to and respected. He has a strong specific weight not only in the choices of the field but in all those of the club. He affects a lot. In England they value what you do very much, if you are working well and deeply. Even if the results don't come right away, they give you support and a chance to continue if they recognize your value. With Tottenham I think I have found a far-sighted club and that we can carry on an important job ».
The presence of Paratici at his side will be an extra help. "The relationship with Fabio is solid, there is great mutual esteem, we have worked together, he knows me. We speak the same language and I am not referring only to Italy ".
Tottenham fans have already coined a chorus with his name, Antonio.
«Incredible welcome, a great feeling was immediately created. I'm very happy".
You said that everything you study and develop is always around the attackers to enable them to score. With Son and Kane at Tottenham he “crashed” well ... «I always say that an important player must have three qualities: to be strong, resistant and fast. Son has them all. Kane is an absolute value player. Not only of great class but also of great football intelligence. Sacchi used to say that with players you either go by persuasion or you go by percussion. To some you must re-
do things a thousand times over. With Kane, only one is enough, he stores it and immediately puts it into practice. Technically he is very strong, he manages to move in half a meter with the ball between his feet and the man on him, already knowing where the goalkeeper is and if he has to kick at the first or at the far post. He sees the door as few ».

What si the goal? Make him become top scorer?
«He wants to win with this shirt, my aim is to help him make his dream come true. But in general, the best thing for a coach is to be told at the end of the season: thanks mister I have improved with you. Kane is already a champion but I would like to succeed
to add even 1-2-3 percent more to his baggage ». He has a young team, he can improve many ... «I want to improve them all. They are young, they have margins, they follow me and they want to learn ».
But is it just our impression or do they really go twice the speed and intensity of English football compared to Italian football?
"No, it's true. In the game as well as in training. There is much less tactics in the Premier League, you go in gusts, here the ball flies, thrown from right to left: you hear the hiss in the air. In Italy we are masters of tactics, the teams are organized, but more blocked, shielded. The fewer spaces available also reduce intensity and speed. In the Premier, we play more openly. This makes the matches more spectacular. And from 65 'onwards, when a little tiredness emerges, anything can happen ... ".
And how do you adapt to this football?
"I believe that it is necessary to absorb the mentality and the type of football of a country if you do not want to become a foreign body, but to win tactics and strategy remain fundamental".
How's it going with the British media? "Very good. Five years ago it was all new and at the beginning the language could represent a problem, but now I feel at ease, and I have found many familiar times. I came back here much better prepared and more open from many points of view ».

How much room for improvement does Conte still have? «We never stop growing, studying, updating, finding new solutions. I study football every day. It is my life, my passion, my work, my magnificent obsession. To stay on top, you never have to sit down. Out of respect for yourself and for those who look for you and pay you ».
By the way: I haven't asked her the question about his rich engagement yet ...
«Because he already knows my answer: I earn what I'm worth, what I produce, what I build, what I win. The value of a professional is determined by his own history, its results and the market he has ».
You insist a lot on the concept of challenge and having to build. But for once, wouldn't you like to take on a team that has always been winning for years? «You can see that I am made for more difficult choices that require more effort. Every now and then I tell myself: it would be nice to drive a car that starts from pole position. But in the end, that's okay with me. I evaluated Tottenham's choice and found all the answers I was looking for ».
You live today in the Tottenham sports center, will you stay here? “No, only temporarily. At Chelsea I bought a house near the sports center, but in the end I killed those two years in the countryside. This time I'll take a hotel downtown. I'll be in the car a little longer, but I want to leave
the chance to go out one evening, see people, go to a restaurant, live a normal life ». Do you like London?
"Very. It is a city that offers you a lot and when I am homesick it takes very little to feel at home because it is full of Italians ». Conte, we wish you the Champions zone. And what do you wish for yourself?
«To enjoy my work, the journey more. Sometimes the obligation to achieve the result, to be forced to win because your name is Conte, because you earn a lot, has also "infected" the results achieved. This time I would like to enjoy this construction phase that awaits me. I start from behind, but I have the experience and maturity to face this difficult challenge ".
And winning it will be even more beautiful ...
"Yes, it will be more beautiful."

And straight away you've opened it up to debate "if Levy opens the chequebook".

I heard a story, from someone with Ajax, which explains why Ten Hag was turned down. If it is true, there's no reason to think Levy will change for Conte.
Ten Hag was unenthusiastic about working with our beasts of burden?

Ten Hag was unenthusiastic about working with our beasts of burden?
Heard all was going well in the interview until it got to transfers. ETH wanted De Ligt, De Jong, VDB, Gravenberch and Dani Olmo with Onana and possibly Mazroui to follow at a later window. The massive problem was that ETH wanted to sell Kane and Levy was having none of it and thats where things ended.

Conte wants to get us to the top not just top 4. The man thrives in this, we need to back him by any means necessary I'm excited, these games are taking too long too come by

This guy is 100 percent capable of fucking off at the drop of a hat. I have no doubt.

He doesn’t have the unwavering loyalty Poch had nor the finished and desperate nature of Mourinho.

Conte is a genuine top 5 coach in the world at the peak of his powers. If he feels promises were broken and Levy has lied to him or fucked him over, I have absolutely no doubt he will walk.

It’s absolutely brilliant in a way. If he makes Levy bend and allow him to mould the team in his image then outstanding, and if he isn’t backed and walks Levy is well and truly faceplanted in the mud.

He has Levy and ENIC’s balls in a vice. And I’m all for it.
Sorry but just NO!

This is a project that he's discribing.
