Cost us 2 points today. Poor lineup poor subs and poor tactically. You don't need 5 at the back plus a holding midfielder vs 10 men you need creativity. Bad day at the office from him.

We weren’t playing 5 at the back; we were playing 3 at the back with the wingbacks pushing forward as wingers. I think Doherty spent more time in the box than on the wings though.

Against tem men you need width so there was no problem with the 3 at the back because the wing backs play as wingers, the problem in part was Doherty not keeping the width so from that POV it was a poor sub but you could sort of understand it cause Reggie was probably gonna get a red card, if we had Sess we would have won that as he would have stretched the pitch and kept the width.
The width wasn't working. Just flinging balls in hoping for the best rarely works. What we needed was somebody with creativity and skill centrally to draw players out of that rigid central area. It needed switching up go wide go central. They was happy and comfortable to let us play it wide because we have no quality there.

Playing a right-footer at LWB was a dumb idea. Narrowed the pitch, all he did was stop, cut inside and cross. Conte had a stinker in that half for me. If he wanted to stick with the back 3, should've put Davies out there and brought on Tanganga. Game was also crying out for Ndombele. Guy is an enigma, but could've unlocked them and a luxury we could afford against 10-men. Arrgggh, so frustrated.

Yeah I think you're right, forgot we had Davies as a LWB option as well.

A right footer that isn't even good to play on the right. But ok, Reguilon should be gone and Davies was our most reliable CB. Think we should be after another LWB, Sessegnon is not trustable.

So you legitimately don't believe that our players may be experiencing ANY kind of bounce from Conte having been appointed relatively recently? None at all?

Because that's all I'm arguing. I think there's probably still an element of being excited he's at the club and relief at being freed from guys like Nuno. That feeling won't last forever, but yes we have the framework of great coaching to fall back on. Conte isn't reliant on the new manager bounce like your other examples, but it doesn't mean we don't get it at all.
No, this isn't a "bounce". It's coaching as we are playing very, very differently under Conte than under the two previous jokes. Our players are working to instructions, there are attacking moves that are from the Conte playbook seen in all of his previous teams. You can specifically see the different roles being performed by players, most notably Dier, Davies and in the past two games Sanchez is now joining attacks as Davies has been (this hasn't been seen at all under Nuno and the Dino). (There are loads more individual examples throughout the entire team, just picking the obvious).

He had a poor game today. Wrong choices made in that second half which didn't give us the best chance of creating a goal
We don’t know which players are fit and which players are running on empty.
Had everyone been 100% fit this is not the team he would have picked and the subs made would also not have been his choice.
All managers have to make decisions that don’t make sense to fans over the Christmas period.

If they are on the bench they are fit enough to play 30-odd mins of football. Not an excuse. He made some baffling choices.

Ah, the lowest from of wit. 👍
Fact not wit.. How in gods name do you know who was fit and who wasn’t? We finally have a manger who we should trust 100% but because VAR done us over everyone thinks they could do better.

Playing 2 games in 48 hours is crazy and you have to use your squad the best you can.
If this was our first game for a week or so then I’m sure the decisions would have been different.

Give the man some credit.

I mostly agree but the one thing I'm scratching my head about today is why Dohertey and Gil didn't switch sides once Gil came on.

Bizarre honestly.

I think he was hoping Gil and Doherty switching with the inside rcb and lcb would cause havov on their deep 10 man block and create openings. Something that traditional wing backs wouldn't do since their placement is predictable.

It's quite clever actually. It just didn't work. We certainly had chances.

It's not easy playing against a 10 man deep block away. Especially against the saints.

I do agree if Ndombele was fit he should have come on for someone. We did need some more creativity from cm, especially a dribbler who can beat a block and then release it.

He did the same v palace in 2nd half didn’t change formation even though our WBs are generally crap. Why stick to that formation when we have more attacking players?
