Manager Antonio Conte

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Sure, I’d be patient if:
conte had a long term contract
Conte had any record of long term success at a club
Conte was playing footballers with ability instead of royal and sess.

I’m concerned because we clearly need a rebuild and we are using a win now manager who is not using our young players with potential (and using ones that make my eyes bleed).

I’m afraid this club has no plan for replacing son or Kane in the future.
I won't argue with regard to Royal, but Sess I don't agree with. It took Rose a while to hit his straps, and I think Sess has more ability than him. Whether he has the temperament Rose had is what is in question for me.

As for Conte and his contract, we'll have to wait and see there. Aren't negotiations ongoing?

But then patience has never been a virtue for our fanbase really.
We havent won a trophy for 14 years. Havent played consistantly good football for 5 years. I think we've been pretty patient. Certainly no worse than any other group of fans of a supposed big club. If Conte stays beyond this season we have to be prepared to seriously spend on some of the better players in Europe, not freebies, or 34 year olds If we're looking at the cheaper end of the market we need to have a different approach with someone prepared to build with younger players imo. They're the choices for the board really.

Well said.

For the past few seasons there have been rather a lot on here who laughed at Arteta and his coaching. Yet given the time to get his process in place, he now has them playing Football that more than a few on here are envious of.

Whether Woolwich implode or not, and I'm not convinced they will, it just goes to show that time and patience can often be required to register a desired result.

If the filth down the road can do that for an untried manager, shouldn't we for a PROVEN winner in his prime?

I remember when Poch first started with us. The Football was ugly and there were more than a few calling for his head.

But then patience has never been a virtue for our fanbase really.

Time isn't always the answer unfortunately. Every case is different.
There's plenty of coaches who don't give 2 shits if it's all gone Pete Tong but they won't walk because of the financial benefit.
There's also the coaches who do want to turn it around, but need a new squad to do it.
If a team has a minimum objective, it's typically cheaper and more efficient to change coach and hope the new one can get the team playing again.

Woolwich, either through luck or judgement, gave Arteta what he wanted and they're doing well.
I doubt they'll be troubling City by May. They will have a patch of hard games and reality will hit them. Their fickle fans will again turn on Arteta and start whining on Talksport.

I'm hoping Conte signs a new deal during the WC, would stop the uncertainty that the fans have around him staying or leaving.

However, A. Gold has reported that Tottenham have an option to extend his deal for another year if we wish too. Unless this season goes horribly wrong, which I don't believe it will, I expect Levy to extend his contract no matter what.

I'm not panicking because of these 2 lost, I think we'll bounce back. We have injuries to important players right now and I expect will be decently busy during January. I'm hoping for 2-3 signings in key positions, RWB, CB and CM. Obviously we need to upgrade in other positions as well, but I would go for those positions if the right player is available.

Our fans are like insecure men.
Imagine a bloke like that pulling a hot chick then dumping her because eventually she'll dump him.
Mate, get your fill first ffs.

A club that supposedly is or does challenge for top four, should not, be in the state it is over 2-3 players.
There was a lot of people during the summer, who thought out squad was good enough to now challenge this year.
Are those people, now saying that the squad isn't good enough?
This isn't just about an injury or two, this is players not performing, a manager who refuses to play a young RWB, despite the fact that the other two are gash.
And also yet again left short in the window, not for the first time, to even cope with a 2-3 player loss not good all round.

precedence isn't prejudice, it's an educated decision.

You're just moving the goalposts... The topic was talking about performance; not selection.

To pre-judge and view a performance through biased eyes......... If not prejudice; call it what you wish.

If someone slapped you in the face every time you went near them you'd probably stand far away as a precaution.

Cos I'm guilty once; that means I'm guilty any time I stand accused?

Hmmmm..... Not in my 'court', fella.

You need to remember where we were at the beginning of last season. I don't think that any " down to earth" fan actually thought we would be challenging for the tittle this season. I understand that some fans get excited because we were quite busy this off season but we are still a ways away, no matter what manager comes in.

I'm saying try and bring in 2-3 quality signings this January, keep building on what we started from last January and last summer, go into the next summer transfer window and hopefully have another decent window and than we'll see where we are at.

Conte keeps saying to be patient, and trust the process, so I'm going to trust that he wants to be part of this process and build a winning squad.

You're right Matt, time isn't always the answer. What I'm arguing here though is whether he deserves the time and patience. My personal opinion is that he does, as he's proven in a variety of leagues that he deserves his reputation as an elite manager. So if the goons can do it for an unproven "cone boy," shouldn't we be doing that for one of the World's best?

I've argued for a while that many in our squad weren't up to the level we all desire, from when Poch left, through Mourinho, then Nuno and now Conte.

The players aren't regressing, they're reverting back to their level, Conte elevated them last season, but they don't really have the ability to maintain that level, not to compete at the very top end anyway.

So time, patience and money is necessary.

As for the goons, like I said, I'm not convinced they will implode, something feels different this season, but I'll joyously eat a shitload of humble pie if I prove to be wrong.

Where their "fickle fans" are concerned though, where is the difference with the reaction from some in here at the first sign of adversity?

Problem is that we're (nearly) in a catch 22 situation.

Conte won't stay without backing, rightly.

The board can't back him until we know he's staying, also rightly.
