Today's Telegraph

Antonio Conte has warned that Tottenham Hotspur must keep spending big money to stand any chance of replacing Liverpool as Manchester City’s main challengers, and he urged the club to be honest over their ambitions.

With Tottenham planning to open talks over a new contract with head coach Conte this month, the Italian has praised Liverpool for backing Jurgen Klopp in the transfer market during his seven years at Anfield.

Third-placed Tottenham could move 13 points ahead of Liverpool by beating Klopp’s team tomorrow, but Conte believes the Anfield club are a good example for Spurs to follow if they want to try to challenge City.

“For sure, Klopp has changed Liverpool and the club gave him the possibility to invest because you can work as hard as you want, but, in the end, you need important players if you want to go to another level. Otherwise, you have to be honest and to tell that you have other ambitions, to grow young players and to wait.

“In the last five years, they were the big rivals for Manchester City. Otherwise, without Liverpool, I think maybe City could do in the same way like Juventus was in Italy. So, for this reason they have to be proud to reach this level and I think they improved a lot in these years during the transfer market with the big, big signings.”

Spurs spent more than £100 million during the summer, but Conte’s squad is already stretched, with Son Heung-min, who underwent surgery on his fractured cheekbone yesterday, Richarlison and Cristian Romero out through injury, and Dejan Kulusevski and Lucas Moura also not fully fit.

With Premier League leaders Woolwich and top-four rivals Newcastle United and Chelsea ready to spend in January, Conte is adamant Tottenham cannot stand still, but urged the club to be honest over the size of their ambition.

“To be honest with the fans, to be honest about the ambition, not to tell lies or to promise,” said Conte

Surely for the conte wants to play which is counter attacking then the best would be to inverse the halves. Go out in the first half the way we play generally play in the 2nd. Try to get a lead and then play the counter when the oppo press for a goal. However don’t be so passive in doin it.

Good stuff, keep it up Antonio put pressure on these fuckers.

This is what we tried under Jose and we’d constantly concede in the second half. Now we’re the ones scoring late in games.

Tried but failed miserably because under Jose we weren't anywhere as fit as we are under Conte.
I think that we were terrified of making forward runs under Jose.

bus-conductor bus-conductor and I had a discussion on a video where 4 or 5 of our players were static and PEH was doing his nut.

It led to us losing the ball and, possibly (??), conceding.

Maybe he can dig it out ?

We were also very unfit. I found his conditioning and coaching to both be appalling vs Poch. Dinosaur coach from a bygone era

Found the clip where absolutely no one makes a move, let alone a forward run ;
My thoughts on the above clip ;

My opinion is as follows:

This fella has used the same clip as JJ did during the game.
JJ also highlighted Aurier, Sonny, and Vinicious lack of movement also. All when PEH has the ball on the right.

Sonny runs away from the ball and makes no angle (@ 25 secs in)
Ndombele does the same, indeed he jogs past the ball, offering no help, and when it is played back he continues to jog forward ( @ 25 secs)
Ndomdele stands still "in the shadow" of one of their players (@ 37 secs)
Ndombele is also standing still and hiding (@ 1:10)

Whilst this IN NO WAY exonerates, or excuses, Sissoko, it does highlight the problems with out entire way of playing.
EVERY single player is walking around like it's a Sunday afternoon stroll in the park.

Surely if we are fitter now then we should be able to do it. We obvs have the energy to ramp it up in the 2nd half so and still have to chase around deep in the first half.

Wants the club to be honest over its ambitions...

“To be honest with the fans, to be honest about the ambition, not to tell lies or to promise. And this is the right way for every club. Because to tell good lies is not good. It’s better to be honest, to tell the truth, also if it’s a bad truth but to be honest. Because honesty will pay always, always.”

Can't say the clubs been very honest with the fans in the past...in fact, Conte's very appointment is evidence of that very fact. Can't wait to see how this is going to go.

I think he is rightly keeping pressure on the board not to rest on their laurels.
He is a clever man, surely doesn't trust the words of levy etc, only have to see and hear him, to see how untrustworthy he is.

Yeah, he was around when Poch was begging for more players and didn't get them. Good on him for not falling for it. And as things go, if it falls apart with Conte then 100% of the blame will be pointing at Levy...unless he attempts to curry favor with a Poch reappointment (which I hope doesn't happen for a number of reasons but saving Levy's ass is probably the biggest) to appease the masses.

Although the football, to date, has been dire to watch especially the first half bollocks.
But I would hope, that the club sticks with Conte, seeing as the options out there are few and far between.

Never wanted him and despise his football but ahve been preparing myself for another year of it because there are no clear alternatives. So, even if we're on a shitty ship it's still staying afloat and will eventually get us there or thereabouts.

But I do get tired of folks telling me I'm not seeing what my lying ass eyes are seeing every (mostly 1st halves of) game. It's wretched!!!!
