Manager Antonio Conte

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I assume you are talking about the rule change from 3 to 5 subs and totally agree. Going into this year, I expected earlier subs as you now get more. There’s less risk in early subs as you don’t have to worry about running out due to injuries. And earlier subs mean more intensity for shorter intervals.

But conte has had pretty much the exact same subbing pattern as last season. So he’s basically ignored the rule change instead of using it to his advantage.

I suppose why would you if your faith in plan A is utterly unshakeable.

(Can recall much frustration with Poch on a similar front, when we just spent a whole game 'knocking on the door' to no avail...... We did seem to have Plan B for when we played BVB, but would play that way against no-one else evaaar.)

I haven't seen anyone really make big changes in their substitution patters.

More commitment to getting your best bench option or two in on the stroke of the hour mark maybe, but nothing more avant garde than that.
Which is surprising. I expect a few years from now you might get specialized players that only play 45 minutes. A player like Traore that is solely in there to go balls to the wall and take on players and put pressure on the opposition but then is pulled at halftime.

Compare to baseball. Starters have to throw 5-7 innings and can’t throw as fast as relievers who put all their energy into that 1 inning. Relievers as a whole have always had lower runs allowed than starters because they are specialized for short stints… with the sub rule, we will see players more specialized in the future.

It could still all be a masterful game of poker which shakes ENIC to their very foundations (and kicking Levy's ass like the baying crowd believed they wanted) and propells us to the league next year.....

...But it's not, is it.

Either Conte's gone soft or he's just killing time here.
Passed caring what it is.

If he was using his leverage to get the club to invest that’s fine but don’t have a fucking wank about woolwich after sitting on your arse for 90min watching them batter us.
He’s meant to be a tough guy coach. All that fluff about “I prefer to kill them” when players don’t do what he wants..
Either wants Lloris to keep throwing games or he’s scared to do anything about it.

I don't know if Lloris is the best example for that. He's making mistakes for sure, but he's also the captain and our only option is Forster. It's much harder to justify dropping Lloris than his fixation on continually playing the same formation that isn't work, and his regular playing of Emerson, Sessegnon, and Son.

My prediction is he goes in the summer to Juventus or someone. I can only see him staying with a big Qatar buy in and promise to spend big.

He’s dropped Emerson.

Not sure I agree the formation lost that game.

Lloris needs be dropped for the rest of the season. He is costing us goals almost every game. Club legend, great example of how to be a pro with class. But it’s a performance and results business.

The brilliance of Son and Kane over the last 4-5 years have masked our extreme deficiencies as a team.

Now that Son's form is in free fall and not remotely the same player he was, we're seeing us play a brand of football that's nowhere near good enough.

We've said time and time again, you take Son and Kane out of the team and we're a mid table team. Well, one of the two players has gone missing this season and we look like a top 6 team even with Chelsea and Liverpool playing some of their worst football in recent moment AND even after we spent all that money.

It's never been about the manager. It's never been about tactics. It's always been about our bang average players and how piss poor our recruitment has been.
Exactly

This team is fucking garbage and the so arrogant Spurs fans will find out the hard way that they won’t suddenly play great football once Conte leaves.

He only recently dropped Emerson and will still readily utilize him as a sub before Spence.

As for the formation, I do think it was a major factor against woolwich but also for the past few months as well. Our midfield is continually overrun and under pressure and not just against the big six clubs, we've been overrun by mid to bottom table clubs as well.

I agree that he's a liability but I'm not thrilled with the prospect of Forster for the rest of the season either.

I don’t think he’ll do well in Italy, Spallettis changing the game in Serie A. His tactics might be outdated for the Italian game as well.

I understand the frustration with Conte at times but to think that he's the issue and needs to go is just ridiculous. You take out Kane and Son and we finish 8th-12th in the league every year over the last 5 seasons.

We BARELY managed to finish 4th with Son and Kane playing their best football in the 2nd half of last season. And we had the boost from Romero, Kulu and Bentancur. That's how far we are from competing for a trophy.

The issue with keeping him here until the summer is that it won’t provide the new manager with the time to go through our squad and decide who is and isn’t shit. So a lot of the deadwood will end up getting a chance for us next season.

It’s pretty clear that he needs to move on. He’s proven that he’s not able to effectively work with the players that he’s got at his disposal. It’s unlikely Levy will give a manager who won’t commit the required resources. So just get rid now, bring someone in that promotes attacking football, give them the rest of the season to get a tune out of the squad then back them in the summer.

I imagine it’ll be Poch. He has his flaws but the football will look a hell of a lot better on the eye. High tempo, pressing football beats whatever the fuck Conte has us playing at the moment.

Probably.

I mean, who else is there?

Surely we won’t take another ex-Chav in Tuchel? Enrique maybe?

Tuchel won’t work here, he’d want backing, probably Enrique as well. Poch might work but Kane would be gone next season. We’d need at least 4 players as Lloris, Kane, Son, Dier etc would mostly likely be out or sold.

New GK
RB Romero CB LB
Sarr Bentancur
Kulusevski AM Gil
Richarlison

Perhaps simplistic, but.......

Last Nov: "You know what; I'll give this 'project' stuff a whirl afterall(*) and see how I get on...."
Currently: "Nah, not for me actually...."

(*Just waxing, but he's always speaking in such terms.............. Otherwise, why not just unleash the hounds and publicly call the board out like Rafa Binitez does or like he himself has done in the past?)

Yeah I really don't see the point in keeping him here. The board don't seem to be interested in doubling down and backing him during this bad run of form, he doesn't seem interested in staying here, and the most obvious replacement is available. Barring a miracle we won't be turning this season around and are staring at Europa League at best, might as well get Poch in before the end of January so we can sign a couple of players and give him half of a season to work with the squad.
