Did Conte want Lenglet more than Bastoni? Or did he want him when he realized that was the best available? If Lenglet was top of Conte's list then it's on Conte. I don't think he was for a minute, neither of us know for sure.
Yes he did, but we've already covered this, we weren't discussing whether Lenglet was on the top of his list - we were discussing whether he wanted Lenglet or not and whether Conte was involved in transfers, you asked for some sort of tangible evidence straight from the horses mouth no less and I've given it to you.
He has input but as we saw he got some of those he was happy with and some ihe wasn't. That doesn't make sense to me at all - you don't bring in a Conte and give him players he doesn't want - he's a winner, do it quickly, compete with the best type manager. He hasn't got enough to do that, hence his frustration. Hence why he only signed for 18 months because a) the club allowed him to out of desperation and b) he wanted to make sure Levy wasn't gonna stiff him as he has every other manager. Turns out Conte was right and he's not sticking around for more of the same. Can't say I blame him.
So now you're admitting that he does have an input, you're contradicting yourself here - this completely changes the narrative of your argument - so if he does have input then he ought to admit that he is as culpable as Paratici then.
Sorry but winners like Klopp and Pep don't always get the players they want, big frigging deal. Klopp didn't want Salah and the club bought him in, Pep wanted Kane, Van Dijk and Maguire and the club didn't bring them in, elite managers make the best out of situations and still go some way to earn the trust of their respective boards.
And I'd argue that signing 10 players in 1 Summer and 2 Jan windows is a quick turnaround relative to our current situation - sorry but it's just not realistic to think that we can sign 15 players in 3 windows whilst having so many outgoing players still on our books as well.
He signed for 18 months yet went on record saying that it will take another 3-4 windows for the club to compete when the Summer window closed, so he knew what he was up against, my question is why doesn't he have the courage of convictions to stick it out in which he implied with that statement?
Doesn't seem Conte wanted Dan so there's a massive disconnect somewhere in the club.
Totally disagree on training, you show your ability to absorb ideas, compete with team mates, work hard, follow instructions and make the manager sit up and take notice of your skill, ability, mentality and workrate.
Spence didn't play because he had two others in front of him and Conte didn't want him. Simples.
Dude you said 'Conte saw Spence every day (in training), that's his chance' - that's not how you get chances in football and besides why didn't he get any mins in the cup matches?
I don't think it was down to ability why Spence didn't play, I think Conte was sending out a message to the board, if it was purely down to ability then you have to question why some of the other players get into the team.
Per isn't a great defender agreed, maybe it was a season too far for him, especially in the Prem. It made sense because he'd won a title playing him there, he is an experienced player of excellent attacking quality. Spence is not.
That's a massive understatement!
Perisic can't defend so if you're using him as example of a player who Conte who is a pragmatist then why is he playing Perisic week in week out? That doesn't make any sense - Also I'd love to know what 'excellent attacking quality' we've seen from him this season?
Son hasn't done it much every season, his main ability is his finishing off both feet and his pace, he's never held it up well, pressed well, won headers much or fancied the physical side. He could've played Richy more I agree but I understand why Son got game time due to his finishing ability which is exceptional.
His finishing ability is great but a lot of his moves are breaking down with him and his ball retention is poor, Conte has been playing Son as an inside 10 when his best position has historically been a winger or a forward. We have players who are better at playing in tight spaces and have better ball retention he has refused to use.
Already answered the 18 month question. More moot is why did Levy agree to it? He's the chairman of Spurs, not Conte. We know why, because he'd fucked himself with Jose and Nuno. We were 9th. Crowds were starting to get smaller, it was hopeless. Conte is surely a net positive following that with 4th twice?
Yeah but we're going round in circles, they are both as culpable as the other for Levy handing out the contract and for Conte to accept it. Levy did indeed fuck himself and used Conte to get the fans off his back and buy time but Conte accepting the contract and a luxurious one at that means you have a job to do at the end of the day, we can't be absolving the managers of blame just because we don't like the chairman.
He was a net positive last season but he's a net negative this season.
You would've ensured nothing. Honestly, if Poch, Jose and Conte can get stiffed by Levy you think you'd get what you wanted?! Now who's being arrogant. And forgive me (and I mean this sincerely) if I ignore your tactical formation tweaks as just a fan on a forum with no experience at this level talking about things he knows little about compared to managers.
Well you asked me a question and I told you how I would have dealt with it.
Levy spent £192m on Conte, got him a DOF he already worked with, moved a load of players out the door for him as well, I'm pretty sure he'd push the boat out for another CB if he really needed one.
You really think managers can't be questioned at all because I have no experience at managing fine? So why are you questioning Daniel Levy because you as far as I know you have no experience running a football club...we can both play this game.
I dunno what's happened but I do know we'd wasted £250m before either Conte or Para turned up. Maybe if we hadn't we wouldn't need so many players now.
Yeah the recruitment has been bad I know but doesn't that just say to you that things would have never been fixed in 18 months regardless so that is something Conte should have understood when he took the job.
The style hasn't changed, the implementation of it has deteriorated though. More players out of form, more injuries to key players, Conte's problems with health etc. Maybe even the fact he's out of contract come season end. But that's on our chairman.
Well actually no it's not, the club have offered him a new contract and he's refused to sit down and talk so that's on him.
It's been an interesting discussion and I thank you for it, you've made some very good points, but I have to come away from it now as it's taking up a lot of time and I've got a lot of other shit I need to focus on.
Yeah fair play, good discussion, once again I am not absolving the board of blame one bit but I'm just not having the fact that Conte who is such a well paid and experienced manager should just get off scott free.
