Reasonable people can disagree on the long-term value of inviting Hurricane Conte into your football club, but half-assedly committing to his vision was a fatally flawed plan from the beginning.

Meh..... He had a fair chunk of dosh/players to get up and running. If he'd have sign a new contract there'd have been more.... Instead all we got is a plea for patience and future trf windows that he didn't allow to come to fruition.
It was ultimately a marriage that neither party really wanted.
Maybe the club should have realised they were dealing with Bride-Zilla, but I'd say we wanted it (him)......
We proposed twice, gave him an expensive ring (wages) and spent a significant amount of money on players.
People are underestimating Conte ridiculously in my honest opinion.
Our squad is absolutely horrendous and he somehow found a way to get us to finish 4th and we were also 4th when he left. I can not emphasise how absolutely poor our GK/defence is (imo it is the worst in the league) and he still found a way to get us to compete.
Yes his stubbornness is infuriating but I now understand why he did what he did.

2 things can be true though
He done well to get top 4 last season with a worse squad but ultimately failed this season with a better squad.
He left with us 4th and I wouldn't be at all surprised if he had somehow found a way to sneak us into the top 4 again tbh.
It's not really narratively satisfying, but I ultimately feel like the triple whammy of Gian Piero Ventrone's death during the season, the World Cup, and then Conte's surgery added up to us not having the benefit of his signature force of personality this season.
It's been a properly weird year.
Inclusive of Conte's final game which induced his rant, we've shipped 23 goals in our last 10 games.
False position, we played 2 games more than everyone else and we were playing shit - He was in charge of the Leicester match when we lost 4-1, Leicester City.
Absolutely no way he would have got us 4th especially when Bentancur got injured, wouldn't surprise me if he decided to call to mentally check out when that happened.
You can't say "absolutely no way" with any actual real conviction as it's an opinion.
Personally speaking I think we would have had around 10 more points minimum had he stayed.

Out of curiosity, is your take that he should have been allowed to stay even after his rant?
Every word he said was the truth, period, but he had a very upset dressing room he'd have been stepping back into.
Utd. & NC both have 12 more points, potentially 18 by season's end.
