Agreed. It's exactly that.

You want to give both 2 or 3 years, playing intermittently and then you can see if they will make it, as in become those established srarters.

Under the current model it's too much being asked too soon.

Young players need time, playing under this manager doesn't help, but - take out the goal he nodded in the other week - as a midfielder so far he has basically contributed nothing. Any results or change in score-line when he has/hasn't been on the pitch are pure coincidence. He is out there (even then going unseen for large parts of the game) but fulfilling no remit.

Bentancur gets some deserved stick, and he has clearly regressed post-injuries, but this all reminds me of the Hojbjerg/Skipp stuff from a few years back - he was another flawed player who got flak, but when paired together ever single metric was still superior to young darling Oliver.

Gray did still cost a tidy sum, 2020's prices, premium on potential, and whatever. Does need to start showing what his USPs are.
 
he has scored 1 goal in 113 games how does that make him an attacking midfielder, when played at CH last season he did OK,not great but Ok, so maybe Mr Frank he is suited to a defensive position,
 
I thought he was alright, but his overall playing style seems a bit redundant next to Palhinha. I don't think playing as a double pivot 6-6 type is doing him many favors. A better coach I think will help him to open up his passing game, which he will need to do if he is going to be a successful prem CM. He has nice bits of skill here and there to retain possession though that tell me there is more to him than just what we see of him in Franks ultra safe side.

Running is definitely not something he’s lacking. Hes also the perfect foil for Palinha going HULK SMASH because he’s disciplined and mature enough to stay calm and cover where nobody is looking because Palinha is possessed

Did you just call his performance in the second half "excellent"?????????

Yes I agree he can run but the problem is he's chasing shadows. He's not effecting the game and he's a few yards behind play near enough all the time. He's also very very very very poor in picking his positions and anticipating where the ball may end up.

i think hes a box to box player, hes not good enough defensively to play deep. id have him and bergvall going box to box with pal screening. ideally you want better players than bergvall and gray, they are kids that should be coming on for the last half hour in games, not starting at 19. but right now i think that's what the pair of them are, they are box to boxers.

Even in that role- a box to box CM that can also play CB, and English, Archie Gray will be very valuable to our side. I'm sure he'll be good in the CDM role eventually. It's up to Spurs to develop him as a CM though, and so far they've not done well in that effort.

Fair enough, excellent was too far. Palinha and Simons were the only two worth that word.

He was decent and disciplined. Won the ball high, moved it on or carried it. Covered deep into our box for other players who’d gone off on one.

Conpletely agree.

That’s a problem in midfield and attack. A lot of players who could be great in 3 years, being asked to carry a team now.

At least they’re getting minutes I guess.

yea i agree. not sure of many midfielders that have gone straight into the ball playing CDM role, its something that midfielders end up in as their legs wane and they acquire wisdom from top level football. its the most important position in modern football, he looks like hell end up there to me, but not now.
