Player Archie Gray

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

He showed last year that he could be a very good ball playing centre back. There aren’t that many with his quality on the ball.

In midfield or RB, he’ll be decent but there are loads of players who are decent.

His best chance of a strong career is at Centre Back.
Don’t see it tbh. His positioning was awful at CB. Played players on side and just lacks pace and strength.got bullied. I like the kids attitude but honestly, he needs to improve a fair bit to nail down any position.

£40 million spunked on this kid and looks no better than something out of the academy.

Lange masterclass.

I think he will grow into a good player but once again we have bought him just like many other young players and totally mis-profiled him and haven't really had a plan for him so he could improve.

The fact that he's filed in at CB, RB, RWB, DMF when the lad is an 8 is terrible management and squad planning once again.

in games where you agreed he effected the game

Now we lose a NLD where plenty played worse and you’re moving the goal posts to get back to you’re position…

Rinse and repeat
Mate you ok ?

I said he played well at RB against city second half, well against Newcastle at RB and well in a Champions league (forgot which one).

I haven't even commented about his overall performance yesterday which was awful but it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things because my point was that he's not been good at all playing CM.

I love this kid and love his attitude. I firmly believe he will become a top player and a future Spurs captain. I loved how he kicked the ball into the away end after we scored and then proceeded to square up to Gabriel and 3 other Woolwich players. All on his own while the rest of our team were off celebrating. This kid is exactly the type of character we need. I just love him.

Sad to see fans on here already writing him off. This is a 19 year old who has been almost fed to the wolves since we signed him. We signed him as an 18 year old who was to be an understudy in midfield and probably get minutes in cup games only. The idea was that he'd be used only as a centre mid and be given the opportunity to learn from better players! However, we had a crazy injury crisis and this kid at 18 was thrown into a makeshift defence for 4 months (playing in every position across the back 4) that was playing a high line and getting battered most games. Archie was arguably our best player during this period and the calmest presence we had in what was a chaotic defence.

Our midfield has been a mess this season. We've not been able to settle on a midfield once. Bentancur, Bissouma, Gallagher, Sarr and Palhinha are all different players and Gray is partnering with a different one every week. There is no consistency and nothing steady about our midfield. Its a total mess and we are expecting a 19 year old to fix everything? Its a total mess. Simons doesn't look physical enough to play in a midfield 3, Gallagher, Sarr and Palhinha can't hold their position so Gray is constantly exposed. His most suitable midfield parters are Bentancur, Bissouma or Bergval. 2 of these are injured and Bissouma is totally unreliable. How can Archie Gray look good in this team?

This club is so toxic right now. I hate most people at the club. I despise alot of our players. I've lost patience with so many things going on at the club. BUT NOT ARCHIE GRAY! I love everything about this kid and I hope we build our future around him. Once we get a stable midfield, this kid is going to cook. Please show patience. He's only 19 and his attitude is elite. He's the one shining light for me in this whole mess. I'm hoping the likes of him, Bergvall and Moore can all take a step up next year and make us proud to support spurs again. Its young players like them with the right attitude that give me hope. Not these new signings who come and go and don't care.

Of course, this is all on the assumption that we're going to be in the Premier League next season. If we're relegated, we can pretty much say goodbye to every first team player currently on our books.

Gray is a player who might still be here because he still hasn't quite made the grade yet and a season in the Championship might do him some good. Same goes for players like Dane Scarlett, Mikey Moore etc. The fact that Bergvall, Gray, Spence and Udogie aren't on mega wages means the club might just be able to afford to keep them. These are players who could really shine in the Championship and would give us a much better chance of coming straight back up.

The established players like Solanke, Kudus, Simons, Romero, Vicario, Van de Ven, Bentancur and Porro will be gone. The first thing we should look for in the transfer market should be another goalkeeper as Kinsky and Austin won't be good enough for 1st choice (even for the Championship).

I'd also be inclined to extend Ben Davies's contract again and make him captain.

I dont believe that Souza at LWB could give you less than Gray at RWB.

Just play players in their natural positions ffs.

Palhinha sitting with Gray and Gallagher as up and down 8's if we want to stodge things up or swap out one of them for Xavi for more creativity.

These are the players you need in a relegation dogfight. Not the likes of Bissouma and Sarr.

It's criminal mismanagement that we are currently stuck with Bissouma in midfield

We have a lot of players that no PL team will want.
Gray. Solanke. Odobert.Tel - can't see many queuing up to pay anything for them. And to pay their wages.

Lange bought young players when the foundation wasnt there to start, and including the injury crisis, players like Gray are going to perform inconsistently.

Gray was also brilliant against City in the second half, that we shouldnt forget.

Foundation means the overall squad are consistently reliable, so who in the squad is reliable? None.

Gray has played over a hundred games of senior football, but he is still 19. Expecting him to perform consistently as just currently an average to below average PL footballer, and who may improve in the future is asking for way too much.

Not his fault as he's a talented teenager but he symbolises everything wrong with Lange's recruitment.

Overpaying for a player solely based on future potential when the squad is desperately lacking in first team quality.

For that kind of money we needed him to hit the ground running and be a solid PL player almost right off the bat. As it is, he's serviceable and shows loads of potential, but every team in the entire league has better options at RB and 8 than Gray. He's still just a prospect and a few years off being the finished article.

Tel was exactly the same. Just not good enough for that kind of outlay. Bought in the vain hope he'll will be good in 2-3 years with no consideration to the short-term needs of the squad when we've just sold our 2 best players in a generation.

Should've stuck to the cheap youth punts like Bergvall and Vuskovic while spending big on proven quality. Spending big on teenage potential was too risky given our squad needs.

Its shambolic squad building.

Why are we acting like a Brighton and Brentford in recruitment? Lange did shit at Villa so why did they decide he was the best DOF for us? When the standards lower, you get a Lange.

One of the biggest frauds in football. In fact, we neglect our academy too much. There is a player in Gray, but as you said hes for the long term, not short term.

Yeah, there's clearly been a big shift in the top PL clubs towards buying much younger. Chelsea are obviously the extreme example and we're basically doing a watered down version of their model.

Thing is, Chelsea spent 1 billion quid and played the numbers game. If you do that you're almost guaranteed to land a few superstars and they managed it with Palmer, Caiceido and Estevao. Without Palmer breaking through they may well have ended up in a similar spot to us as their form under Lampard as interim and Poch's first 6 months was bottom half.

Overall in terms of talent we've done pretty well too as Vuskovic and Bergvall look like they could be genuine stars, but we've not invested enough money to prevent the entire team tanking. Chelsea had a massive wobble and because we've done an cheap version of them, our wobble has been three times worse.

I guess we've also spent money on established players like Solanke, Kudus, Xavi and Gallagher, but even then the profiling has often been iffy and there's a serious lack of cohesion in the squad building - that's the stuff that Brighton and Brentford are incredible at. Every signing as a path to minutes and is designed to suit their house style.

Lange is a fraud and if he get relegated he deserves a massive share of the blame.
